Film fans might have noticed a colour revolution in cinema recently, because Hollywood seems to gave gone teal-and-orange crazy. Studio films from Hot Tub Time Machine to Iron Man 2 have used the combination, with the greenish-blue teal forming a backdrop and the orange (which includes flesh tones) in the foreground.

The article is mainly about the 6k workflow and the films cinematography techniques, but there is a small interview with the DI colourist on page 3, Might be useful for some of you. Great film by the way if anyone hasn't seen it. Apologies for the amount of articles on David Fincher i've posted, you my have noticed i'm slightly obsessed with his films!

David Fincher has been labelled all variations of a 'prince of darkness'. Perhaps rightfully so, as his movies mostly are crafted with a signature color palette (the colors and tones used throughout a film) which consists of dark tones, mostly green and blue.

Today we'll cover the basics of color in modern digital filmmaking and some things you need to think about as you consider how to color your productions. There is a place in my heart for Black and White photography. But black and white, as beautiful and nuanced as it can be - is a world onto itself.

Se7en is a dark crime-horror fantasy, written by Andrew Kevin Walker, directed by David Fincher with cinematography by Darius Khondji. The film was a success both commercially and critically. However due to the complexity of the photographic process, it is difficult to be certain that any of the home-video releases reflect the image seen in first run showings.

Careful skilled color grading can absolutely make or break your project. What's color grading, or 'color timing' ? It's the process of massaging the colors and intensities of video footage. It's a bit like photoshop for movies, except you're mostly working with color and brightness.

Technicolor is a colour film printing process invented in 1916. It was the most widely used colour process in Hollywood from 1922 to 1952 and celebrated for its saturated levels of colour. It was used most commonly for filming musicals such as The Wizard of Oz and Singin' in the Rain and used for Disney's animated classics such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Fantasia.
