Interactive website to help develop kids in the subject of astronomy.

This website has several information about the solar system and space. It could be useful to both the teacher and students. For teachers, it has a lot of useful information to use while planning/presenting a lesson. For the students there are several different links to play game and learn about the solar system and space.

This is a downloadable app that provides an interactive, virtual dissection. Not only can students virtually dissect a frog, but they can also learn about the habitat of frogs, the different types, take a quiz, and compare frogs to humans. They will also be taught about the different tools that are used for dissecting and when it is appropriate to use each tool. This app can be used in the classroom in order to dissect frogs without the mess and smell, but still allow the students to learn the necessary information.

Kids can learn about planets, stars, and constellations. The app is informational and interactive and completely kid friendly with engaging graphics and colors. I love that this app speaks to the operator and helps to verbally label items, so that children will know how to pronounce a name. The most incredible part of this app, in my opinion, is that it is available in ten different languages. I know that if I had a non-English-speaking student in my class, I would be thankful to have an app that offered a comfortable language for that student. Throught the vitotechnology link, one can access the app's manual to better understand its features and how to operate it. This app does cost $2.99, but I believe that is a small price to pay for such a wonderful app. The following is a YouTube link to a review video that goes through some of the app's functions. Electricity -- we depend on it every minute of every day. And yet to many of us, electricity seems a mysterious and even magical force. Before Ben Franklin did his famous and very dangerous kite flying experiment, electricity was thought to be a type of fire. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I think this is an excellent lesson to teach to grades 3-6. I am pleased with this lesson that it lists the lesson sequence, materials needed, and the objectives. I really like the variety that this lesson includes. It allows students to get up and move in acting out an electric circuit as well as get up close and personal with electricity and how it works with the activity. Not only does this lesson involve interactive components for students, it also provides many videos that correlate with the lesson. This lesson plan seems easy to follow with the instructional sequence and I think it would be easy to fit within the McKendree lesson plan template and add a bit of flair from the teacher candidate. I think this lesson also allows teachers to impose his or her own spin on the lesson and choose what parts to include or omit as well as what might need to be added to the lesson. A lesson like this with so much instructional variety helps to reach students that learn from hands-on activities, students who learn more visually, as well as students who learn best from discussion and instruction. I would follow the instructional sequence if I were to use this lesson in the classroom, but I would tailor it to fit my time allotment for teaching Science, thus it would be done in smaller segments. I would choose one or two videos to share with the class, but post the rest on our class website so the children could view them if the wanted to.

After learning about Pangea and the different continents, this activity can help the students review and determine where the different continents once were. Using the computers to enhance learning is what this generation needs in order to remain stimulated.

Go on an exploration of what we're made of and how we work with this Human Body app, from Tinybop. This app will help students explore the body. I think that using this app in the classroom students will get a better understanding of the human body then just a picture. They will have an interactive experience of exploring the human body. It also shows what different aspects of your body can do, such as seeing sound waves with the ear. I think that the new technology will help students learn more efficiently.

This interactive activity assist students in understanding the main parts of the plant cell. The students have to assist the conductor by getting the train to the right part of the plant cell, which provides memorization and practice skills for the student. This resource is valuable because it provides a lesson about the plant cell and how the plant cell parts work and what they are. I see my students using this resource as a fun way to study for their assessment, it's a wonderful memorization material.

This site is an interactive lab teaching about volcanoes. The students need to have a variety of outlets for learning. This is a all computer based lesson to give them a new way to learn instead of just listening to me. I would instruct them at first, but then I would let them explore this lab.

InnerBody.com is a free virtual human anatomy website with detailed models of all human body systems. The Internet's best anatomy learning resource! This resource lets student interact with the human body in the different sunbject matter such as, muscular system, skeletal system, circulatory system and many more areas within the human body. This activity allows students to click on certain areas with the human body and the website increases that part of the human body in order to let the students explore and learn. I believe that this activity can help students study for their assessment as well as assist them within their memorization skills.

