Today we'll cover the basics of color in modern digital filmmaking and some things you need to think about as you consider how to color your productions. There is a place in my heart for Black and White photography. But black and white, as beautiful and nuanced as it can be - is a world onto itself.

Human cognition involves many mental processes that are highly interrelated, such as perception, attention, memory, and thinking. An important and core cognitive process is memory, which is commonly associated with the storing and remembering of environmental information. An interesting issue in memory research is on ways to enhance memory performance, and thus, remembering of information.

NOTE: This article has been updated, read the Feb 2014 update here - Updated Applying LUTs to Log footage. Working with Log material can be difficult at times, so we have put out a couple of different LUTs for use when using the Sony F3′s S-Log or Canon Log from the Canon C300.

David Fincher has been labelled all variations of a 'prince of darkness'. Perhaps rightfully so, as his movies mostly are crafted with a signature color palette (the colors and tones used throughout a film) which consists of dark tones, mostly green and blue.

A website featuring stills from films and their corresponding color palettes. A tool to promote learning and inspiration. Updated daily. It's interesting to see what actual colours are used. Some of your favourite films will probably be on here. Not too easy to navigate though (it's tumblr).

Chromatic Cinema provides the first wide-ranging historical overview of screen color, exploring the changing uses and meanings of color in moving images, from hand painting in early skirt dance films to current trends in digital color manipulation.
