Make words using tiles. Hurry before the tiles pile up. When question mark tiles reach the bottom a word pops up with 4 choices and you have to choose a synonym for the word to move on. Addicting!
This link comes from Frank Serafini's website. He is the author of many professional development books for teachers on reading. I like these book lists because they are recommended from someone who knows good children's literature, and sometimes I just don't know what to read with my students. There is even a list of books boys might enjoy-which I find helpful!
This is another teacher's website that I learned of last year when taking the district's guided reading class. I linked you to the genre page, where it gives fun ideas you can try to teach kids genre. However, take some time to look around her whole site-there are lots of good ideas and resources!
This is a great website if you do anything with the human body. I know 5th grade has a whole science unit on it, but didn't know if anyone else might be able to use it, too!
