A Digital Native ‎(Technology 4 Educators)‎ - 0 views

  • As an educator, do you ever find yourself feeling like the dad in Zits? Perhaps a "digital immigrant" in a technology obsessed nation? If so, then this website is for you! Choose one of the links below to get started learning the language of the digital natives (or perhaps I should say, "digital intuitives"-a term coined by Ben and Jared from EdTech Innovators-students have the intuitiveness to use technology but do they know how to use it appropriately to learn, to solve problems, to access information, and to create?).

I love that this is exactly what we are learning about in this program. It is how technology is growing so fast and we are trying to keep up with the students of today by understanding all this "techie jargon". I think this site will be so helpful to the person who wants to learn more about the way technology is used by students today.
  •
This site helps explain the basics of web 2.0 tools to a technology immigrant. It is a great site that would allow educators who are scared to learn about technology, because it is a very simple site that would teach them about what students are using today.

I was introduced to this site in another class I have taken through PSU and find it to be really powerful. TED stands for Technology Entertainment Design. This site goes beyond technologies for the classroom, and discusses real life technologies…some our students might be using in the future. This site contains a number of videos. The videos discuss a variety of topics, more than just technology. Two such videos that would be really thought provoking and/or great conversation pieces for a professional development day are found at the following links: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/taylor_mali_what_teachers_make.html http://www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html

What I liked most about this blog is that it is specifically designed for how you can integrate technology into your own classroom. It would be a great tool for teachers to utilize to help them turn their classroom into a 21st century learning environment. This site can also help give the support teachers need when they are trying to integrate different tools and technologies that districts sometimes lack after having taken a professional development course. I found it very encouraging.
