    This announcement solicits applications for Mental Health Service Expansion ¿ Behavioral Health Integration (BHI).  The goal of the fiscal year (FY) 2014 BHI funding is to increase the coordination, collaboration, and integration of primary and behavioral health care services[1] at existing health centers funded under Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act.  Specifically, this funding opportunity will: Increase access to behavioral health services, and Increase the number of health centers with integrated primary care and behavioral health models of care. Applicants must demonstrate a high level of need for behavioral health services in their community/target population, a sound proposal to meet this need, and readiness to rapidly implement the proposal.  In addition, applicants must show that BHI grant funds will increase access to comprehensive, culturally competent, collaborative, and integrated behavioral health services.  Applicants are expected to explain how services will be made available to all individuals in the service area while maximizing collaboration with existing behavioral health providers in the community. [1]For the purpose of this funding opportunity, behavioral health includes both substance use and mental health disorders.

The DD Act of 2000 identifies a number of significant findings, including: Disability is a natural part of the human experience that does not diminish the right of individuals with developmental disabilities to enjoy the opportunity for independence, productivity, integration and inclusion into the community. Individuals whose disabilities occur during their developmental period frequently have severe disabilities that are likely to continue indefinitely. Individuals with developmental disabilities often require lifelong specialized services and assistance, provided in a coordinated and culturally competent manner by many agencies, professionals, advocates, community representatives and others to eliminate barriers and to meet the needs of such individuals and their families. The DD Act of 2000 also promotes the best practices and policies presented below: Individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with the most severe developmental disabilities, are capable of achieving independence, productivity, integration and inclusion into the community, and often require the provision of services, supports and other assistance to achieve such.     The Science of Science & Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program supports research designed to advance the scientific basis of science and innovation policy. Research funded by the program thus develops, improves and expands models, analytical tools, data and metrics that can be applied in the science policy decision making process. 2015 Campus Suicide Prevention Grant - 0 views

    The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2015 Campus Suicide Prevention grants. The purpose of this program is to facilitate a comprehensive public health approach to prevent suicide in institutions of higher education. The grant is designed to assist colleges and universities in building essential capacity and infrastructure to support expanded efforts to promote wellness and help-seeking of all students. Additionally, this grant will offer outreach to vulnerable students, including those experiencing substance abuse and mental health problems who are at greater risk for suicide and suicide attempts. The Campus Suicide Prevention grant supports a wide range of program activities and prevention strategies to build and sustain a foundation for mental health promotion, suicide prevention, substance abuse prevention and other prevention activities such as interpersonal violence and by-stander interventions. As an Infrastructure Development grant, funds cannot be used to pay for direct traditional mental health and substance abuse treatment services such as therapy, counseling, and medication management. The Campus Suicide Prevention Grant program seeks to address behavioral health disparities among racial, ethnic, sexual and gender minorities by encouraging the implementation of strategies to decrease the differences in access, service use and outcomes among the racial and ethnic minority populations served. Increasing the Implementation of Evidence-Based Cancer Survivorship Interventions to In... - 0 views

    A cancer survivor is a person diagnosed with cancer, from the time of diagnosis throughout the person’s lifespan. As of 2008, nearly 12 million cancer survivors were living in the United States; this number is expected to increase to 18 million in 2020. Cancer survivors have long-term adverse physical and psychosocial effects from their diagnosis and treatment, and have a greater risk for additional cancer diagnoses compared with persons without a cancer history. Cancer survivors commonly report negative behavioral, medical, and health care access issues that may contribute to poor long-term medical and psychosocial outcomes. An analysis of over 45,000 U.S. cancer survivors showed that: 1) 15% of cancer survivors continue to use tobacco; 2) 20-25% do not receive recommended cancer screenings; 3) 31% do not engage in any leisure time physical activity; 4) 40 to 50% do not receive flu or pneumonia vaccines; 5) 60% do not have a summary of their cancer treatment; and 6) 25% do not have any instructions (written or oral) for their treatment or follow-up care . CDC’s National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (NCCCP) supports collaborative cancer control and prevention efforts in all states, the District of Columbia, tribal organizations, territories, and Pacific Island jurisdictions to address the cancer burden in their jurisdictions. In 2010, NCCCP developed six priorities areas of focus for the greatest public health impact; one of the six priorities is to address the public health needs of cancer survivors. The purpose of this FOA is to implement a broad set of evidence-based survivorship strategies in a subset of NCCCP grantees that will have the short-term results of increasing knowledge of cancer survivor needs, increasing survivor knowledge of treatment and follow-up care, and increasing provider knowledge of guidelines pertaining to treatment of cancer.     The Second Chance Act of 2007 (Pub. L. 110-199) provides a comprehensive response to the increasing number of incarcerated adults and juveniles who are released from prison, jail, and juvenile residential facilities and returning to communities. There are currently over 2.2 million individuals serving time in our federal and state prisons, and millions of people cycling through tribal and local jails every year. Ninety-five percent of all people incarcerated today will eventually be released and will return to communities. The coordination of reentry of members of Native American tribes is even more complex given that they can return from federal, Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), state, local, and tribal facilities. The Second Chance Act helps to ensure that the transition individuals make from prison, jail, or juvenile residential facilities to the community is successful and promotes public safety. The Second Chance Act Programs are designed to help communities develop and implement comprehensive and collaborative strategies that address the challenges posed by reentry and recidivism reduction. "Reentry" is not a specific program, but rather a process that starts when an individual is initially incarcerated and ends when he or she has been successfully reintegrated in the community as a law-abiding citizen. The reentry process includes screening and assessment in a pre-release setting, the delivery of evidence-based programming in a pre-release setting, and the delivery of a variety of evidence-based programming for every program participant in a post-release setting designed to ensure that the transition from prison or jail to the community is safe and successful.     This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for an Early Psychosis Intervention Network (EPINET) National Data Coordinating Center (ENDCC) to support and extend the work of regional scientific hubs described in companion announcement RFA-MH-19-150. The ENDCC will lead efforts to (a) harmonize early psychosis common data elements, standard measures, and uniform data collection procedures across multiple early psychosis Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) clinics within regional networks; (b) build informatics infrastructure and pipelines necessary to gather and store de-identified, patient-level data collected across all regional clinics; (c) develop data analysis, presentation, and reporting tools to facilitate timely quality improvement and program evaluation efforts across regional networks; (d) identify innovative CSC assessment, intervention, and quality improvement practices for broad dissemination; and (e) and make national CSC data available for practice-based research to improve early identification, diagnosis, clinical assessment, intervention effectiveness, service delivery and health outcomes in early psychosis. The ENDCC will combine regional datasets into a national repository of early psychosis common data elements, clinical measures, assessment and intervention strategies, and de-identified person-level data from patients receiving CSC services. Data assembled by the ENDCC will facilitate large-scale, practice-based research to improve early identification, diagnosis, clinical assessment, intervention effectiveness, and health outcomes in clinics offering evidence-based care to persons in the early stages of psychotic illness.

