I often use this website in the classroom and provide several activities for students to complete for homework assignments. It provides relevant activities in adjacent to students' textbooks without making numerous copies of paper. Students complete the assignments assigned, save to jump drive, and send via email to teacher. It offers many resources for all subject areas.

Although this article is about teaching college mathematics, I thought the planning issues would basically be the same for teaching any math course.  See the highlighted section on "determining course grade"
  • Determining Course Grades Another planning issue was how to compute the grades and whether there would be any tests in the class. Since the purpose of the course to teach the students how to think mathematically and to introduce them to the realm of discrete mathematics, I decided to have the homework count for the majority of their grade. Also, due to the distance education nature of the course, I decided that frequent tests would not be appropriate. However, I left open the option of either a final exam or a final project.

  • Planning the course will be time consuming initially
  • Technical issues will always be a problem
  • busy during off-hours:
  • The first month will be the toughest, as instructors “train” students to meet the course expectations within an online environment.
  • check e-mail and course discussion boards frequently
