Studying about the Oregon State Capitol but can't afford a field trip to visit? Or, do you live too far away from the Capitol to visit? Then consider touring it via a series of short videos posted on the Oregon State Legislature's website. View 2- to 3-minute video segments labeled Rotunda and Seal, Capitol Marble, Tower and Grounds, Senate Chamber, and House Chamber. There's also an 8-minute video about the Golden Pioneer.

We had been discussing a method to distill a question into its components and turn it into a strong query, the string of words she would type into a search engine to look for her answer. Students have often expressed that it's hard to identify "just the words they need."

Recognizing bias: This 2 ½ minute video uses a pizza restaurant ad to give students a succinct introduction to the concept of bias. It also presents three specific questions students can ask to detect bias in the media and their daily lives. (Social studies, Social responsibility, Literacy)

Curation tool as used in education K-12

Last week, we were delighted to discover that legendary children's author Shel Silverstein, of The Giving Tree fame, was also a prolific songwriter, whose songs were recently - and beautifully - covered by contemporary indie icons.

In first grade we are learning about poetry by playing the paper bag game. I don't tell the students what we are going to be studying for the next few library lessons. Instead I  introduce poetry with a game - The Bulldog Paperbag Game!
