Competent and Confident: An Occupational Therapist Perspective on Sexual Health - 1 views

  •
This is a really interesting study that I read,"An Occupational Therapist Perspective on Sexual Health." This particular study is about how confident they are when OTs are talking to their clients about sex. If the client ask a question pertaining to sex, how many don't think twice about answering and do they answer the question correctly. Another thing that I found interesting in this study is that health professions were surveyed: Thee professionals were asked and about 90% of the surveyed population said sex talk was holistic, but only 6% reported that they discussed it. So, if OT knows that it is an important aspect. Why don't we talk more often? - Well, read and see!! ; )

Burnout-Coping with Stress | OT Continuing Education Course - 1 views

  •
This webpage is actually a CEU course by Wild Iris Medical Education. Completion of the test at the end gives the practitioner 1.5 contact hours and the cost is only $15. The information helps one identify stressors and then provides practical, easy-to-understand strategies for managing stress and remaining in the profession. It provides stress prevention ideas not only for the individual to implement, but employers as well. I also like that you can read the information for free if you choose not to take the course.

Occupational Therapy for Physical Dysfunction - Google Books - 1 views

This is an on-line copy of the textbook Occupational Therapy for Physical Dysfunction, 6th Edition. The first edition of this textbook with authors Catherine Trombly and Anna Deane Scott, was the first textbook aimed at OT for physical disabilities. Pages 22-29 address the origins of Occupational Therapy a lot of which is being discussed in the Work Lesson. Afterwards, it discusses practice tools as being work programs, crafts and exercise, adaptive equipment, PAMs, and orthotics. It helped me to view these in this manner as a choice of possible patient treatments to feel more secure in entering field work in the near future. It also states that physical therapists establish individual motions before the OT works on movement combinations required for ADLs. The simplistic wording of this book helps me to have a greater understanding of the OT profession as a whole which is why I chose to share this site.

Cancer Care and Oncology - 0 views

I found this article on the AOTA website. I didn't realize that occupational therapy is one of the only professions qualified to work with lymphedema. I thought it was really interesting how the writer pointed out that occupational therapy gives control back to patients who are in a very uncontrollable situation. Sometimes when working with patients, it is not about saving their lives but about helping them live their life with the most quality and happiness while they have life to live.

OT and Oncology - 1 views

  •
Oncology is described as an emerging practice area in the world of OT, and currently not many OT/As are working with people with cancer and their families. There are certainly efforts to change this, but for right now many people - both within and outside the profession - are very unfamiliar with how occupational therapy can help cancer patients.
