Studies have found the most effective note-taking techniques are active, whereas rereading, highlighting, and underlining are passive techniques.

Students who wrote longhand notes outperformed laptop note takers in recalling information to pass the quiz. And when the researchers examined the students’ notes, they found a clue as to why: The laptop notes tended to include a lot of verbatim transcription of the video, whereas handwritten notes couldn’t be written fast enough to do the same.

A series of studies tested drawing against writing and other approaches for memorizing words, and found drawing came out on top.

I don’t know about you, but I want to work better. Not only do I want to work better, I want to get better at what I do every day. I have no desire to be the subject matter expert that holds my knowledge like a currency that people are trying to steal.

When sharing happens, everyone is able to boost productivity at a faster pace. Also, more importance is put on problems solving and innovation and not ideas which are impossible to hold  for long. If you hold ideas as a currency for employment then there will come a point when that currency is worthless. Value must be created and recreated in the form of the networks we create and maintain. That’s not something that can be stolen, lost, or diminished.

think of it as a brainteaser, forcing me to think hard and dig deep down into my vocabulary to find a way to shorten my message.
