An iPad Workflow for the Classroom Using Google Drive & Pages, Keynote or Numbers | Jon... - 1 views

  •
"The Google Drive iPad app is not yet all that we might want it to be, but it is definitely moving in the right direction. A recent update included the ability to create and edit spreadsheets, but it also added something equally useful - the ability to upload files from other apps to Google Drive via the "Open in" function. This creates some useful workflow options for teachers who want to assign, receive and grade student work on the iPad."

Final List - 1 views

  •
"When looking for apps for students on the autism spectrum (ASD), it is important to look at all educational apps and not just those that are tagged as autism apps. They have many of the same learning needs that other students have. This list was developed to provide apps based on common learning characteristics and traits that are typical for students with ASD. It is important to remember that all students learn differently and selecting apps should be based on the unique learning needs of the student. This list is only a sampling of apps available for each skill area. This is not, nor is it meant to be a definitive list. This list is intended to give you a starting place and a rationale for picking certain apps."

UW Augcomm: Continuum of Communication Independence - 4 views

  •
"In my work, I define "independence" in communication as: "the ability to communicate anything on any topic to anyone" It doesn't matter whether or not the individual relies on a communication aid or device, as long as he or she can communicate anything to anyone he/she chooses. Since most of us able-bodied speakers take this for granted, it might be easiest to understand independence by seeing its absence in some cases..."

"This is an interface to YouTube designed for people who access their computers via either 2 switches (right arrow to move and left arrow to choose) or a mouse. It allows the user to use two keys/switches to navigate through a list of movies, and watch any or all of them. It currently supports watching movies from a single playlist. Hopefully browsing support will be added in soon. For now, you must use Firefox in order for it to work."

iPad. In the Home. At Work. In School? - 0 views

  •
"With Apple always being ahead of the game in music, movies and other entertainment, it is interesting to see the effect they now have in the educational field. On Wednesday, Apple fans were hanging off the edge of their seats as they witnessed the revealing of the new tablet computer, the iPad. This Wi-Fi enabled device has 10 hours of battery life on its 9.7-inch screen, weighing in at only 1.5 pounds. It uses the iPhone operating system so education companies that have iPhone apps can now make the same information available on the iPad."

Fake Facebook Page Fun - 2 views

  •
Ed Tech Steve: "All right, so a Social Studies teacher came to me with an awesome idea today- she wanted her students to create fake Facebook pages of historical figures and wasn't sure how to go about it. We pondered creating Nings with fake profiles, but she needed it quickly and this was something we could whip up on short notice! I decided to do a MS Publisher Template and had too much fun with it not to share. Here is Abe Lincoln's fake Facebook page! I can say this was a good review for me, even- and hopefully the kids will like creating their own from this template! I created a template for a wall as well as a template for just a regular profile. "

Top 50 Web 2.0 Tools (50 Web 2.0 Tools Your Students Want You to Use) - 1 views

  •
"Ever wonder what it would be like if we let our students pick the tools we use in class? This collection of web 2.0 tools is just that- a list of tools and ideas for what students see as being useful for their learning in and out of school. To begin the project, 8th grade students were engaged in a conversation about what school would look like if all of the rules we currently had were disbanded. They were no longer bound by walls, schedules, age restrictions or standardized tests. No technology was outlawed. It was a bit of a hurdle for them...after eight years of the current school arrangement, it was difficult for them to imagine anything else. With a little encouragement and a push they rose to the occasion, and here are the tools they think we ought to consider using. As this is a dynamic site, there may be some entries in need of editing. We will get to them! We left the duplicates in for emphasis as well as different points of view. Enjoy!"

Stage'D! - 2 views

  •
What is Stage'D? Stage'd is a digital toy for creating animated comics. We want to make telling your stories easier. Being big comic and animation nerds ourselves we decided one fateful night to have a go at creating a mash-up. Stage'D is definitely a work-in-progress, but already there's lots of fun to be had. You can pick characters and choose costumes for them. Then you can pick from a library of animations for them to perform, and don't forget to give'em some dialog! Pick some scenery and you officially have a comic, easy as that. All that's left is to share it with the world. When you've saved your comic you can e-mail it to your friends, or just take the link and share it yourself on Facebook, Twitter or anyplace else! "

Twurdy Search - Search for Readable Results - About Twurdy - 1 views

  •
The name "Twurdy" comes from a play on words with the question "Too Wordy?". The philosophy Everyone has different reading abilities. Some people searching the web are university professors and others are 5 year old children. Twurdy has been created to provide people with access to search results that suit their own readability level. What does it do? Twurdy uses text analysis software to "read" each page before it is displayed in the results. Then Twurdy gives each page a readability level. Twurdy then shows the readability level of the page along with a color coded system to help users determine how easy the page will be to understand. The Goal Twurdy's goal is to provide web searchers with information that is most appropriate for them. This will mean that 10 year olds doing school assignments don't have to click through difficult material to find something they can use. It will also mean that phd students do not have to click through websites designed for kids in order to find what they are looking for.

iPads Are Not a Miracle for Children With Autism | GeekDad | Wired.com - 1 views

  •
"I have been working with an organization undertaking an iPad trial to see how it can be used by early childhood intervention professionals. I have worked with non-government and government agencies that have supported children and adults with a disability for more than 10 years and it is exciting to see the potential of the iPad. But, the potential of the iPad is not achieved by the iPad alone, nor by simply placing it in the hands of a child with autism. The potential of the device is realized by the way professionals like speech pathologists, educators, occupational therapists and early childhood development professionals apply their skills and knowledge to use the iPad to effectively support the development of children. The potential is realized by engaged parents working with those professionals to explore how the device best meets the individual needs of their child."

Nintendo Wii Accessible Switch Adapted Game Controls - 0 views

  •
No grasp or finger dexterity required! Get into the game on the Nintendo Wii! Attaches to forearm or hat to play most games with arm or head movement. Operate A & B buttons using adaptive switches with the opposite hand or sip and puff. The Nintendo Wiimote with its ultrasensitive spatial motion sensing and infrared position sensing is truly a unique and amazing piece of technology and offers great potential for therapists to work with clients in a new, FUN way! Much anticipated by many disabled gamers, they hoped it would revolutionize gaming for those with limited dexterity to push little buttons. Unfortunately, with the continued need to push buttons that never materialized. It was a challenge, but by switch adapting the two buttons used in most games, we hope you will enjoy the new possibilities!"
