I like this idea.  I might redesign it a little, just because I think it could be done in a more space saving fashion... Another idea, if you are using jars, but maybe not vintage lids, you could mount the jar lids under the cabinet and screw the lids into the jars like people do in their workshops with babyfood jars and hardware...

This etsy seller makes tons of great things using old and reproduction mason jars and lids.  I happen to have several dozen old mason jars, not to mention the tin lids.  This is something I really want to try!!
