tagCare lets you to maintain all your tags jointly in one place, which is especially useful if you normally use several of these different platforms. Many users apply a variety of different tags within different platforms - and finally get lost among them. For example, it is hard to keep track of consistent spelling variants (e.g. not using "science_fiction" in one case and "scienceFiction" in the other) or of preferred terms (e.g. not using "bike" in one case and "bicycle" in the other). Some documents may be tagged with the general term "dog", others more specifically with "greyhound" or "border_collie". tagCare will help you to apply some structure to your tagging vocabulary so that you will more easily navigate through vocabulary choices and use tags more consistently. In tagCare, a user can assemble all tags which he has used within different systems and may then create his own vocabulary hierarchy, synonym collections and cross-references to related terms to establish some lightweight form of controlled vocabulary. This process is also called "tag gardening". Edited and structured tags will then be used to browse document collections in other platforms and to directly tag documents out of tagCare. tagCare is still under development, a first demo version will be available soon and more features will then be added step by step. tagCare will first support Flickr, Bibsonomy and del.icio.us.

The primary success criteria for the next two days will be the publication of new vocabularies on the Web that increase the availability of Linked Data. That's the main goal, but there are many others. I am confident that this first VoCamp will be an opportunity to share issues, expertise, modeling techniques and design patterns. In doing so we will all become smarter. There is an opportunity to scope requirements in the wider Semantic Web field that impact upon the availability and reuse of vocabularies. Collectively we can identify missing pieces of the technical infrastructure required by the Web of Data, and begin to build a social infrastructure that helps us collectively ease the vocabulary bottleneck.

AGROVOC is a multilingual, structured and controlled vocabulary designed to cover the terminology of all subject fields in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, food and related domains (e.g. environment).

VoCamp is a series (hopefully) of informal events where people can spend some dedicated time creating lightweight vocabularies/ontologies for the Semantic Web/Web of Data. The emphasis of the event(s) is not on creating the perfect ontology in a particular domain, but on creating vocabs that are good enough for people to start using for publishing data on the Web. The intention is to follow a "paper first, laptops second" format, where the modelling is done initially on paper and only later committed to code. The VoCamp idea is heavily influenced by BarCamp, although the VoCamp should only have presentations where strictly necessary.

The primary issue I set out to discuss was the state of RDF vocabularies for microformats. Why is this important? A growing number of tools exist that convert microformats into RDF but in case everyone chooses different representations it will be significantly more difficult to interoperate. So in a small group we set out to document what we believe are the best practice mappings from microformats to RDF.

OpenVocab is ideal for properties and classes that don't warrant the effort of creating or maintaining a full schema. OpenVocab allows anyone to create and modify vocabulary terms using their web browser. Each term is described using appropriate elements of RDF, RDFS and OWL. OpenVocab allows you to create any properties and classes; assign labels, comments and descriptions; declare domains and ranges and much more.

Andreas Hotho's talk more specifically addressed the search for methods to identify tags which describe the same concept (or a more specific / a more general concept respectively) within a folksonomy. He suggested two approaches: 1. Applying measures directly to folksonomy statistics, allowing to describe tags as a vector; e.g. co-occurrence frequency and FolkRank could serve as a similarity measure (with these two having a tendency towards high-frequency tags) or a cosine method (which is more likely to produce "siblings") 2. Looking up tags in an external thesaurus/vocabulary (for instance achieving semantic grounding by mapping a tag and its most similar tags with Wordnet Synsets)

Eurovoc is a multilingual thesaurus covering the fields in which the European Communities are active; it provides a means of indexing the documents in the documentation systems of the European institutions and of their users. The European Parliament, the Office for Official Publications of the European Communities, the national and regional parliaments in Europe, some national government departments and European organisations are currently using this controlled vocabulary.

This poster presents ongoing efforts to enrich the RDF-based semantic Web with the tools of the Historical Event Markup and Linking Project (Heml). An experimental RDF vocabulary for Heml data is illustrated, as well as its use in storing and querying encoded historical events. Finally, the practical use of Heml-RDF is illustrated with a toolkit for the Piggy Bank semantic browser plugin.

Faviki is a social bookmarking tool that allows users to annotate the contents of web pages by Wikipedia concepts. Using Wikipedia as a source of a universal controlled vocabulary, it provides so-called 'semantic tags' which are standardized and computer-interpretable. In this way, Faviki is able to solve some common problems related to classic 'folksonomy' tags, in particular: polysemy, synonymy, different lexical forms, and lack of a commonly agreed meaning of terms. In a wider perspective, Faviki aims to speed up the transition from Web 2.0 to the Semantic Web.

Yahoo! GeoPlanet helps bridge the gap between the real and virtual worlds by providing an open, permanent, and intelligent infrastructure for geo-referencing data on the Internet. In practical terms, Yahoo! GeoPlanet is a resource for managing all geo-permanent named places on Earth. It provides the geographic developer community with the vocabulary and grammar to describe the world's geography in an unequivocal, permanent, and language-neutral manner. Developers can geo-enable their applications by using GeoPlanet to traverse the global spatial hierarchy, identify the geography relevant to their users and their businesses, and in turn, unambiguously geotag, geotarget, and geolocate data across the Web.

Natural languages are easy to learn by infants, they can express any thought that any adult might ever conceive, and they accommodate the limitations of human breathing rates and short-term memory. The first property implies a finite vocabulary, the second implies infinite extensibility, and the third implies a small upper bound on the length of phrases. Together, they imply that most words in a natural language will have an open-ended number of senses - ambiguity is inevitable.To achieve a comparable level of flexibility with formal ontologies, this paper proposes an organization with a dynamically evolving collection of formal theories, systematic mappings to formal concept types and informal lexicons of natural language terms, and a modularity that allows independent distributed development and extension of all resources, formal and informal.

AceWiki is a semantic wiki that is powerful and at the same time easy to use. Making use of the controlled natural language ACE, the formal statements of the wiki are shown in a way that looks like natural English. In order to help the users to write correct ACE sentences, AceWiki provides a predictive authoring tool.

Crosswalks are documents that map metadata elements between different metadata standards. The crosswalk may be presented as a document for humans to read, in which case the crosswalking process must be performed by humans who are referencing the document. Alternatively, a crosswalk document may be expressed in such a way that a computer can automatically perform a mapping from one metadata standard to another.
