Google have just released some new (but experimental) functionality for calendars. I'm not convinced that I would actually find most of them useful...apart, perhaps from the next meeting or who's free functionality. Apparently there's now an experimental (again) API for building one's own calendaring apps.

This is kind of related to the conversations we've had lately about digital natives...there's lots of folks out there using the web but there's still only a few that understand what's going on underneath.

Fun but ultimately quite thought provoking. Bloke from Google goes to Time Square to ask what a browser is. Less than 8% of people asked knew.

How to add a button to your website to let people easily add an event (or all your events) from your public google calendar to their own google calendar.

Could be useful for Learning Institute individual events and CILT/PGCAP whole calendars.

Google's new communication tool due out in the autumn

This is going to be big. There is a preview at the wave home page: http://wave.google.com/ (It's quite a long demo talk btw). It is in alpha at the moment and they've unusually announced it now to get developers on board before beta release in the autumn (does anything web 2.0-y ever get beyond beta these days?) as they're releasing it open source.

Using google for eportfolios

The awesome ProfHacker with a step-by-step guide to quickly getting a bunch of dates into a Google calendar. The author is using it specifically in the context of a course syllabus, but I thought it might also be useful for putting in things like PGCAP dates.

You can now view your gmail contacts in a stand alone site - useful if you want to check a contact when composing an email in anther tab

Someone has made a rather natty map of the Mile End campus...this is really rather cool and far more useful than anything on the official web site.

This is hilarious! I think anyone who has spent (too much?) time on forums can appreciate where the sentiment comes from! Maybe you should tag it with 'encouraging independent learning'... :P

Very useful - much clearer and simpler than timebridge which I have used before- timebridge does have more sophistication and enables people to book appointments with you via google calendar - tried it,nobody did - story of my life
