The article notes that hosting critical business applications under a single Oracle Exadata architecture has made it easier for the university to deliver database-wide updates and manage the system. The article includes comment from Patton Fast, senior director and enterprise architecture, University of Minnesota, who notes that the Exadata platform has been an enabler to reduce total cost of ownership related to supporting Oracle databases because they were able to drive the adoption of best practices and dramatically reduce the amount of infrastructure required.
