The Medici Archive Project - Florence offers five Short-Term Graduate Fellowships - 0 views

    The Medici Archive Project (MAP) wishes to provide graduate and doctoral students from diverse disciplines with the opportunity to have exposure to original source materials and training in their use. For this reason MAP is offering five short-term fellowships sponsored by the SAMUEL FREEMAN CHARITABLE TRUST (SFCF) for graduate students in any field of the humanities or social sciences who are in the early stages of their dissertation work. The SFCF fellowships have been developed to enable students working on their dissertations to conduct primary research using the Mediceo del Principato and other collections housed in the Archivio di Stato in Florence. This scholarly residence will be of considerable benefit in helping the students to gain the necessary skills, experience and confidence to continue independent academic research in the later stages of their graduate trajectory. While undertaking primary research for their dissertation in the Florentine state archives, the Fellows will benefit from the supervision of the MAP Staff, academics drawn from a variety of disciplines who are experts in archival research, paleography and the digital humanities. The Fellows will also have the opportunity to expand their academic networks through contact with the many international scholars who regularly visit and collaborate with MAP. Finally, Fellows will be enrolled in the annual MAP Archival Studies Seminar. The fellowships last for an uninterrupted period of two-and-a-half months, taking place at any point between 1 January 2014 and 15 July 2014. The SFCT Fellows will undertake their dissertation research on-site in the Archivio di Stato. The candidates will have the following qualifications: a completed M.Phil (or equivalent) in any field of early modern humanities and fluency in English and Italian.

Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

    The Tweedie Exploration Fellowships for Students, or Tweedie Fund, grants financial help for research projects taking place in lesser-known regions of the world. The fund only makes awards to students or other candidates who are not in career-level employment. There are several restrictions on applications to the Tweedie fund: Applicants must have a degree and appropriate experience for any research. Applicants must be unsalaried (i.e. not in career-level employment). Applicants should be looking to undertake ethnological, sociological or linguistic research in lesser-known regions of the world. Particular preference is given to research based in areas of Asia and Northern Africa. Archaeological excavations are specifically excluded from receiving money from the fund.

    THE FELLOWSHIPS:  The American Research Institute in Turkey will offer ARIT fellowships for research in Turkey for the academic year 2014-2015.  Grants for tenures up to one academic year will be considered; some preference, however, is given to projects of shorter duration.  ARIT operates hostel, research, and study facilities for researchers in Turkey at its branch centers in Istanbul and Ankara. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:  Scholars and advanced graduate students engaged in research on ancient, medieval, or modern times in Turkey, in any field of the humanities and social sciences, are eligible to apply.  Student applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation by June 2014, and before beginning any ARIT-sponsored research.  Non-U.S. applicants who reside in the U.S. or Canada are expected to maintain an affiliation with an educational institution in the U.S. or Canada.   Scholars who have completed their formal training may also apply for ARIT fellowships sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities.  For questions of eligibility, please check with the ARIT office in Philadelphia.

    Bringing Theory to Practice Project, an independent project established by the Association of American Colleges and Universities, is accepting proposals from universities and colleges in the United States for projects aimed promoting the nexus of engaged learning, civic engagement, and psychosocial well-being among college and university students. Seminar grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded for projects that bring together diverse members of the campus community to discuss the civic mission of the institution and how the full expression of that mission can be achieved.     The National Science Foundation's Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences (BCS), Division of Social and Economic Sciences (SES), National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES), and the SBE Office of Multidisciplinary Activities (SMA) award grants to doctoral students to improve the quality of dissertation research. These grants provide funds for items not normally available through the student's university. Additionally, these grants allow doctoral students to undertake significant data-gathering projects and to conduct field research in settings away from their campus that would not otherwise be possible. Proposals are judged on the basis of their scientific merit, including the theoretical importance of the research question and the appropriateness of the proposed data and methodology to be used in addressing the question. In an effort to improve the quality of dissertation research, many programs in both BCS and SES, the Research on Science and Technology Surveys and Statistics program within NCSES, and the Science of Science and Innovation Policy program in SMA accept doctoral dissertation improvement grant proposals. Requirements vary across programs, so proposers are advised to consult the relevant program's webpage for specific information and contact the program director if necessary.

    Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.

    The AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence, in partnership with the Association for Institutional Research, is accepting applications for its 2017 Research and Dissertation Fellows Program. The annual competition awards grants to scholars and doctoral students in support of year-long research projects. The program is designed to promote scholarship on issues related to access, affordability, and the value of legal education specifically, and graduate and professional education more broadly. Preference will be given to proposals that use regional, national, or multi-institutional datasets (although research focused on a single institution is acceptable).
