The U.S. Embassy in Chisinau has supported numerous projects for several years to address domestic and gender-based violence. For example, local nongovernmental organizations received grants from INL to provide training for police officers, prosecutors, and judges on processing criminal cases and better assisting victims. The U.S. Embassy also organized public outreach campaigns to raise awareness about domestic and gender-based violence. To support further progress in Moldova, the U.S. Department of State has allocated $800,000 USD in FY 2017 Rule of Law Funds for a project to establish a Family Justice Center in Moldova. A Family Justice Center (FJC) is a non-residential specialized facility which co-locates inter-disciplinary services in one location for survivors of violence, trauma, and abuse. The United States Department of Justice has recognized Family Justice Centers as a best practice in meeting the needs of domestic violence and sexual assault victims. Congress recognized the importance of the Family Justice Center model by creating a "purpose area" for Family Justice Centers in the Violence against Women Act in 2005. Family Justice Centers now exist in 40 states in the U.S. and in more than 20 countries around the world. The Government of Moldova expressed interest in further cooperation on the development of a pilot Family Justice Center in Moldova.

The 2017 Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index Report indicated that "across Eastern and Southeast Europe, civil society organizations and independent media experienced challenges in their ability to monitor and criticize decision-makers." Moreover, perceived instances of selective justice in Moldova and widespread corruption are widely regarded as key impediments to substantive reform in the criminal justice system that also contribute to low public trust in justice sector institutions. An active civil society plays an important role in protecting fundamental rights by monitoring the local actions of law enforcement entities and justice sector institutions, which can contribute to productive communication and enhance public trust.

The W.E.B. Du Bois Program furthers the Department's mission by advancing knowledge regarding the confluence of crime, justice, and culture in various societal contexts. It supports research on the intersections of race, offending, victimization, and the fair administration of justice for both juveniles and adults. This solicitation seeks investigator-initiated proposals to conduct research on topics linked to race and crime in violence and victimization, crime and prevention, and justice systems (policing, courts, community and institutional corrections). For FY2017, NIJ is particularly interested in research on homicide and other violence in minority communities, and criminal court topics. Funding categories include: 1) W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars who are advanced in their careers; and 2) W.E.B. Du Bois Fellows who are early in their careers.

The Environmental Justice Small Grants (EJSG) Program provides funding directly to community-based organizations for projects that help residents of underserved communities understand and address local environmental and public health issues. For purposes of this announcement, the term "underserved community" refers to a community with environmental justice concerns and/or vulnerable populations, including minority, low income, rural, tribal, indigenous, and homeless populations that may be disproportionately impacted by environmental harms and risks. In general, the EJSG program awards grants that support community-driven projects designed to engage, educate, and empower communities to better understand local environmental and public health issues and develop strategies for addressing those issues, building consensus in the community, and setting community priorities. Community-driven projects are projects that include activities where community residents and/or representatives are integrally involved in the thinking behind and execution of those activities. Therefore, applying organizations should have a direct connection to the underserved community impacted by environmental harms and risks.

The Nathan Cummings Foundation is a multigenerational family foundation, rooted in the Jewish tradition of social justice, working to create a more just, vibrant, sustainable and democratic society through our grantmaking in the United States and Israel. We focus on finding solutions to the two most challenging problems of our time - the climate crisis and growing inequality - and aim to transform the systems and mindsets that hinder progress toward a more sustainable and equitable future for all people, particularly women and people of color.

The Pop Culture Collaborative represents an innovative hub for high impact partnerships and grants designed to help organizations and individuals leverage the reach and power of pop culture for social justice goals. Their 'Pop Up' Rapid Response Grants are designed to support a short-term project developed in connection to a recent or upcoming acute political or cultural time hook, and must be intended to reach an audience of more than a million people or engage artists, producers, and/or organizers that do so. Funded projects must impact, support, or connect with at least one of these community groups: people of color, immigrants, refugees, or Muslims. They can work to support initiatives that build movements, drive campaigns, produce stories, and leverage mass media and entertainment media to drive positive narrative and social change in popular culture. Examples of funded projects include public events and private retreats; tool and resource prototypes; network and partnership building; story, narrative, and strategy design process; and creative content including short film/video, concerts, music recordings, etc. Grants range from $5,000 to $30,000. Requests may be submitted at any time by nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations, and individuals with fiscal sponsorship. The GriffinHarte Foundation promotes civil conversations about issues that divide us and are often contentious and difficult to sort through. These issues usually involve questions of fairness, equity, respect, identity, and the complex ways in which humans are connected to each other. Because the foundation believes that communication is one of the key elements to understanding and working with social differences, it supports and promote conversations, research, and scholarship that are grounded in questions about civility and feminism; informed by a desire to define, explore, and advocate for social, political, and economic justice in professional and personal lives; and centered in an explicit recognition of the ways lives and communication are influenced by identities - gender and sex, race and ethnicity, age and physical abilities, and education and economic standing. In addition, the foundation supports and promotes educational practices and research that are focused on how we teach as well as what we teach; grounded in a commitment to alternative pedagogies and educational practices; and informed by an explicit recognition of the ways identities, genders and sex, feminisms, civility, and civic engagement relate to social, political, and economic justice.