This is a comprehensive lesson plan that provides many options for the introduction and activities as well as reinforcement. This lesson also provides external interactive resources. I think this is a wonderful lesson for developing a unit.

This is the webpage for Mrs. Sharp's 4th Grade classroom at Friendsville Elementary School. This activity is similar to a field trip because the students get to leave the classroom and investigate, but they do not actually leave the school grounds. The students get to go outside and walk around their school to find signs of erosion. They will keep a notebook with them to record their findings. I chose this activity because it is a fun interactive way for students to learn. They get to get out of their seats and learn through a hands on activity. I would use this activity to wrap up the erosion unit and to show students that erosion is everywhere. We would end the activity by coming back into the classroom and discussing the findings.

This site has a ton of neat ideas about space, the sun, earth, the complete solar system, technology used, and a site for parents and teachers. This is a site that kids could get on in the classroom during free time because it is kid friendly and would keep their attention. The different activities are labeled by "Explore" which contains facts, videos, and pictures, "Do" which has activities, books, and coloring pages, and "Play" that has a vast amount of games, puzzles, and quizzes all revolving around space. I think that students would stay engaged with this site and want to keep playing. Not only would they be playing games, but also learning about space

This is a great website that has tons of free lesson plans, videos, and quizzes. It covers a wide range of topics including, life science, physical science, the human body, and space. It includes content for grades K-12. It even includes interactive diagrams for students to complete. I think this resource could be used in the classroom in multiple ways. The activities could be used for instruction or reinforcement.

Very easy to search, by grade level or content area. The lessons I found were good foundations for particular content, but needed some sparking up, especially in terms of an engaging introduction.

This lesson is used to teach young students the importance of nature. Many students don't realize many manufactured items come from nature. Bring in everyday items from home and ask the children where they think the item came from (paper and books from trees, glass from sand, etc). Have different colored dots and walk around the classroom and label items with colors from what the item might have came from (green=trees, red=animals), this requires the students to think critically. It's important for children to respect nature and understand most everything we interact with on a daily basis is from nature. As a teacher I can use this to teach children respect of nature and each other because everything must work together.

This is a website to show children ways that they can help the earth by recycling. There are 5 main ways that are offered, and clicking on "Kids for Saving Earth" takes you to another website. This is interactive and very child friendly. I think both of these are good and helpful for both the teacher and the student.

The five ways aren't really so much all about recycling as different ways of conserving materials. For example, using cloth napkins doesn't result in recycling, but in reducing what is consumed. I see this as more of a resource for adults or older children than a website for kids. The "Kids for Saving Earth" is a bit more kid-friendly.

This is a 23 minute video by Bill Nye about the Earth's crust and the different features on it, mainly volcanoes. This is a fun and interactive video and I would use it in my future classroom because the students are entertained while learning!

This would be a great experience to go along with a biology lesson about reptiles. The Tye-Dyed Iguana provides an interactive reptile experience that is age specific and hands-on demonstration. What is even more convenient is that they will travel to your school! I have seen kids participate and I can vouch that they LOVE it. Students not only learn about the features and specifics of reptiles but get to hold them and touch them as well.

This application is available on iPad and is a great exploration tool for students. The app is like an interactive book that will allow students to gain a more concrete idea of what the solar system looks like, rather than just reading it. Included on the app is a 3D view of the planets along with detailed information and facts about them. I would use the app on an iPad during centers while learning about the solar system in class. It would also be a great way to show the students what the structure of the solar system is instead of simply reading about it. Not only do students get the option to read interesting facts on this app, but there are many pictures included to show different astronomical features. Anything related to technology seems to interest students, especially when they get to be the driver.

This website can be used for children K-5. It is very interactive, and gives a lot of information about the solar system, different planets, etc. It is very kid-friendly in that aspect. I can definitely see myself using this website for students in my future classroom! I like how it includes a YouTube video on the main page. I would use this as an introduction to the lesson, or something similar to get my students engaged and ready to learn about astronomy! The best part of all is that this website is FREE!
