"The World in the City: Metropolitanism and Globalization from the 19th Century to the Present" is the title of the current Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft-funded international and interdisciplinary graduate program, based at the Technische Universität Berlin. (Director Prof. Dr. Dorothee Brantz; Co-Director Prof. Dr. Alexander Nützenadel, HU Berlin.)  The project is a cooperative effort between several Berlin (TU, FU, HU Berlin), New York (Columbia University, Fordham University, New York University, The City University of New York) and Toronto (University of Toronto, York University) universities. In the spring of 2012, 12 graduate students and 2 postdoctoral fellows began their dialogue at the cross-section of historical and interdisciplinary urban studies. While urban researchers primarily define globalization as being a current phenomenon, historians have rarely focused on the role of cities within long-term globalization processes. The IGK hopes to close this research gap and offer a relevant contribution to interdisciplinary urban research within 4 thematic areas (architecture and urban planning; migration and mobility; knowledge and communication; environment and sustainability).

This program supports digitally based research projects in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. It is hoped that projects of successful applicants will help advance digital humanistic scholarship by broadening understanding of its nature and exemplifying the robust infrastructure necessary for creating such works. ACLS Digital Innovation Fellowships are intended to support an academic year dedicated to work on a major scholarly project that takes a digital form. Projects may: Address a consequential scholarly question through new research methods, new ways of representing the knowledge produced by research, or both; Create new digital research resources; Increase the scholarly utility of existing digital resources by developing new means of aggregating, navigating, searching, or analyzing those resources; Propose to analyze and reflect upon the new forms of knowledge creation and representation made possible by the digital transformation of scholarship. ACLS will award up to six Digital Innovation Fellowships in this competition year. Each fellowship carries a stipend of up to $60,000 towards an academic year's leave and provides for project costs of up to $25,000. ACLS does not support creative works (e.g., novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translations, or purely pedagogical projects.

The primary objectives of the STATEMAP component of the NCGMP are to establish the geologic framework of areas determined to be vital to the economic, social, or scientific welfare of individual States. The State Geologist shall determine mapping priorities in consultation with a multi-representational State Mapping Advisory Committee. These priorities shall be based on: a) state requirements for geologic-map information in areas of multiple-issue need or areas of compelling single-issue need, and b) State requirements for geologic-map information in areas where mapping is required to solve critical earth-science problems.

A program of the Bruner Foundation, the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence is a national design award that recognizes transformative urban places distinguished by their economic and social contributions to America's cities. Founded in 1986 by architect Simeon Bruner, the award seeks to promote innovative thinking about the built environment and to advance conversation about making cities better by celebrating and sharing the stories of creative and inspiring urban development (projects).

The Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy was established in 1997 to support the advancement of research and understanding in the major fields of the social sciences, which include psychology, anthropology, sociology, economics, urban affairs, area studies, political science, and other disciplines.
