1) Scientific Research Program: Scientific research grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to organizations and individuals working to research the impact of music on the human condition. Examples include the study of the effects of music on mood, cognition, and healing; the medical and occupational well-being of music professionals; and the creative process underlying music. Priority will be given to projects with strong methodological design as well those designed to address an important research question. 2) Archiving and Preservation Program: This category support the efforts of organizations and individuals working to advance the archiving and preservation of the music and recorded sound heritage of the Americas. The archiving and preservation area has two funding categories - preservation implementation (grants of up to $20,000) and planning, assessment, and/or consultation (grants of up to $5,000).

The American Academy in Rome invites applications for the Rome Prize competition. One of leading overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and the humanities. The Academy offers up to thirty fellowships for periods ranging from six months to two years. Rome Prize winners reside at the academy's eleven-acre center in Rome and receive room and board, a private study or studio, and a stipend. Fellowships are awarded in the following fields: -Architecture -Design (including graphic, fashion, interior, lighting, and set design, engineering, urban planning, and other related design fields) -Historic Preservation and Conservation (including architectural design, public policy, and the conservation of works of art) -Landscape Architecture -Literature (** by nomination only) -Musical composition -Visual Arts -Ancient Studies -Medieval Studies -Renaissance and Early Modern Studies -Modern Italian Studies For further information, or to apply, visit the Academy's website at www.aarome.org. The Indian Arts Research Center at the School for Advanced Research offers three artist-in-residence fellowships annually to advance the work of mature and emerging Native artists. Each fellowship includes a monthly stipend, housing, studio space, a supplies allowance, and travel reimbursement to and from SAR. These fellowships provide time for artists to explore new avenues of creativity, grapple with new ideas that they can integrate into their work, and strengthen existing talents. 1) Ron and Susan Dubin Native Artist Fellowship: Dedicated to supporting traditional Native artistry, the fellowship period runs from June 15 to August 15, 2019. 2) Rollin and Mary Ella King Native Artist Fellowship: The King Fellowship is dedicated to preserving the Southwest's rich artistic heritage. Applicants must be from a Native community in the Southwestern United States (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah) and work in the visual arts. The residency period runs from September 1 to December 1, 2019. 3) Eric and Barbara Dobkin Native Artist Fellowship for Women: The Dobkin Fellowship encourages the creativity and growth of indigenous women artists working in any media. The residency period runs from March 1 to May 31, 2019.

The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, Austin advances understanding of the humanities for a broad and diverse audience through the preservation and sharing of its extraordinary collections, providing unique insight into the creative process of writers and artists and deepening our understanding and appreciation of literature, photography, film, art, and the performing arts.

Founded in 1962, the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music is dedicated to promoting understanding of the life and works of composers Kurt Weill (1900-1950) and Marc Blitzstein (1905-1963) and preserving the legacies of Weill and his wife, actress-singer Lotte Lenya (1898-1981). The foundation awards grants to individuals and nonprofit organizations for performances of musical works by Weill and Blitzstein; for scholarly research pertaining to Weill, Lenya, Marc Blitzstein; and for relevant educational initiatives. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for projects and performances taking place on or after January 1, 2019, and before July 1, 2020. With funding generously provided by The Recording Academy, the GRAMMY Museum Grants Program awards grants each year to organizations and individuals to support efforts that advance the archiving and preservation of the music and recorded sound heritage of North America, and research projects related to the impact of music on the human condition.

Since 1984, the foundation has awarded more than five hundred grants totaling $3 million to organizations and scholars worldwide in support of excellence in the presentation and study of Kurt Weill's compositions. In 2013, the Blitzstein catalogue joined the list of works eligible for support. The foundation awards grants to individuals and nonprofit organizations for performances of musical works by Weill and Blitzstein, for scholarly research pertaining to Weill, Lenya, Marc Blitzstein, and for relevant educational initiatives. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for projects and performances taking place on or after January 1, 2018, and before June 30, 2019.

Established in 1975, the ASCAP Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the music talent of tomorrow, preserving the legacy of the past, and sustaining the creative incentive for today's creators through a variety of educational, professional, and humanitarian programs and activities serving the entire music community. To that end, the foundation, in partnership with the Herb Alpert Foundation, is accepting applications to its Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Awards, a program designed to encourage talented young jazz composers. To be considered, applicants must submit an original score or chart of one composition accompanied by a CD indicating proper track (if applicable). Winning submissions will receive a cash prize to be shared equally among the co-writers of the musical work or composition. To be eligible, applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or enrolled as a student in the U.S. and have a student visa. In addition, applicants must be under the age of 30 as of December 31, 2017.

The Classics for Kids Foundation empowers young people to shape their futures through music, helps build sustainable stringed instrument music programs, and provides grants for the purchase of high-quality instruments. To that end, matching grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to schools or nonprofit organizations that incorporate fine instruments in their music programs. To be eligible, public or private schools and nonprofit organizations must demonstrate need and a commitment to raising matching funds.
