Thanks for this. I learn best from examples and seeing how others approach. I love that the templates include not only instructions for completion but also "case scenario" text to give you an example of a completed form. Very helpful.
Although our class has already discussed MS Project, I didn't notice it on our resource list here. It is a great addition to MS Products, such as SharePoint. Teams can manage their parts of projects in SharePoint and add their smaller tasks as needed. Unfortunately it is still something feared and underused. Another disadvantaged is that users must have PCs to. Use it and to view the plans
Sharepoint is a great project management tool, most especially for eLearning. Our online department utilizes it to manages tasks and build online resources for the department. It's a great place to share files and also comment on those files. It has discussion boards and announcement boards. Users can view files and edit them with versioning.
I agree that SharePoint is a great collaboration tool, although it's nice to have someone around who is an expert with using it. Sometimes it can be a little hard to handle. My favorite thing about SharePoint is that you can set up a workflow where a project manager can approve all document updates and new content before it goes live on the site. The manager can even leave comments to help the person revamp their submission. It's a great cloud-based collaboration and information management tool!
I agree, Melissa - it is a great tool but a bit cumbersome. We have a Sharepoint SME in our office who is working on revamping all of our sites. I am hoping it will make our teams use their sites to their fuller potential. If you have a content management plan, it is fantastic - but it can spiral out of control very quickly!
Nothing beats free and easy. For small projects or projects that require immediate collaboration, GD is the way to go. It has plenty of limits, but most people know GD and it's limitations.
This article is written in a humorous way and does describe the basic necessity of a project manager in eLearning projects. While it doesn't cover all aspects, it is well written and is open ended.
Andy Crowe gives the top 10 characteristics of a great project manager. Project management requires more than just meeting a deadline or moving a milestone it require more. Read and see.
This is great information for someone unfamiliar with project management. The key characteristics go beyond common sense ideals. I especially appreciate the suggestion to "cultivate and rely on extensive informal networks inside and outside the firm to solve problems that arise" - that is a great proactive problem solving strategy. Thanks for sharing this info :)
This is a great list! I like how it lists not using information as a weapon. It's amazing to see managers ignore this rule. It comes with the territory of holding back one's emotions or personal preference. Letting go is a quality that is hard to find in management.

Jennifer,
I posted a tool very similar. I really love mind mapping and think it has huge benefits in the area of project management. It is nice when multiple people can work on the same visual. These maps help you to organized your ideas and see potential problems. Both huge things in Project Management.
Its amazing how just a few years ago, resources like this were limited. Now the question is, which one of the many are going to provide you what you need. There are a significant amount of choices.
This is a resource for students which describe different topics in project management. The resource discusses different methodologies and covers many areas of within PM to include scope management, cost management, communications management, etc.

This is a video from the EDUCAUSE 2011 Conference where Loyola University presented its modification to Project Risk -- a game where your team competes against others to complete a project. It' an interesting resource about using game learning to teach PM. You can learn more about it at http://www.successfulprojects.com/Store/ProjectRiskBoardGame/tabid/68/Default.aspx.
