The National Reading Panel (NRP) was created by Congress and charged with the task of evaluating different approaches used to teach children to read and assessing the effectiveness of each.

This is a remarkable site. Access to free, great books for your students and an opportunity to earn free books for your classroom or others through the "Read for My School" campaign.

TIME FOR KIDS is a news magazine geared toward students in grades K-6. Timeforkids.com offers age-appropriate news stories and features about children's books, movies, the environment, science, world cultures and other high-interest topics. Students can find easy-to-use homework help, grammar and punctuation practice, writing tips and a flash-card maker. My kids like seeing whats going on in the world and we read it as a class. I know also, that our literacy program next year (Treasures) is using time for kids too!

Wonderful children's zoo animal alphabet book.

This is a great website for use with special needs children or all ages of children. It provides a user-friendly site in which there are not an over-running of ads. Also there are pictures and text! Great for looking up almost anything in guided reading, independent activities, and group activities!

Virtual pinboard for organizing and sharing interests.

Storynory has published a free audio story every week since November 2005. The stories are delightfully read by professional actors. There are many different types of stories on this site.

TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of animated, talking picture books which teach young children the joys of reading in a format they'll love. Check out the free trial-- fabulous!
