It is interesting how an unethical decision can seem small at first but usually shapes up to be much worse than you originally thought.

A friend had shared a picture on Facebook that I saw today. It was copies from two articles about two different crimes. One was of a wealthy white man and one was of a homeless black man. The pictures note the sentences and crimes committed and imply that there was disparity in the sentencing. Here is a post I found on the two cases. What are your thoughts on the different cases?

I did some extra research on these two cases as well (including Snopes). I posted the linke that I did (and only that) for a couple of reasons. 1) Because of the potential inequality of the two cases and 2) because I don't think that most people look past the information give to them. I was glad to see that someone (granted you are the professor, but still) looked into the stories a bit more. I think that also says something about ethics. I recently sent a friend of mine (who was making claims about products other than those she was selling). The claims were that there was bat guano in many brands of mascara. She told me she had heard this from an optometrist but she had never done any research on her own. When I did (because I did not want to make claims that I did not know to be true), I forwarded some of the sources I found to her. In our society, we tend to take things at face value.

Aha, very clever test :) Glad you're doing some of the critical thinking that, as you indicate, we need to be doing much more of. Keep up the good research!

Excellent article on what money means to you. If you are wealthy, it doesn't neccesarily mean that you are very knowledgeable. This article provides the morals between money.

Article talking about people with more money spend more money. But, I can see this true that even though people with more money than they ever will need still go broke.

What do you think is the moral issue in this, Marissa?

I guess I don't think the idea of pelting pigs with birds is very moral in itself. It seems like a lot of video games are about killing and after working with elementary kids, a lot of the anger issues are stemming from video games/movies/television. I think video games are over taking our world. However, I do suppose it is a wise marketing strategy for Starbucks.

on burn-out in the medical profession

Article that surprisingly thinks that starting your business in this economic downturn could actually be a good decision.

I don't think it's a bad idea anytime to start a small or large business up during a economic downturn. Just have a good business plan and everything important laid out and you will be succesful. Article talks about businesses starting up in economic downturn.

More attention is given to Entrepreneurs and the hope that more small businesses get on a role, thus creating jobs.

I strongly agree that it is time for entrepreneurs to really put themselves on the line. This article talks about how entrepreneurs need to stick their head out their and improve our economy and produce more jobs.

This is an amazingly insightful TED talk. It definitely got my mind going.

Article about phone companies charging individuals with fees that weren't actually taking place. I can see how phone companies could easily overcharge people, I can see millions of dollars made off corrupt phone bills.

Relating to the Ethics in Health Care topic this week, this Wisconsin School believed that they could change their students attitudes based on the food they served at lunch time!

Schools in Wisconsin changed their food menus to help achieve better overall health and cut crime/better people's lives. I can see how candy not being sold is a good thing in schools and I can also see how changing the menu is beneficial.

Discusses the ethics behind allowing office romances

I think that if a couple is flirting too much and other workers are noticing it and their fling is interrupting their work, than I would say something has to be done to keep work efficient and to have no distractions. But, if a couple is married and they do not distract anyone than I think that the office relationship is okay. As long as the office romance doesn't take time away from others and the romancers themselves are keeping up with their work, than everything is okay.

Talks about predator loans at a very high interest rate which is killing Americans in this debt filled country.

In all things that matter and can be and have been discriminated against, I read this article and laughed, not laughing because its funny, but because of the hysteria associated with not hiring someone because they haven't had work for awhile.

Body Cavity Searches and the like done by government employees who engage in behavior that violates the rights of American citizens

In our occupation, we should not be saying, "I'm just doing my job". We should have a moral obligation to do the right thing the right way while at work. Definately goes along with practical wisdom.
