I found this article very interesting. I work with some people that show these behaviors on a daily basis. This has some good advice on how to hande these situations, and avoid behaving badly at work.

This article talks about individuals with toxic behaviors that influence their work behavior and regular personality in their life.

This article points out the tendency for people to notice bad behavior and not good behavior. If one business acts unethically it can be compounded by an individual to assume all business is unethical.

Sustainability Reporting for companies has grown over the last decade by a substantial amount. The reason for this is it leads to economic and social behaviors increasing in their business.

Great resource, Kara. One of the biggest challenges for sustainability is getting people to notice and change everyday types of behaviors by which we unnecessarily use and consume energy.

I think the opening paragraph says it all: "Discussions about ethical issues, not to mention attempts to encourage ethical behavior, are constantly derailed by the invocation of common misstatements of ethical principles. Some of these are honest misconceptions, some are intentional distortions, some are self-serving rationalizations, and some, upon examination, simply make no sense at all."

I do have to disagree with the author's example of consequentialism. Normally, saving a woman from being killed would be ethical, however, going back in time and disrupting the time line (in my opinion) was not. Had he not gone back in time, he wouldn't have had an opportunity to save the woman and in the end, the Nazi's would not have won WWII. Also, in relation to the fallacy of "It's ethical if it's not illegal" - I don't believe that everything that is illegal is immoral or unethical. That is why laws are able to be changed - sometimes the law is wrong or unethical.

This brings up the question as to whether our moral values are the same as they used to be. Are we slipping in regards to our professional behaviors?

In our occupation, we should not be saying, "I'm just doing my job". We should have a moral obligation to do the right thing the right way while at work. Definately goes along with practical wisdom.

Ethics are a collection of principles of right conduct that shape the decisions people or organizations make. Practicing ethics in marketing means deliberately applying standards of fairness, or moral rights and wrongs, to marketing decision making, behavior, and practice in the organization.
