Shakespeare in American Communities is a national theater program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest bringing performances and related educational activities to audiences across the country. The program supports high-quality, professional productions of Shakespeare's plays and related educational activities for middle and high school students in underserved schools throughout the United States. Shakespeare in American Communities is building future audiences and inspiring students to become informed theatergoers. The program's national prestige empowers theater companies to leverage new connections in their community with teachers and school districts, civic and state partners, and other funders.

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi (PAS New Delhi) seeks proposals for a project entitled "Strengthening U.S.-India Relations through Jazz." Through this program, the Embassy seeks to celebrate and strengthen the cultural connection between India and the United States through the medium of jazz music. The recipient should be an ensemble and include at least one American musician, with an emphasis on American jazz music that includes traditional jazz music that pays tribute to its African-American roots.

A collaboration between the Miami University Humanities Center and the Miami University Libraries, the Digital Humanities Fellowship program aims to help identify and support digital humanities research.   One successful applicant will receive a $2,000 professional expense budget and substantial technical assistance from Miami University Libraries' Center for Digital Scholarship (CDS). The CDS will commit this staff support to the development of the project over the course of one year.  The nature of support will be based on specific project needs.

Administered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the USArtists International program supports performances by American artists at important cultural festivals and arts marketplaces around the globe. USAI encourages and promotes the vibrant diversity of American artists and creative expression in the performing arts by expanding opportunity and exposure to international audiences, encouraging international cultural exchange, and enhancing the creative and professional development of U.S. based artists by providing connections with presenters, curators, and artists around the world. Grants of up to $15,000 will be awarded to American dance, music, and theater ensembles and solo performers that have been invited to perform at international festivals and/or for performance engagements that represent extraordinary career opportunities anywhere in the world outside the U.S.

The MAP Fund is founded on the principle that exploration drives human progress, no less in art than in science or medicine. MAP supports original live performance projects that embody a spirit of deep inquiry. In particular, MAP is interested in supporting artists that question, disrupt, complicate, and challenge inherited notions of social and cultural hierarchy across the current American landscape. MAP supports projects that address these concerns through the processes of creating and distributing live performance to the public, and/or through the content and themes of the work itself. The program pursues its mission by welcoming applications for aesthetically-diverse, live performance projects that operate in dialogue with the current socio-political climate, and by employing a new group of peer reviewers and panelists each year who are empowered to recommend the projects they believe most align with our goals through a rigorous evaluation process that is moderated by MAP staff. MAP awards $1 million annually to up to 40 projects in the range of $10,000 - $45,000 per grant.

The Thriving Cultures Program supports efforts that provide artists with business training and financial resources that enable them to be, and create, valuable economic assets for their communities. We seek to fund projects that: - Operate business and entrepreneurship training programs for artists and cultural organizations; - Provide financing to artists and artist-centered enterprises (such as financial institutions and resource providers); - Support arts and culture-based programs and services that directly engage and support the people who live and work in the area as a strategy for equitable economic development. These activities may include: 1) Cultural programming; 2) Business incentives that help build the local creative economy; 3) Cross-sector collaborations that yield opportunities for all residents to reap the cultural and economic benefits from neighborhood growth. - Document (both qualitatively and quantitatively) the growth of arts-based, creative industries in neighborhoods; - Identify and share best practices in order to strengthen the field of arts and economic development.

Scholarly Editions and Translations grants support the preparation of editions and translations of pre-existing texts of value to the humanities that are currently inaccessible or available only in inadequate editions or transcriptions. Typically, the texts and documents are significant literary, philosophical, and historical materials; but other types of work, such as musical notation, are also eligible. Projects must be undertaken by at least one editor or translator and one other collaborating scholar. These grants support full-time or part-time activities for periods of one to three years. Applicants should demonstrate familiarity with the best practices recommended by the Association for Documentary Editing or the Modern Language Association Committee on Scholarly Editions. Translation projects should also explain the theory and method adopted for the particular work to be translated. Editions and translations produced with NEH support contain scholarly and critical apparatus appropriate to their subject matter and format. This usually means introductions and annotations that provide essential information about a text's form, transmission, and historical and intellectual context. Proposals for editions of foreign language materials in the original language are eligible for funding, as well as proposals for editions of translated materials.

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is seeking to enter into a Cooperative Agreement with a U.S. Regional Arts Organization (RAO) that will administer the 2019-2020 cycle of the NEA Big Read program. The NEA Big Read is a community reading program that broadens our understanding of the world, communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. The program annually supports approximately 75 community reading programs, each designed around a single NEA Big Read book selection. Each participating community organization: selects a book from the available titles for the entire community to read and celebrate over a 4-6 week time period; presents a series of public events about the featured book, such as book group discussions, readings, and media and arts programs; promotes participation in the program; and reports on the type and number of participants at events. Community programs each receive an NEA Big Read subgrant-ranging from $5,000 to $15,000-to undertake these activities and are provided with resources to support project programming.

