Title IX: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Title IX has been in schools since 1972. It's best known for breaking down barriers in sports for women and girls. It also opens the door for girls to pursue math and science. It requires fair treatment. It protects students from bullying and sexual harassment. And it does much more. This two-day workshop examines what Title IX is and what it encompasses. From sexual harassment to bullying will be among the topics covered . . . Including athletics, academic achievement, discipline, investigation, policies, procedures, and law suits. This is an excellent opportunity for each school and district to receive training on their Title IX requirements.

Education Week: The Best Antidote to Bullying? Community-Building - 0 views

  • Bullying doesn't wound students; it pours salt on a pre-existing injury, causing it to hurt even more. Most students who are bullied have already been hurt. They are wounded by exclusion when they find themselves without friends or allies. They are wounded when they fail in school, or when they don't gain the approval of their peers or, all too often, their teachers. They are wounded when they don't get the help they need. And they are wounded when they feel they have no place to go, or no one to talk to.

Bullying Hurts Everyone, Not Just the Victim | LD Parents - NCLD - 0 views

  • At first, the word “bullying” conjures up images of a tough, wise-cracking kid verbally taunting and embarrassing another, pushing, punching, poking, tripping, threatening, taking his possessions, ripping his clothes, defacing his property… all behaviors that are clearly inappropriate and that demand immediate adult intervention. But what about the child who because of her small stature and difficulties with expressive language, is rejected by peers when she tries to sit next to them on the school bus and taunted when she tries to join in a conversation? Or the student who is fearful of walking through the hallways in school because of the dozens of times (by any number of peers) he has been shoved, face first, into a locker or had his backpack yanked off his body causing him to fall backwards (sometimes on the staircase!) resulting in his being late for class, not to mention the physical and emotional pain he’s had to endure.
