The Autism Speaks Baker Summer Camp Program selects eligible camps in the United States to identify qualified campers and offer scholarship funds for financially disadvantaged children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to attend a summer camp. Note: Individuals may not apply for the program. If you are an individual interested in obtaining a scholarship for your child, please encourage your local camp to apply for a scholarship fund.

    The camp is free, and open to all young women finishing 7th or 8th grade in the Bozeman area.  The program will consist of a five-day summer camp (taught by K-12 teachers and faculty from MSU), followed by work on individual projects (with mentorship by undergraduate math majors and faculty members), culminating in a poster presentation in December of 2012. Math in the arts, nature, and in careers will be the themes for the camp. Where:

  • NEW YORK, NY (January 28, 2010) – Autism Speaks, the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, today announced the establishment of the Autism Speaks Baker Summer Camp Scholarship Program, which will provide eligible camps with funding to offer scholarships to campers with autism. The program, funded by Norma and Malcolm Baker, began in Southern California and will now expand to the national level. Camps providing a qualified summer camp program to individuals with autism are encouraged to apply for a Camp Scholarship Fund through the Autism Speaks Baker Summer Camp Scholarship Program. Applications will be accepted from now through March 1, 2010. Eligible camps will identify qualified campers who can demonstrate financial need and offer up to $5,000 in scholarship funds.

If you have or know of a physically challenged child who might enjoy a camp experience contact us. Physical disabilities including but not limited to; sight or hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, amputee, gross motor skill impairments, and other disabilities. They don't stop kids from enjoying their time at camp in the beautiful Beartooth Mountains. Charles Campbell Children's Camp campers enjoy fishing, hiking, swimming, games, dances, campfires, singing, family style living and dining, and the call of the great outdoors.

    Spend the week getting your feet wet! We'll explore a new, close by aquatic habitat every day. We'll wade, look for aquatic invertebrates, see if we can spot any osprey, and learn about how important water is to all living things. Creepy Crawlies  July 30-August 3, 2012
    Who doesn't love learning about insects? We'll spend the week seeing what we can catch and learning about metamorphosis and other amazing insect facts. We'll even start our own (live) insect collection that we will release at the end of the week. A trip to the electron microscope at the university will let us see all sorts of neat critters up close and personal! Backcountry Explorers  July 30-August 3, 2012
    Want to spend a week in the woods this summer that includes a fantastic overnight backpacking trip?  We'll hike some beautiful trails every day and explore the world around us using tools of a naturalist like field guides and compasses.  We'll also learn about plants and animals common to our region as we get out and explore, and practice Leave No Trace Principles. This camp will feature an overnight backpacking trip from August 2-3.   • Children with disabilities require and need recreation the same as other children.  Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (“A.D.A.”), your child is entitled to attend any camp or activity that non-disabled children attend, with modifications, and with a few exceptions. It is highly critical that you discuss any needed modifications way before the first day of camp, so the entity has time to make the necessary preparations.  Enter into discussions taking a team approach, as you will be entrusting your child to this program all summer.  Be reasonable in your requests, and remember, just because your friend’s child is doing it, the program may not be a good fit for your child, even with modifications. This article will illustrate for you who is protected by the A.D.A, the modifications required under the law, and how to prevent discrimination.

  • Epilepsy Foundation Northwest Camp Discovery August 31–September 3 The Epilepsy Foundation Northwest’s Camp Discovery, located at Camp Fire USA’s Camp Killoqua in Stanwood, Wash. (Snohomish County), is a 4-day, 3-night camp for children and teenagers, ages 7–17, with epilepsy. It’s a great opportunity for kids to experience the fun of camp activities—swimming, fishing, sports, hiking and more—all designed to be accessible and adapted to campers’ individual needs and abilities, all in a safe, medically monitored setting. The camp is free to kids with epilepsy and costs $150 for siblings. Scholarships are available for qualified individuals, based on availability and financial need.
