Mozilla X-Ray Goggles - 0 views

  •
X-ray Goggles is another great tool that Mozilla makes to help students learn the code that powers much of what they see on the Web. X-ray Goggles is a free tool that lets you remix any page that you find on the Internet. (Note, it doesn't change the way others see the page, it only changes the way that you see it). To use X-ray Goggles you need to install it in your Chrome or Firefox bookmarks bar. Then you can launch it on any webpage. When you launch X-ray Goggles you will be able to select images and text on a page and then shown the code behind your selection. X-ray Goggles will let you then alter the code to display new things on that page. Watch my video here to learn how to use X-ray Goggles.

Taking Charge of the Web in Your Classroom | Scholastic.com - 0 views

  • Students will undoubtedly have already encountered the digital world by the time they enter your classroom, but they may not have considered the consequences of their online actions. Here are several common-sense rules for users under the age of 13, the maximum age that the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act considers an individual a “child”:
  • Stick to kid-friendly search engines. Search engines are indispensable tools for web-based research. Most, however, are too indiscriminate to be useful to young users. For example, searching for "White House" on Google returns almost three billion results, most of which will be irrelevant or inappropriate for students.

These suggestions should be considered in every classroom no matter how much technology is used.  If technology is used at all, teachers need to pay attention to these.

Online whiteboard & online collaboration tool | RealtimeBoard - 0 views

  •
This is an interactive, online whiteboard where you can plan and draw webs and timelines and whatever you can think of. You can also insert videos, documents, photos, and lots of other things. You can put notes and post-its and, best of all, you can invite other people to be on the board with you and edit together!! As a teacher this could be very handy and posting a link to it on your classroom website will enable you to work with your students at home!
