all4mychild | collaborative tools and technology - 4 views

Social skills development can be a rocky road for many children…we like to call it a "Social Adventure." When given concrete and creative means to learn about and practice social communication and friendship, the journey can be fun rather than confusing and frightening. One passion we all share is leading groups to facilitate and enhance social cognition. Another is introducing technology as a motivational learning medium wherever and whenever we can. As many of you know, the introduction of the iPad has led to an absolute explosion of creativity for new therapy activities! We have found technology to be a wonderful means to collaborate and learn from and with each other, regardless of background, education, or training. Technology has become a common and accessible connection for parents, teachers, and therapists in helping children learn. For some time now, we have been incorporating the use of apps in our individual and group therapy. We are now ready to jump into development ourselves.

autism, iTaalk.org Home - 1 views

Since January 1, 2011, The iTaalk Autism Foundation has educated over 500 families, service providers and caretakers on the beneficial uses of interactive technology with children with Autism and varying other special needs. Education is of upmost importance, and will ALWAYS be iTaalk's most important venture. With that said, the cost of technology can be overwhelming for families already struggling to afford necessary therapies. So, iTaalk has made it a priority to offer giving cycles where families in need can apply for iOS technology. In the past year, we have given over 70 devices to children with an Autism Diagnosis and have set a goal to give away 500 by the end of 2011. We

Hope Technology School - Introduction - 1 views

  •
"We began with a parent's vision of an inclusive community for families with and without disabilities. The hope was to use technology, particularly computers, to include individuals with special needs and their typically developing peers into one classroom environment. In 2001 a fully inclusive Hope Technology School was established. Now in our tenth year, serving over 120 students, Hope Technology School has become a preschool-through-eighth-grade program including an onsite, NPA-certified Therapy Department, Vocational Education Program, and Assistive Technology (AT) Lab in Palo Alto, California. Our school includes students who are typically developing as well as students with special needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, dyslexia, and other learning differences. "
