With so many organizations out there competing for attention and money, having a solid social media strategy is going to be paramount to success in the future. This Webinar looks pretty interesting, and should help to sort out some of those issues for NPOs of any size. I would be really interested to hear Brooke McMillan talk about managing the Livestrong presence online, and how they look at Social Media as a fundraising tool.
This article reveals a potential source for NPO's to recieve discounts on professional services above and beyond what our professor spoke of, like advertising, for example.
Social media tools, such as twitter and facebook, played a significant part of the overthrowing of Mubarak. With two-thirds of Egypt's population under the age of 30, it's no surprise that internet-savvy, educated, young Egyptians used such tools to break barriers in a country that has been ruled under unjust dictatorship throughout their lives. These tools helped organize and gather the millions of protestors that have sparked revolution in Egypt. Social media and sharing information online has played an almost unimaginable role in this process and certainly poses a threat to governments around the world with dictatorships and a significant proportion of the population who is educated and able to use these tools.
Facebook revised its terms and conditions regarding state and local governements. The revised conditions will allow for broader use of facebook throughout the government. Many individual agencies have created their own facebook pages and the new conditions have allowed for state and local governments to be more confident and assured in their use of facebook.
Too much is too much in a website and especially if you are demanding others to build around you. The
project objectives for this redesign were vague and ambitious. This is a recipe for cost overruns. So far no
one is rushing to comply with the objectives set out by this redesign team.
Someone needs to stay on this mission, inside or outside of the organization. The only way to keep things
current is to keep someone watching over the process. A failure to monitor your IT investments is a colossal waste of the investment. Social media is a long-term obligation if you want to participate. This article also recommends that interns shouldn't overlook this process. You want to choose an associate for the long-term but it is ok to choose someone outside of the organization if they understand what is required.
This article is about a new nonprofit being started by two very well known figures Biz Stone of Twitter and Rey Ramsey of TechNet.
"ConvergeUS is dedicated to bringing together the technology, nonprofit, governmental and academic sectors to facilitate and accelerate technology-based social innovation - new strategies, concepts, ideas and coalitions - to meet social needs ranging from early childhood education to disaster response and assisting military families, among other issues," said a TechNet spokesman.
An example of two volunteer-based organizations merging together for mutual benefits, and to maximize their ability to serve their client base. Taking the best of both worlds and combining them should create synergy.
"Biz Stone, Twitter co-founder, announcing tonight that he is joining forces with a nonprofit technology group to start ConvergeUS, a charity that sees to combat social problems with new technology."
National Unplugging day is where people put away their phones, computers and any kind of social networking devices for one day. The day was very successful and people liked it because it helped them reconnect with each other because it forced them to communicate one on one. Ironically, they are going to develop an app to get the word out about National Unplugging Day.
