The Sparkplug Foundation primarily provides grants to start-up nonprofit organizations or new projects of established nonprofits that are addressing the fields of music, education, and community organizing. In the Music category, the Foundation supports emerging professional musicians or music-development programs. In Education and Teaching, the Foundation funds projects that deal with "the whole student" and with learning as a community activity. Through Community Organizing, the Foundation encourages activist strategies for addressing institutional injustices and for building a just society. The current focus is on ground-level community organizing at the intersection of utilities and energy infrastructure, housing and community resources, and racial justice. The Foundation also provides limited support for projects in Israel that involve Palestinian communities. he Jubilation Foundation, a component fund of the Tides Foundation, helps individual and organizations with an exceptional talent for helping young people feel fully alive through rhythm, as expressed in music and dance. 1) Individuals Fellowships: Two-year fellowships of up to $5,000 will be awarded to those who "serve as a link to a world filled with more joy." Applicants must reside in the United States to be eligible. (Deadline: January 15, 2019) 2) Organizations: Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to nonprofit music and dance organizations in Washington and Oregon that work with children under 18 (the younger the better); involve experts working and playing with non-experts; work toward synchrony and inclusion; overcome barriers related to race and class, building community, link diverse groups, creating a ripple effect; and/or create foot stomping public performances in a party-like atmosphere. (Deadline: July 15, 2019) The Foundation does not fund professional performances where students are the audience; programs for religious purposes; theatrical productions without a commitment to joyful rhythm and movement; programs that require auditions; and programs where mastery is the goal. Founded in 1956, the Chicago-based Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts provides project-based grants to individuals and organizations and produces public programs to foster the development and exchange of diverse and challenging ideas about architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society. Projects may be drawn from the various fields of inquiry supported by the Foundation, including architectural history, theory, and criticism; design; engineering; landscape architecture; urban planning; urban studies; the visual arts; and other related fields. The Foundation offers Carter Manny awards in two categories, including a research award for a student at the research stage of the doctoral dissertation and a writing award for a student at the writing stage of the doctoral dissertation. The research award is acknowledged with up to $15,000 and the writing award is acknowledged with up to $20,000. Ph.D. students who are presently candidates for a doctoral degree are eligible to apply. Students must be nominated by their department to apply for the Carter Manny Award. The award is open to students officially enrolled in schools in the U.S. and Canada, regardless of citizenship. The Foundation will begin accepting applications on September 15, 2017. Applications must be received no later than November 15, 2017.

To that end, the Foundation is accepting applications for projects and performances taking place on or after January 1, 2019, and before July 1, 2020. To that end, the Foundation is accepting applications for projects and performances taking place on or after January 1, 2018, and before June 30, 2019.

Established in 1975, the ASCAP Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the music talent of tomorrow, preserving the legacy of the past, and sustaining the creative incentive for today's creators through a variety of educational, professional, and humanitarian programs and activities serving the entire music community. To that end, the Foundation, in partnership with the Herb Alpert Foundation, is accepting applications to its Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Awards, a program designed to encourage talented young jazz composers. To be considered, applicants must submit an original score or chart of one composition accompanied by a CD indicating proper track (if applicable). Winning submissions will receive a cash prize to be shared equally among the co-writers of the musical work or composition. To be eligible, applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or enrolled as a student in the U.S. and have a student visa. In addition, applicants must be under the age of 30 as of December 31, 2017.

The principal goal of The Shubert Foundation is to support not-for-profit, professional theatre and dance companies in the United States. The program areas of Arts Related Organizations and Education are smaller than those of Theatre and Dance and necessarily limited. The Shubert Foundation awards unrestricted grants for general operating support, rather than funding for specific projects. These grants are awarded exclusively to US organizations, which must have current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in order to be eligible for funding. The Foundation provides grants only to organizations that have an established artistic and administrative track record, as well as a history of fiscal responsibility. The Foundation does not make grants to individuals, nor does it provide funds for project support, audience development, direct subsidy of reduced-price admissions, conduit organizations (agencies that disburse funds to individuals or other organizations), renovation projects, loans, capital or endowment campaigns.

As part of this mission, the foundation is accepting applications from presenters, festivals, music service organizations and any other applicants that are not performing ensembles for general operating or special project support. In 2018, support will be given to projects that are initiated between September 2018 and August 2019. Under extraordinary circumstances, the foundation will consider projects that fall outside that period.

Since 1965, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Workshop Foundation has fostered, promoted, and developed the creativity and craft of stage directors and choreographers. SDC provides opportunities to practice the crafts of directing and choreography; gathers and disseminates craft and career information; promotes the profession to emerging talent; provides opportunities for exchange of knowledge among directors and choreographers; increases the awareness of the value of directors' and choreographers' work; and convenes around issues affecting theater artists. To that end, the Foundation currently is accepting applications for its Observership Program. The program provides early- to mid-career directors and choreographers paid opportunities to observe the work of master directors and choreographers as they create productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and at leading regional theaters across the country. SDCF Observers may have access to the entire rehearsal process, from first rehearsal through opening night, and will observe first-hand the techniques, disciplines, approaches, and insights of master artists as they create new productions and revive classics.

