Ed Tech Steve: "All right, so a Social Studies teacher came to me with an awesome idea today- she wanted her students to create fake Facebook pages of historical figures and wasn't sure how to go about it. We pondered creating Nings with fake profiles, but she needed it quickly and this was something we could whip up on short notice! I decided to do a MS Publisher Template and had too much fun with it not to share. Here is Abe Lincoln's fake Facebook page! I can say this was a good review for me, even- and hopefully the kids will like creating their own from this template! I created a template for a wall as well as a template for just a regular profile. "

"Ever wonder what it would be like if we let our students pick the tools we use in class? This collection of web 2.0 tools is just that- a list of tools and ideas for what students see as being useful for their learning in and out of school. To begin the project, 8th grade students were engaged in a conversation about what school would look like if all of the rules we currently had were disbanded. They were no longer bound by walls, schedules, age restrictions or standardized tests. No technology was outlawed. It was a bit of a hurdle for them...after eight years of the current school arrangement, it was difficult for them to imagine anything else. What is Stage'D? Stage'd is a digital toy for creating animated comics. We want to make telling your stories easier. Being big comic and animation nerds ourselves we decided one fateful night to have a go at creating a mash-up. Stage'D is definitely a work-in-progress, but already there's lots of fun to be had. You can pick characters and choose costumes for them. Then you can pick from a library of animations for them to perform, and don't forget to give'em some dialog! Pick some scenery and you officially have a comic, easy as that. All that's left is to share it with the world. When you've saved your comic you can e-mail it to your friends, or just take the link and share it yourself on Facebook, Twitter or anyplace else! "

The name "Twurdy" comes from a play on words with the question "Too Wordy?". The philosophy Everyone has different reading abilities. Some people searching the web are university professors and others are 5 year old children. Twurdy has been created to provide people with access to search results that suit their own readability level. What does it do? Twurdy uses text analysis software to "read" each page before it is displayed in the results. Then Twurdy gives each page a readability level. Twurdy then shows the readability level of the page along with a color coded system to help users determine how easy the page will be to understand. The Goal Twurdy's goal is to provide web searchers with information that is most appropriate for them. This will mean that 10 year olds doing school assignments don't have to click through difficult material to find something they can use. It will also mean that phd students do not have to click through websites designed for kids in order to find what they are looking for.

I have worked with non-government and government agencies that have supported children and adults with a disability for more than 10 years and it is exciting to see the potential of the iPad. But, the potential of the iPad is not achieved by the iPad alone, nor by simply placing it in the hands of a child with autism. The potential of the device is realized by the way professionals like speech pathologists, educators, occupational therapists and early childhood development professionals apply their skills and knowledge to use the iPad to effectively support the development of children. The potential is realized by engaged parents working with those professionals to explore how the device best meets the individual needs of their child."
