Dysphagia - 1 views

  •
Thought this might be helpful this next week in studying for the test. This topic alarms me in a way, because it is so important we are competent in this area. We need to research as much as we can about it. This article goes into detail the characteristics of dysphagia and how to approach treatment. One interesting fact in the article is that polypharmacy is related to it.

AOTA Student Centennial Commitment - 0 views

I know this does not have to do with anything we covered in Phys Dys. But I just wanted to make sure that everyone is aware of the advantages of joining AOTA. I think it is important for each of us to take part in this. I have had many tell me that our "fire" will die after a few years in the field, and being members of organizations will not be as important to us as it was as students. I want to challenge all of us, including myself, to break that stigma and make a difference. It has been an honor to be in class with all of you over the past three semesters, and you all have pushed me to become a better student and person. I feel we have a strong class, and all of you are very talented. Hopefully we will all stay in contact over the years, and who knows maybe even plan some reunions at the state/national conferences. I waited to post this until our assignment was almost over so I would not take up the feed. Take a second to make this commitment if you are a memeber, and if not think about joining. Thanks!

Equipment Designed for Occupational Therapy - 0 views

  •
I thought this article was very easy to read and informative at the same time. I liked the fact it was from the first Eleanor Clarke Slalge lecture. It tells about three different pieces of equipment: Tilt Table, Standing Table, and Bilateral Tilt Tables that encourage correct positions and body mechanics.

Occupational Therapy Services in Facilitating Work Performance - 0 views

  •
This is a article out of AJOT. It is about OT in the and how we can help people reach maximum potential in work environments. It goes through and gives examples of how this can be done. Best of all it is what we just covered today. I think it is very important we understand our role in this area. It is actually something I did not really think about until Teri explained it so well today. Also, everyone was very engaged in the the discussion and it makes it so easy to learn that way. Thanks.

Tendon Tip Sheet - 3 views

  •
I found this on the AOTA's website and it is a tendon tip sheet. It tells exactly what a tendon injury is and also what OT implements with this form or injury. It is a short, but informative page on this topic. I thought it would be beneficial to print out as a source to keep to look back on.

The Role of OT in Oncology - 1 views

  •
This is an AOTA article on oncology and how OT impact it in every way. It also explains the ways we would treat, and also settings too. I love how the article is focused on OT. It is very important to understand that we may be treating individuals who are on all different levels, including newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, receiving hospice or palliative care, or who are in the survivorship phase of care.

OT's Role in Home Modifictions - 2 views

  •
This is a video on Home Modifications and how OT comes into play in this process. It is a great video and really awesome concept of explaining OT and how important it is to people as they age and need their home modified. It really uses the terminology that we have been learning over the past semesters and I will be using this link again in the future.

The Role of Occupational Therapy for Rehabilitation of the Upper Extremity - 2 views

  •
I thought this article went good with the topics we have been covering. All of the articles I found previous to this one were very long to read. I like this one because it is short and covers OT in UE Rehab. It discusses all of the areas that we address in this rehabilitation. It would be a good article for a client to read that is not to wordy. I also like the list of needs met by interventions in the article.

Sexuality and the Role of Occupational Therapy - 3 views

  •
This is an article from the AOTA's website on sex and OT's role. It describes what OT does for a client. It breaks down different categories such as health promotion, remediation, and modification. It describes certain interventions, and answers some of those questions that some of us might feel uneasy asking about.

Living With Arthritis - 0 views

  •
This is a great article on Arthritis. It is from the AOTA website. It tells and explains arthritis. But best of all it gives examples of things to do to prevent and help compensate with arthritis. These types of articles are great for me because now that I am obtaining all of this knowledge in the classroom, things like this make so much sense to me now. I remember when I would read articles like these when I first entered the program and would be discouraged because I did not understand some of the key points. It is so rewarding now for an article like this to be beneficial. I really enjoy the articles on AOTA, if you have not joined you need to! Great stuff on the website to take advantage of!

Really good article off the AOTA website on PROSTHETICS - 3 views

  •
This is an article about prosthetics. I thought it would tie in good with our class discussion. What I really like about the way this article is wrote, is that for OT it tells information that relates to our field. I like these articles on the AOTA website.

Anterior Hip Replacement: Anterior vs. Posterior Approach | Sutter Health - 1 views

  •
Good info in this article. With many different links on the side with more details about hip replacement. After my accident in 2004, the doctor told me I will, one day, have to have my hip replaced. So this information is very interesting to me and also to share with what we are covering in class.

How will Medicare Regulations Affect Your Practice? - 2 views

  •
    AOTA website
  •
I thought this tied in with our speaker on Medicare. It takes each setting and explains details of Medicare. It is very important to know this information when we get out in the field.

Ergonomics.org - Posture, Motion and Ergonomics - 1 views

  •
I thought this article described ergonomics in the workplace very well, along with being short and to the point. I would recommend it to someone who had not heard of the term before and just wanted to get an overall better understanding of it, without doing a lot of research.
