Fuel Cells 2000 : Hydrogen : Basics - 1 views

  • How much will Hydrogen fuel cost? The U.S. Department of Energy's Hydrogen, Fuel Cells & Infrastructure Technologies Program is working to achieve the following goals: By 2005, the technology will be available to produce hydrogen at the pump for $3.00 per gallon gasoline equivalent, and DOE wants to validate this technology by 2008.  By 2010, the price goal is $1.50 per gallon of gasoline equivalent (untaxed) at the station. Even $3 a gallon would save most of us money, since FCVs will be two to three times more efficient than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.  If all the goals are met, FCVs offer the promise of energy at $1 a gallon - or less!

Cheap fuel cells real soon? - Democratic Underground - 0 views

  • Scientists have come up with a more efficient way to split ocean water and turn it into sustainable, clean hydrogen fuel. They created a flexible plastic film that acts as the catalyst to begin splitting ocean water, without requiring the high energy input that current methods need.

Hydrogen FAQ - 0 views

  • The cost of hydrogen per mile to power a fuel cell electric vehicle is approximately competitive with the cost of gasoline at $2.30/gallon. This assumes that the hydrogen is made by reforming natural gas at the fueling station with existing commercial hydrogen fueling equipment in low production volumes (10 units). With larger scale production, we estimate that hydrogen will cost less per mile than gasoline selling at $1.50/gallon.

Fuel Cell Vehicles - 0 views

  • Currently, most hydrogen is made from natural gas through a process known as reforming. Reforming separates hydrogen from hydrocarbons by adding heat. Hydrogen can also be produced from a variety of sources including water and biomass.

The Disadvantages Of A Solar Generator | LIVESTRONG.COM - 1 views

  • Solar power generators offer a no-emission alternative to ones that use fossil fuel. These generators come in small, portable sizes for temporary power or larger arrays for permanent energy production.
  • availability of sunlight given local weather conditions and the resilience of the photovoltaic cells when purchasing a solar generator.
  • Most photovoltaic cells rely on silicon crystals to generate power. Demand for silicon has driven its price higher, meaning a solar generator can require a sizable initial investment. In fact, SolarBuzz notes that 45 percent of solar cell cost comes from the silicon wafer. Typical 2 kilowatt solar generators cost from $16,000 to $20,000.

It’s probably best used for smaller-scale and non-critical applications (ie not on your car’s custom paint job). Biodiesel can also be used to remove adhesive residues, like those left by duct tape. The last 7 uses I’ve heard about but wasn’t able to substantiate. If you know something about these, or have a resource to contribute, feel free to add it here: 9. Asphalt Cleanup Agent 10. MIT's artificial leaf is ten times more efficient than the real thing (Wired UK) - 0 views

  • The device is an advanced solar cell, no bigger than a typical playing card, which is left floating in a pool of water. Then, much like a natural leaf, it uses sunlight to split the water into its two core components, oxygen and hydrogen, which are stored in a fuel cell to be used when producing electricity.
