Free online books to read. Some of the books also contain audio links in which you can hear the book being read. Great practice for anyone learning to read. I like these because adults who may not be able to read to their children can enjoy the experience with their children and learn also.

Great because it has selections for young adults as well and older and younger children and some of the stories have audio. It also offers a more student friendly type quizzes section to self-check comprehension.

This site has actors reading stories, which is a wonderful model for building fluency and especially for experiencing prosody (expressive reading). I like it best because it has some of my childhood favorites like Harry, the Dirty Dog (read by Betty White!). There is also a good story for Black History month (White Socks Only).

This website not only offers a large collection of stories online, but users can also download the audio version for free and burn them to a CD. Choices include a huge assortment of fairy tales, classics and original stories. Although this is a wonderful service, children are unable to interact with the stories since it is strictly a reading site.
