Assistive Communication Device | TapToTalk - 0 views

  •
"The TapToTalk Nintendo App turns a Nintendo DS, DSi or DS Lite into an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device. Children love to use TapToTalk on a Nintendo because it is cool and they don't stand out. Parents love it because it is ultra-portable, sturdy and economical. And your child can use it to communicate anytime, anywhere. "

  •
In this section of the exhibit, we hope to share some of the best apps for enabling and empowering students with special learning needs. We hope to show how these can let the iPod touch serve these students in profound and unique ways, letting them to use mobile technology to not only engage, interact, and communicate with others but do it in ways they might not be able to do otherwise. Finally, good luck and please spread the word about this resource so the ideas here can be spread and helping others achieve all they can in teaching and learning.

Social Bookmarking: Delicious Vs Diigo | Integrating Technology in the Primary Classroom - 0 views

  •
"Up until recently, I have been happily using Delicious to store, organise and share my favourite links. With the Internet Explorer Delicious add-on, I found it so simple to store sites as I browsed the net. In addition, searching Delicious for websites often gave me more reliable results than mainstream search engines. This was until my teacher friend Linda Yollis suggested I try Diigo. As a ex-Delicious user, she made the switch after discovering the impressive features that Diigo offers. After I "took the tour" of Diigo, I made the switch too."

"Dynamic Paper Need a pentagonal pyramid that's six inches tall? Or a number line that goes from ‑18 to 32 by 5's? Or a set of pattern blocks where all shapes have one-inch sides? You can create all those things and more with the Dynamic Paper tool. Place the images you want, then export it as a PDF activity sheet for your students or as a JPEG image for use in other applications or on the web."

Minspeak Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) Device, Core Vocabulary, Autism &... - 0 views

  •
"Minspeak is a way of representing language in a communication device. If you show people a picture of something simple, like an apple, they will naturally associate more than one idea with that picture. People usually say the most obvious idea first - "apple" - but then they start associating more ideas - "fruit," "red," "eat," "bite," and "hungry." Minspeak takes advantage of this natural tendency by using a small set of pictures to represent a large number of words in a communication device. "

"This Issue Brief harnesses the thinking of NCTI stakeholders and the literature in the educational and AT field to provide insight for current and future investment, development, and research. The Issue Brief discusses five themes that define state-of-the-art assistive technology: 1. Convergence 2. Customizability and universal design for learning (UDL) 3. Research or evidence-based 4. Portability to promote independence 5. Interoperability Underlying these themes is a design imperative: devices should be simple - simple to learn, to use, to integrate, and to support."
