The Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) Program is an annual event sponsored by the Nursing Organizations Alliance (The Alliance) and the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is one of the participating organizations. The next NIWI Program is scheduled to be held March 15-17, 2015, in Arlington, Virginia (across the river from Washington DC). The Alliance sponsors the internship to promote the interests of its member groups through education, research, and health-policy activities. Over the years, more than one thousand nurses have attended NIWI, many of whom have become influential participants in the political process at state and federal levels. Deadline to apply is November 1, 2014.

The goal of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars program is to develop the next generation of national leaders in academic nursing through career development awards for outstanding junior nursing faculty. The program aims to strengthen the academic productivity and overall excellence of nursing schools by providing mentorship, leadership training, and salary and research support to young faculty.

The Pediatric Endocrinology Nursing Society (PENS) Continuing Education Scholarship exists to enable pediatric endocrine nurses to advance their knowledge in the areas of endocrine and growth disorders, endocrine nursing research and current issues in pediatric endocrinology nursing. Scholarship recipients can use these funds for travel, lodging and registration expenses related to the PENS conference.

The AONE Foundation for Nursing Leadership Research and Education offers Research Seed Grants of up to $10,000 to support research projects related to nursing administration practice in the following areas: workforce, work environment, leadership development, technology/informatics, health systems, patient safety and evidence-based management practices.

Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to encourage nurses to contribute to the advancement of nursing through research. Allocation of funds, which is provided by a gift from the Doris Bloch estate, is based on the quality of the proposed research, the future promise of the applicant, and the applicant's research budget. Applications from novice researchers who have received no other national research funds are encouraged and will receive preference for funding, other aspects being equal.

To help advance this mission, ATS is accepting applications for the 2019 ATS Foundation Nursing Research Award. Through the program, a single grant of $8,000 will be awarded to a licensed, registered nurse with a PhD who is interested in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. ATS has a particular interest in proposals that have a high likelihood to advance the understanding of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep, with the goal of preventing these conditions and improving patient outcomes. Presentation by the researcher is expected at an ATS international conference within two years of the completion of his/her research.

The mission of Sigma Theta Tau International is to advance global health and celebrate nursing excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and service. To that end, STTI is accepting applications for its 2017 STTI/Doris Bloch Research Award. Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to encourage nurses to contribute to the advancement of nursing through research.

The American Psychiatric Nursing Foundation (APNF) is pleased to continue the research grants program to enhance scientific contributions advancing the knowledge and practice of psychiatric-mental health nursing. APNF established these awards to seed new investigators who are beginning their research careers and will award up to five (5) individual grants of up to $5,000 per award. As such, priority will be given to investigators who are early in their research trajectories and who have not previously had major intra- or extramural funding.

To fund qualified nephrology nurses' work to translate research into practice in support of developing evidence-based nephrology nursing practice and demonstrating the value of nephrology nursing in improving patient outcomes.

The purpose of the Rose Mary Carroll-Johnson ONS Distinguished Award for Consistent Contribution to Nursing Literature is to recognize an individual who has made consistent and significant contributions to the oncology nursing literature. Nominees for this award will be oncology nurses who have had an impact on the profession, specifically by using the written word to share research findings, describe content basic to the care of patients with cancer, and support the professional development of colleagues.

It is a unique vantage, demanding an intimacy not only with the difficulties-and rewards-of hands-on patient care, but with the challenges presented to patients and their caregivers by economic uncertainty and irresolute public policy.  In response, nurses are leading innovative efforts to improve care in hospitals, homes, clinics and communities-wherever patients are in need. The Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation cultivates nurse leaders, supports nursing research and innovations, and disseminates new models of care-all critical to transforming our health-care system into one that is more patient-centered, accessible, equitable, and affordable; one that delivers the high-quality care patients need and deserve.

To that end, it is inviting applications to its Sigma Global Nursing Research Grant program. Through the program, a single grant of up to $10,000 will be awarded in support of nurse-driven, cross-country research (at least two countries) focused on responses to global health disparities.

The Environment of Elder Care Nursing Research Grant co-sponsored by Hill-Rom will advance the science of nursing through research focused on critical aspects of elder care including clear lungs, no falls, safe skin, patient comfort and ease-of-use. Applications from novice researchers who have received no other national research funds are encouraged. Preference will be given to Sigma Theta Tau International members, other qualifications being equal.

The TriService Nursing Research Program (TSNRP) was founded in 1992 and supports rigorous scientific research studies and evidence-based practice (EBP) projects in the field of military nursing. TSNRP is located within the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) which is authorized by 10 USC 2113(g)(1)(A) to make grants to any nonprofit entity for the purpose of carrying out cooperative enterprises in medical research, medical consultation, and medical education.

Purpose: The Victoria Mock New Investigator Award is to recognize the contributions of new investigators in building a scientific foundation for oncology nursing practice. The award will be presented at the Opening Ceremonies at ONS Congress. The recipient will present his or her research results at the ONS Annual Congress. This award is supported by the ONS Distinguished Nurse Researcher Fund through the ONS Foundation.

The Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation supports nurse-led healthcare innovation and research, with the goal of improving patient care in hospitals, clinics, homes, and communities. Nurses operate at the junction of public policy, medical science, systems-based healthcare delivery, and one-on-one patient care. Drawing on its knowledge of this unique and important role, the foundation believes it has valuable insights with respect to relevant modes of research and alternative models that can lead to more equitable, patient-centered health care. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its Hillman Emergent Innovation Serious Illness and End of Life Emergent Innovation program. Through the program, up to five grants of $50,000 will be awarded in support of pre-evidence or untested innovations that challenge traditional approaches to serious illness and end-of-life care and lead to bold, nursing-driven interventions targeting the unmet needs of vulnerable populations, including the economically disadvantaged, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ people, the homeless, rural populations, and others.

The annual program is designed to support high-quality studies that contribute to the development of the science of nursing education and promote diversity in research topics, as well as investigators who demonstrate rigor and innovative approaches with the potential to advance the field of nursing education research.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to encourage modular budget R01 grant applications from nurse scientists who are currently or were recently supported by an NIH Career Development (K) award. This opportunity is limited to those K awardee nurse scientists who have not yet earned an R01 equivalent award. Through this opportunity, NINR seeks to enhance the transition of nurse scientists to independent investigator status.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages the submission of applications that propose to conduct research that is of high-priority to NCCAM that requires synergistic collaboration between outstanding scientists and the synthesis of multiple research approaches by multi-disciplinary research teams. The Center of Excellence for Research on CAM (CERC) program is designed to support research in which the funding of three or four synergistic, highly meritorious projects as a group offers significant scientific advantages over support of the same projects as individual research grants. Each CERC must consist of, throughout the duration of the award, a minimum of three research projects, focused on basic, mechanistic, and/or translational research questions relevant to the research priorities described in the current NCCAM Strategic Plan.
