In the summer of 2011, nearly four years after a downturn began, the economies of the United States and the countries of Europe continue to struggle and markets were roiled by fears of new setbacks, defaults and the possibility of a double-dip recession.

I like how this article states that this bank is pointing out that there usually are those same charges as their customers are now seeing, it's just that they decided not to hide them anymore. I see that as an ethical decision being made.

If we were to have people in Congress who could work together and stop worrying about themselves so much, and how it would change their image if they actually (oh my!) compromised on something, then maybe more would be getting done on fixing the country's financial crisis. I felt this article fit in well with this week's discussion question.

I would not feel the need to belong to a bank that is going to charge me to keep my money with them. The article states that the rule (to charge $5 for every debit card use) only applies to banks with $10 billion or more in assets. If this is the case I would switch to a smaller bank or just use cash. Is this ethical? I would say no, because I have already given all of my money to the bank to lend to other people. How can this be ethical if I have already given them money?

Is trying to make a dollar worth more than losing a customer? I would never jeopardize my customers for money.

This article fits nicely with our discussion this week. It talks about adding a capital buffer. Some law makers say that without this, the banking industry could sink the economy again.

This is a quote from this article: "It makes its money by spending as little as possible on operations, and getting people to pay as much as possible for every bit they consume." If this is true, Verizon does not have good ethics, it's not keeping the best of the customer in mind.