The Tribal Justice Corrections Capacity Building Training and Technical Assistance Program furthers the Department's mission by assisting federally recognized Indian tribes in strengthening their correctional system capacity to provide community supervision and implement reentry strategies to reduce crime, enhance public safety, and facilitate community reintegration efforts for justice-involved individuals.

The Emergent Fund was established after the 2016 election to help move quick resources to communities that were and continue to be under attack by federal policies and priorities - immigrants, women, Muslim and Arab-American communities, Black people, LGBTQ communities, and all people of color. The Fund focuses on grassroots organizing and power building in communities of color who are facing injustice based on racial, ethnic, religious, and other forms of discrimination. Grants are considered for the following: efforts that support emergent strategies that help communities respond to rapidly changing conditions, including resisting new or amplified threats and building power to move a proactive agenda; and efforts seeking long-term social justice and economic justice in a political and social climate that seeks to dismantle such efforts. NIJ seeks investigator-initiated proposals in two funding categories under the W.E.B. Du Bois Program of Research on Crime: (1) Scholars who are advanced in their careers; and (2) Fellows who are early in their careers. The program supports research that places particular emphasis on the intersections of race, crime, violence and the administration of justice within the United States. It furthers the Department’s mission by advancing knowledge regarding issues deemed critical by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Lumina Foundation, in partnership with Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, has announced a request for proposals (RFP) for grants that are designed to support postsecondary institutions that are implementing significant work to advance equity on campus and in the broader community. This one-time investment of $1 million will be used to support colleges and universities that are working to improve their campus climates by providing opportunities for constructive racial dialogue. Four to five grants of up to $100,000 are reserved for colleges and universities that can document their existing comprehensive efforts to advance equity on their campuses and in their communities. Additional grants of up to $25,000 will support colleges and universities that propose significant work to enhance efforts focused on issues related to equity and racial justice on campuses. The National Alliance of Faith and Justice (NAFJ) is committed to raising consciousness and developing strategies common to the NPS â¿¿ through education, training, compassion, and service â¿¿ in addressing some of societyâ¿¿s most pressing social justice issues. NAFJ shares the love of NPS for our nationâ¿¿s natural and cultural inheritance, dedication to its stewardship in perpetuity, and through this work, devotion to perpetuating a civil democratic society. By helping youth and adult populations understand the correlation between history and todayâ¿¿s policies, challenges, and victories, NAFJ is uniquely designed and qualified to serve as a partner to plan and implement educational initiatives that increase the access and use of public lands and historic landmarks by diverse and underrepresented youth for academic enrichment and success.

With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals for basic or applied research and development projects. An NIJ forensic science research and development grant supports a discrete, specified, circumscribed project that will: (1) increase the body of knowledge to guide and inform forensic science policy and practice, or (2) lead to the production of useful material(s), device(s), system(s), or method(s) that have the potential for forensic application. The intent of this program is to direct the findings of basic scientific research; research and development in broader scientific fields applicable to forensic science; and ongoing forensic science research toward the development of highly-discriminating, accurate, reliable, cost-effective, and rapid methods for the identification, analysis, and interpretation of physical evidence for criminal justice purposes. Projects should address the challenges and needs of the forensic science community. The operational needs discussed at NIJ’s FY 2016 Forensic Science TWG meeting may be found on NIJ.gov. Additional research needs of the forensic science community can be found at the Organization of Scientific Area Committees website. While the goals and deliverables of proposed projects do not necessarily need to result in immediate solutions to the posted challenges or needs, they should speak to them and produce knowledge that adds to work towards eventual resolutions.

Cultural competence lays down the foundations for a socially just global consciousness and culturally diverse, respectful worldviews, grown through the development and processing of core values, knowledges, behaviours and actions. Its principles and praxis have germinated through the work of Indigenous and culturally diverse scholars, health professionals, peoples and groups whose work has been based upon a human rights agenda focused on equity and justice.

The Peace Development Fund is committed to supporting organizations and projects that recognize that peace will never be sustained unless it is based on justice and an appreciation of both the diversity and unity of the human family. Our Community Organizing grants are PDF's open door to any and all who wish to apply. Groups should have budgets less than $250,000 and be located in the U.S., Mexico or Haiti. Deadline for this cycle is January 12, 2018 at 5 p.m. PST. Grants are in the $2,500 to $10,000 range, and average $5,000. PDF is particularly interested in receiving applications from new or emerging organizations; efforts that have difficulty securing funds from other sources; community organizations working on climate change issues at the local policy level; groups that have a genesis in Occupy or Movement for Black Lives; collaborative peace initiatives led by women; or issues that are not yet recognized by progressive funders.

CHEJ has a Small Grants Program for grassroots groups working on environmental health and justice issues. Grassroots communities of color, low wealth, rural and urban groups are encouraged to apply.  If you are part of a coalition, each group in the coalition may apply as well as the coalition itself. This grant program will support projects that help groups move toward their goals by building leadership, increasing capacity, or providing training and education.  A priority of CHEJ's Small Grants Program is to help grassroots community groups to build their capacity.  Our program is designed to reach people from low wealth communities and communities of color who are impacted by environmental harms.
