The GOP: Big Tent or Big Top? - 1 views

Bring in the clowns! Sometimes the Party of the Big Tent is like the circus act where a plethora of clowns rides in on impossibly small fire engine and slapstick their way to guffaws.

Bloggers are Africa's new rebels - Chicago Tribune - 0 views

  • Dagem, as he chose to be called, was a new type of African revolutionary: a blogger.
  • The U.S. should take note. As it prepares to engage with Africa more intensely than at any time since the Cold War, in part by the Pentagon’s establishment of a new Africa Command headquarters to coordinate military and security interests, the U.S. will be competing on an increasingly flat information playing field.
  • Gone are the days when Washington could control its messages in client states. The scruffy cyber cafes of Chad and the man in Congo who rents his cell phone by the minute – sometimes climbing atop a tree to improve reception – ensure that Washington’s voice will have to vie with those of the resource-hungry Chinese, or with the designs of Al Qaeda recruiters.

This older article highlights the immorality of much that is called U.S. foreign policy and journalism. The lesson learned here is not what it should be, that people on the grassroots are fighting against authoritarian violent governments funded by the U.S. Rather it is a bland, neoimperialist comment about what the U.S. propaganda machine has to deal with in future interventions.

A Nation Terrified by Terrorists - 0 views

  •
Despite the snooping databases, huge intelligence aparatus, and two wars, terrorists slip through. They'll slip through if you fly naked and ban all luggage. Loons will be loons, but they're smart and invisible as needles in a worldwide haystack.

Don't Blame Obama, America Did It To Itself - 0 views

  •
Obama is neither liberal nor conservative, he's a middle of the roader. It sure would've been nice if voters had noticed that before they elected him.
  •
I'd sure like to see Obama "kick some ass", instead of allowing the Repubs to do the same thing they've been doing for the past eight or nine years. Mainly bully and intimidate, and use scare tactics to get what they and big business want.
  •
Frank: The democrats have a 60 vote majority and Obama doesn't need them at all for anything. He pretty much has let them know "We Won!" He also has pretty much let them know he doesn't need them. This is a Liberal controlled White House, Senate and House. Stop the blame game. Let's put the focus exactly where everyone who is truthful, here, understands: On the Democratic controlled Administration and Congress. They have all the marbles and they don't need the Republicans' vote. The problem Obama has is that he realizes that there is going to be a bloodbath. Please, don't say otherwise - even his own people are starting to prepare the party. Why do you suppose four Democrats announced that they are retiring - they aren't even running over the next 10 1/2 months. More will reitre before election day. He has the same problem that Clinton had - he could possibly lose the House and he would then be somewhat in the same position of Clinton - who was forced to the middle because he would not be able to get anything else approved. I may be wrong, history will decide, but I think the American people no longer trust either party. Are you happy with the Democrats? We now have senators selling their vote for $300,000,000 in one instance and Sen. Nelson just got a permanent exemption for Medicaid cost that States have to pay - Forever! All 49 other states must pick up this states cost - all for one vote! Do you believe this is what the Democrats, Republicans or Independents expect or want from their government. I don't. Getting back to my point, the people of America don't trust either party, now, and want them closely divided so they don't do too much harm. Independents have swung away from Obama in a very big way. He ran more as a centrist and now people fill lied to. Seven days before he took office he said he was fundamentally going to change America. No one had heard this before - not "Fundamentally". They expected a far more bipartisan

Meet Tony Soprano, New CEO of First Premier Bank - 2 views

  •
First Premier Bank is making the leap into legalized loan sharking with a new credit card offering a $300 credit limit for $256 in first year fees, a $29 late fee, and a $75 annual fee thereafter. Oh, and they want to charge 79.9% interest on the outstanding balance just to sweeten the pot.

Pakistan rejects Obama's demands to crackdown on militants - 0 views

  •
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and U.S. President Barack Obama have become quite the pen pals as of late. Yet, cutting through the niceties contained within letters they had recently exchanged, one can sense an underlining tension between the so-called strategic partners, exposing a vitreous relationship filled with mistrust.

Taliban blow up girls' school - religious perversion strikes again - 0 views

  •
Taliban militants blew up a girls' school in Pakistan's Khyber district in the pre-dawn hours Monday morning. Of course, it's not that heinous a crime because they obliterated the school while empty. The parents of the little Afghan girls should consider themselves lucky - no blood, no foul.

As If Making The Afghanistan Announcement From West Point Fools Anyone It has been close to 90 days since the demands made by General McCrystal were aired, and the leisurely process seems to be finally winding down despite itself. The healthcare plan has passed the initial hurdle to get to the Senate floor, so the field is clear to make an announcement on troop strength and strategy....

Stimulus Creates A Limited Number Of "Real" New Jobs When The President Can Lead By Example, He Chooses Not To We have all heard the cries of success from the Administration on the supposed success of the Stimulus Bill in creating new jobs for the American people who are so desperate to find them. Aren't the politicians watching the polls? - 0 views

Healthcare: At The Best 50% Approval, Now 38% Nothing means more to politicians than the polls. Polls are the lifeblood that let them know what they should be for, what they should be against and what they should stay away from. If some action is in the best interest of national security, but the polls say that public opinion is against it, most, not all, politicians will be swayed. This, despite the fact that popular opinion is not a reliable gauge of right and wrong, particularly when it comes down to facts that only politicians may be privy to...

The Political Commentator: SNL: Mainstream Media Has Obama's Number - 1 views

The Bastion Of Bush/Palin Bashing Has Seen The Obama Light For those of you who go to sleep early on Saturday nights, or who are out late having a good time, Saturday Night Live had a great opening skit of a press conference between the leader of China and President Obama. In it, the questions are raised as to how China is going to be paid back the hundreds of billions that they have lent to us, given the huge level of deficit spending already done, and that which is in the pipeline such as the new healthcare plan...

Keeping you in the Know: Senate Votes To Debate Health Care - 0 views

  •
To the GOP everything can be solved by lower taxes and more corporate incentives. And yes, the upper middle class and the elite wealthy all benefit nicely… but it DOES NOT TRICKLE DOWN! The poor are still getting poorer, the lower middle class is still struggling along with the poor to hold jobs and keep health insurance.

Number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9 - 0 views

President Obama is off on his trip to the Far East, ready to come home to deal with the many items piling up on his plate: healthcare, the economy, Thanksgiving, Democrat fundraising, the environment, early Christmas shopping, you name it. Busy, busy schedule. Somewhere in all of that he will fit in his ninth meeting with his war council on the troop decision in Afghanistan. To date he has spent a good 20-30 hours with them. That 20-30 hours has been spread over many months (close to 11 in office to date), leading one to believe that this decision is not his number one priority...

The Political Commentator: Fort Hood: How Safe Are The Rest Of Us? - 1 views

  •
At Fort Hood, the largest military base in the country, it would be assumed that it would have a superior level of security, at least when compared to the streets of New York City, Chicago or some other urban area. People are watched going in and out of the base, they are constantly observed and they are subject to the rules and disciplines of the armed forces. In our cities and towns there is no such surveillance or rules. Malik Nadal Hasan was a known entity, and one whose actions had been under scrutiny. In other words, all of the signs were there if someone wanted to see them...
