Teaching Learners with Multiple Special Needs: Recordable Storybook - 2 views

  •
"Hallmark is now offering 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, All the Ways I Love You and Bright and Beautiful in their new Recordable Storybook format. These books allow a parent, grandparent or other to record themselves reading the story and have that recording played back automatically as the pages of the book are turned. A flip of a switch "locks" the recording in even if the batteries die. A very cool idea when used in the way intended, but possibly even cooler if you start thinking about it as an AT adaptable."

"Do you own an iPhone? Do you also have toddlers or kids who are about to enter school? Put the iPhone and the kids together with some of the apps listed below to keep the kids busy as they prepare themselves for school. The list below is separated by categories, and each app is listed alphabetically under those categories to show that we do not favor one app over another. The links lead to reviews about the apps or to the businesses that created the apps. This way, you can learn more about the apps before you download them. While many of the apps listed below are free, some cost anywhere from $0.99 to under $4.00. Also, the reviews can help you learn whether the app truly is age-appropriate for your child."

eReader software from Ray Kurzweil, Blio preserves printed format, including layout, fonts, and images true to the book's original form, and in color. A synthesized voice reads the book aloud, synchronized with follow-along word highlighting, Blio offers a large selection of books that otherwise don't translate well into eContent: especially cookbooks, travel guides, how-to books, schoolbooks, and children's stories.

A Visual Representation of Bloom's Taxonomic Hierarchy with a 21st Century Skills Frame. For the record...this is an implementation point, a discussion starter. Those of us that provide staff development around instructional technology have identified a need to share more than just tools with teachers. To evaluate them based on Bloom's Taxonomy is simply a way to connect the tools to those that would be identified with the Affective, Psychomotor, or Cognitive domains--specifically the Cognitive. The visual that you see here is the seed of discussion. There are other models in the section to the left called "Ideas for the Visual." I would hope that the critical analysis of what we've started here includes attention to the fact that we are building something from the ground up, starting conversations and collaborating around doing what's best for kids and teachers. This is a work in progress and will continue to evolve.