Highly affected communities of interest could include counties or cities within states that are burdened with higher than average rates of overdose mortality and opioid-related morbidity, and other complications.  Combined, all the communities participating in a single research site application must demonstrate having experienced at least 150 opioid related overdose fatalities (15% of these fatalities must be from rural communities) and a rate of 25 opioid related overdose fatalities per 100,000 persons or higher in the past year, based on the most recent complete year of data available.

    The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is soliciting cooperative agreement applications with the intention of ultimately funding up to three research sites and one data coordinating center (DCC) to participate in the 'HEALing Communities Study': Developing and Testing an Integrated Approach to Address the Opioid Crisis. The HEALing Communities Study will test the immediate impact of implementing an integrated set of evidence-based interventions across healthcare, behavioral health, justice, and other community-based settings to prevent and treat opioid misuse and Opioid Use Disorders (OUD) within highly affected communities. Highly affected communities of interest could include counties or cities within states that are burdened with higher than average rates of overdose mortality and opioid-related morbidity, and other complications. Combined, all the communities participating in a single research site application must demonstrate having experienced at least 150 opioid related overdose fatalities in the past year, based on the most recent complete year of data available (15% of these deaths must be in rural communities). States within the top third for age-adjusted drug overdose death rates in 2016, (per the Centers for Disease Control) are of special interest. The integrated set of evidence-based prevention and treatment interventions should be designed to achieve the following goals: reduce overdose fatalities, and events; decrease the incidence of OUD; and increase the number of individuals receiving medication-assisted treatment, retained in treatment beyond 6 months, and receiving recovery support services compared to baseline.

    Founded in 1972, the Tourette Association of America has emerged as the premier national nonprofit organization working to make life better for all people affected by Tourette and tic disorders. The association advances its work by raising public awareness and fostering social acceptance; working to advance scientific understanding, treatment options, and care; educating professionals to better serve the needs of children, adults, and families challenged by Tourette and tic disorders; advocating for public policies and services that promote positive school, work, and social environments; providing help, hope, and a supportive community across the nation; and empowering its community to deal with the complexities of this spectrum of disorders. To that end, grants of up to $150,000 over two years will be awarded for basic and clinical studies related to any aspect of Tourette syndrome. The program is seeking applications for SFARI awards from individuals who will conduct bold, imaginative, rigorous, and relevant research. Applications are invited for two categories of grants, including SFARI Pilot Awards and SFARI Pilot Awards. 1) SFARI Pilot Awards: These grants are intended for innovative, high-impact proposals requesting support for small-scale projects or early-stage experiments that will build on preliminary data or a prior track record and lead to competitive applications for funding by SFARI or other organizations. Investigators new to the field of autism are encouraged to apply. The maximum budget is $330,000 (including indirect costs) over two years. 2) SFARI Research Awards: Grants awarded through this category are designed for investigators with demonstrated expertise conducting compelling high-impact research on an experimental hypothesis for which, in most cases, preliminary data have already been gathered. The foundation also will consider projects focused on a central hypothesis where success depends on close collaboration between two or more labs. The initiative expects to fund proposals for a maximum of $975,000 over to three years. all applicants and key collaborators must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and have a faculty position or equivalent at a college, university, medical school, or other research facility.
