Louie provides Python programmers with a straightforward way to dispatch signals between objects in a wide variety of contexts. It is based on PyDispatcher, which in turn was based on a highly-rated recipe in the Python Cookbook. Louie is licensed under The BSD License.

Speech Recognition may be possible with COM. I found an example of how its done in Python.

SVGMath is written in pure Python, with neither extension modules nor external dependencies. It runs on any platform where a modern Python environment (version 2.4 or higher) is available. It can be used either as a command-line script for batch-mode file conversion, or as a component to process MathML data in other Python applications.

Following my thoughts yesterday, here are some VIM python scripts to add python breakpoint and debugging features to VIM. With this set up the F7 key will set a breakpoint on a line of code, Shift-F7 will remove all breakpoints and Shift-F12 will execute a script in the python debugger. This only runs on windows as far as I know, because it uses the 'start' command to launch the debugger in a seperate process without VIM waiting for it to finish. This allows you to look through the source code (and fix it) while the debugging is still in progress.

What is Py++? Definition: Py++ is an object-oriented framework for creating a code generator for Boost.Python library. Py++ uses few different programming paradigms to help you to expose C++ declarations to Python. This code generator will not stand on your way. It will guide you through the whole process. It will raise warnings in the case you are doing something wrong with a link to the explanation. And the most important it will save your time - you will not have to update code generator script every time source code is changed.

PyInstaller is a program that converts (packages) Python programs into stand-alone executables, under Windows, Linux and Irix. Its main advantages over similar tools are that PyInstaller works with any version of Python since 1.5, it builds smaller executables thanks to transparent compression, it is multi-platform (so you can build one-file binaries also under Linux), and use the OS support to load the dynamic libraries, thus ensuring full compatibility. PyInstaller is an effort to rescue, maintain and further develop Gordon McMillan's Python Installer (now PyInstaller). Their official website is not longer available and the original package is not longer maintained. The pycurl package is a Python interface to libcurl (http://curl.haxx.se/libcurl/). pycurl has been successfully built and tested with Python versions from 2.2 to the current 2.5.x releases.

So here is my own personal gentle introduction to using pdb. It assumes that you are not using any IDE -- that you're coding Python with a text editor and running your Python programs from the command line.

Sometimes you get an Excel spreadsheet (say, from the marketing departement) and you want to read tabular data from it (i.e. a line with column headers and lines of data). There are many ways to do this (including ODBC + mxODBC), but the easiest way I've found is this one : provide a file name and a sheet name, and read the data !