As part of this mission, the foundation is accepting applications from nonprofit performing ensembles for general operating support or special project support. For the 2019 funding cycle, support will be given to projects that take place between September 2019 and August 2020. (The foundation will only consider projects that fall outside that window under extraordinary circumstances.) In general, grants will range between $1,000 and $7,500, although larger grants may be awarded to larger performing organizations with an extraordinary commitment to contemporary concert music or a particularly significant project. To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit amateur choral ensemble or youth choir performing contemporary classical music at an exceptionally high artistic level.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Arts Award enables students or recent alumni with exceptional artistic or creative promise and financial need to pursue up to three years of study at an accredited graduate institution in the US or abroad.  Awards can be as much as $50,000 annually.  In 2014, the Foundation will select up to 20 recipients for this award. The award provides funding for tuition, room and board, required fees, and books.  Scholarship amounts vary based on several factors, including cost at the institution each recipient attends and other grants and scholarships the student receives. 

Southern Exposure is a national initiative designed to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of the richness and diversity of Latin American cultures through the work of its contemporary and traditional performing artists. The program supports tours that are collaboratively developed by presenting organizations across the United States.  The touring projects include public performances and activities that provide the public with direct interaction with the visiting artists.  An emphasis is placed on funding engagements in communities that have little access to this type of work. Southern Exposure is a partnership of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation. This new approach allows us to leverage the grant-making expertise of ArtsMemphis while ensuring we continue to make a significant impact in the community. The D'Addario Foundation is a unique non-profit grant-making organization providing monetary and product support to high-quality sustainable music instruction programs on the frontline to improve access to music education. We support programs that bring music back into communities and schools and get kids playing as early and as frequently as possible. The D'Addario Foundation believes in the transformative power of music and that mentoring and building communities through music can positively affect social change.

The Japan Foundation New York office (JFNY) accepts applications from non-profit organizations for projects that take place within the 37 states east of the Rocky Mountains, plus Washington D.C., listed below for the JFNY Grant for Arts & Culture on a rolling basis throughout the year. This grant aims to support projects that will further understanding of Japanese arts and culture. Successful projects are granted up to $5,000. This grant also supports online projects related to Arts & Cultural Exchange that incorporate issues pertaining to the COVID-19 global pandemic such as virtual exhibitions, virtual performances, film streaming, online conference as well as webinar. Priority will be given to those projects that have secured additional funding from sources other than the Japan Foundation.

The Foundation awards travel grants to individual scholars to support historical research on Venice and the former Venetian empire, and for the study of contemporary Venetian society and culture. Disciplines of the humanities and social sciences are eligible areas of study, including (but not limited to) archaeology, architecture, art, bibliography, economics, history, history of science, law, literature, music, political science, religion, and theater.One of the Venetian Research Program grants awarded will be designated as the Henry A. Millon Award in Art and Architectural History. Applicants and grantees are advised to plan for the added difficulties surrounding travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are restrictions on both international and domestic travel. Additionally, access to archives and other research institutions can be difficult to ascertain and continue to change. Grantees should consult the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control, World Health Organization and the Italian health authorities when planning their travel and research. To support scholars, the Foundation has lengthened the grant period to a two-year timeframe. Grantees will be able to adjust their travel plans and submit an updated itinerary. Each will be asked to confirm the accessibility of their research sites. Grant payments will be provided close to each scholar's research period. We hope that this added flexibility will allow scholars to stay safe while moving forward with their important work.

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) Observership Program grants emerging Directors and Choreographers 25 paid opportunities to observe the work of master Directors and Choreographers as they create productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway and at leading regional theatres across the country.  SDCF Observers have access to the entire rehearsal process, from first rehearsal through previews to opening night.  Observers are guaranteed the invaluable opportunity to observe, first-hand, the techniques, disciplines, approaches and insights of master artists as they create new productions and revive classics.  The exact nature of each Observership varies depending on the needs and desires of the master Director or Choreographer.

The Levitt AMP Music Series was created in 2014 by the Levitt Foundation, a pioneer in the creative placemaking movement. Levitt AMP brings the joy of free, live music to people of all ages and backgrounds living in small to mid-sized towns and cities, transforming neglected public spaces into thriving community destinations.

The Classics for Kids Foundation empowers young people to shape their futures through music, helps build sustainable stringed instrument music programs, and provides grants for the purchase of high-quality instruments. To that end, matching grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to schools or nonprofit organizations that incorporate fine instruments in their music programs. To be eligible, public or private schools and nonprofit organizations must demonstrate need and a commitment to raising matching funds. The foundation currently is accepting applications for grants to support projects that encourage education about and the performance of women's barbershop vocal music. Grant amounts will be determined on a project-by-project basis.