Founded in 1956, the Chicago-based Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts provides project-based grants to individuals and organizations and produces public programs to foster the development and exchange of diverse and challenging ideas about architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society. Projects may be drawn from the various fields of inquiry supported by the foundation, including architectural history, theory, and criticism; design; engineering; landscape architecture; urban planning; urban studies; the visual arts; and other related fields. The foundation offers Carter Manny awards in two categories, including a research award for a student at the research stage of the doctoral dissertation and a writing award for a student at the writing stage of the doctoral dissertation. The research award is acknowledged with up to $15,000 and the writing award is acknowledged with up to $20,000. Ph.D. students who are presently candidates for a doctoral degree are eligible to apply. Students must be nominated by their department to apply for the Carter Manny Award. The award is open to students officially enrolled in schools in the U.S. and Canada, regardless of citizenship. The foundation will begin accepting applications on September 15, 2017. Applications must be received no later than November 15, 2017.

Papers are solicited for the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) conference to be held June 1-3, 2018, at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.  Papers are especially encouraged on topics related to Jewish history and culture in the Baltics.  Graduate students are encouraged to submit proposals.  Travel grants are available.  Deadline for proposals is October 15. 

Founded in 1962, the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music is dedicated to promoting understanding of the life and works of composers Kurt Weill and Marc Blitzstein and preserving the legacies of Weill and his wife, actress-singer Lotte Lenya. Since 1984, the foundation has awarded more than five hundred grants totaling $3 million to organizations and scholars worldwide in support of excellence in the presentation and study of Kurt Weill's compositions. In 2013, the Blitzstein catalogue joined the list of works eligible for support. The foundation awards grants to individuals and nonprofit organizations for performances of musical works by Weill and Blitzstein, for scholarly research pertaining to Weill, Lenya, Marc Blitzstein, and for relevant educational initiatives. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for projects and performances taking place on or after January 1, 2018, and before June 30, 2019.

California Documentary Project, a competitive grants program that supports documentary film, radio, and new media productions designed to enhance an understanding of California and its cultures, peoples, and histories. Projects must use the humanities to provide context, depth, and perspective and be suitable for California and national audiences through broadcast and/or distribution. CDP grants support projects at the research and development, production, and public engagement stages.

Established in 1975, the ASCAP Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the music talent of tomorrow, preserving the legacy of the past, and sustaining the creative incentive for today's creators through a variety of educational, professional, and humanitarian programs and activities serving the entire music community. To that end, the foundation, in partnership with the Herb Alpert Foundation, is accepting applications to its Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Awards, a program designed to encourage talented young jazz composers. To be considered, applicants must submit an original score or chart of one composition accompanied by a CD indicating proper track (if applicable). Winning submissions will receive a cash prize to be shared equally among the co-writers of the musical work or composition. To be eligible, applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or enrolled as a student in the U.S. and have a student visa. In addition, applicants must be under the age of 30 as of December 31, 2017.

With the help of tens of thousands of donors, ArtsWave supports the work of more than a hundred arts organizations making an impact in the greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky metro region. To advance this mission, ArtsWave is accepting applications to its Neighborhood Arts and Festivals Grant Program, which supports recurring neighborhood-based arts events that increase the variety and frequency of arts experiences in neighborhoods throughout the region and create an environment where all members of the neighborhood feel welcome. The program provides funding for recurring neighborhood-based arts or cultural heritage events. Neighborhoods are defined as places that people feel related to and where they have relationships with each other. Recurring events are defined as a specific, connected set of planned activities that are held on a regular or semi-regular basis. Recurring events with multiple components must show that there is a cohesive theme that ties the components together.

Based on funding availability, the proposed grant will support two annual international women's film festivals featuring films from Afghanistan and around the world. To qualify for submission, films should address women's lives and the issues confronting them, or their producers or directors should be women. The proposed festivals will provide talented Afghan professionals in cinema with an opportunity to engage with their international counterparts, celebrate and elevate women's roles and representation in film, mobilize public opinion regarding violations of women's rights, and provide a platform for young filmmakers to share their stories of Afghanistan with an international audience. The festivals will provide an artistic platform for the presentation of work by and about women and will include panel discussions with actors and directors, workshops, and cultural performances. PAS intends to issue an award for a period of 24 months (base period) with an option for one additional 12-month period (option period one).

The Sparkplug Foundation primarily provides grants to start-up nonprofit organizations or new projects of established nonprofits that are addressing the fields of music, education, and community organizing. In the Music category, the Foundation supports emerging professional musicians or music-development programs. In Education and Teaching, the Foundation funds projects that deal with "the whole student" and with learning as a community activity. Through Community Organizing, the Foundation encourages activist strategies for addressing institutional injustices and for building a just society. The current focus is on ground-level community organizing at the intersection of utilities and energy infrastructure, housing and community resources, and racial justice. The Foundation also provides limited support for projects in Israel that involve Palestinian communities. The Course Hero-Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching will support rising stars in the academy who love teaching, demonstrate excellence as educators, and are making their mark as exceptional researchers, poised to shape their fields. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.
