14-611 Integrative Strategies for Understanding Neural and Cognitive Systems - 0 views

  •
This solicitation describes the first phase of a new NSF program to support transformative and integrative research that will accelerate understanding of neural and cognitive systems. NSF seeks exceptional proposals that are bold, potentially risky, and transcend the perspectives and approaches typical of disciplinary research programs. This multi-directorate program is one element of NSF’s broader aim to foster innovation in Cognitive Science and Neuroscience, a multi-year effort that includes NSF’s participation in the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative (http://www.nsf.gov/brain/). For FY 2015, this competition is organized around two research themes: Neuroengineering and Brain-Inspired Concepts and Designs and Individuality and Variation. Within each theme, general advances in theory and methods, technological innovations, educational approaches, enabling research infrastructure, and workforce development are all of significant interest.

Pre-K-8 Preservice Teacher Action Research Grants - 0 views

  •
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is inviting proposals from collaborative action research projects seeking to improve classroom teachers' understanding and teaching of mathematics in pre-K-8 classrooms. Priority will be given to collaborations consisting of university, elementary/middle school teachers, and pre-service teachers from the undergraduate ranks. The research should be designed and implemented with a focus on enhancing the teaching and/or learning of math from pre-K to grade 8. A single grant of up to $3,000 will be awarded. Grant funds should be used to support expenses incurred in planning and carrying out the research. Applicants must be a current full individual or e-member of NCTM or teach at a school with a current NCTM pre-K-8 school membership. The Science of Learning and Augmented Intelligence Program - 0 views

  •
The program supports research addressing learning in individuals and in groups, across a wide range of domains at one or more levels of analysis including: molecular/cellular mechanisms; brain systems; cognitive, affective, and behavioral processes; and social/cultural influences. The program also supports research on augmented intelligence that clearly articulates principled ways in which human approaches to learning and related processes, such as in design, complex decision-making and problem-solving, can be improved through interactions with others, and/or the use of artificial intelligence in technology. These could include ways of using knowledge about human functioning to improve the design of collaborative technologies that have capabilities to learn to adapt to humans. For both aspects of the program, there is special interest in collaborative and collective models of learning and/or intelligence that are supported by the unprecedented speed and scale of technological connectivity. This includes emphasis on how people and technology working together in new ways and at scale can achieve more than either can attain alone. The program also seeks explanations for how the emergent intelligence of groups, organizations, and networks intersects with processes of learning, behavior and cognition in individuals.
