White Board Collaborative Drawing IPad App - 0 views

  •
This is an app that allows students to collaborate with one another to create a drawing. The app could also be used for students to communicate in other ways than face-to-face. The best part about this app is that students do not need to be sitting next to each other to create a drawing. Students from across the room could communicate through the app without discussing face to face. Allowing students the opportunity to express creativity in methods other than writing could increase students level of comfort with a specific material.

  •
This is an interactive, online whiteboard where you can plan and draw webs and timelines and whatever you can think of. You can also insert videos, documents, photos, and lots of other things. You can put notes and post-its and, best of all, you can invite other people to be on the board with you and edit together!! As a teacher this could be very handy and posting a link to it on your classroom website will enable you to work with your students at home!

This website allows the creation of a storyboard. Features provided are a drawing tool, script writing, and actions. The most neat tool about this app is you can add collaborators. This would allow for students to work on one together and comment on each others work.

Do Your Students Know How To Search? | Edudemic - 0 views

  • There is a new digital divide on the horizon. It is not based around who has devices and who does not, but instead the new digital divide will be based around students who know how to effectively find and curate information and those who do not.  Helene Blowers has come up with seven ideas about the new digital divide – four of them, the ones I felt related to searching, are listed below. The New Digital Divide: In an age of information abundance learning to effectively search is one of the most important skills most teachers are NOT teaching. They assume students know how to conduct a search, and set them free on the internet to find information. They assume that students have the skills to critically think their way through the searching and the web. Sadly, this is not the case and everyday we are losing the information literacy battle because we often forget to teach these crucial searching skills in our schools. Teachers – especially in the elementary grades  -need to develop a shared vocabulary around the skill of searching. They need to make sure their students learn some basic search strategies and keep applying them until they become almost automatic. Here are some of the searching skills and vocabulary we should be teaching students : Quotation Marks: Students should always use quotes to search for an exact word or set of words. This is useful when you want something like quotes, song lyrics or text from a an exact historical time period. Example: “The Great Chicago Fire” Dashes (or minus sign): Use this symbol directly before a word to help exclude unwanted information from your search Example: Great Chicago Fire -soccer Two Periods: Use this to help you find information between those two numbers. For example you might want to try: Example: Great Chicago Fire October 8..10 Site Search: For a look through the Chicago HIstory Museum site only Examples: Great Chicago Fire site:chicagohs.org         site:Chicagotribune.com

Teachers open up about the (mostly lousy) economics of their dream job | ideas.ted.com - 0 views

  • “I am grateful for my job. I think I earn a fair income. But I am very busy, and I feel like I need much more time: time to talk with students and parents, time to teach, and time at home to take care of my family.”
  • “I have one major frustration with working as a teacher: Education policy is seemingly run as a wishful thinking project, where politicians draw a path for pupils they don’t understand on a map they haven’t seen. I wish we teachers would have more aggressively participate in forming education policy.”
  • I love my job. I really, truly do, and did not enter it for the pay. But if I quit tomorrow, and went to work for Aflac, I would make more. If I took home about $500 USD more, I think it would be a fair income.

Team Shake is the premier iOS App for creating teams. Instead of a hat and scraps of paper or drawing sticks, the user enters his friends' names in his iPhone and gives it a shake. The screen will then display a random set of color-coded teams. These teams can immediately be used for game play or shared via Facebook or email.

"Educreations is a community where anyone can teach what they know and learn what they don't. Our software turns any iPad or web browser into a recordable, interactive whiteboard, making it easy for teachers and experts to create engaging video lessons and share them on the web. Students can replay these lessons any time, any place, on any connected device. We're on a mission to dramatically improve student achievement by extending the reach of great teaching." You are able to create videos where you can teach your lessons and draw like it is a white board.
