The intent of the FY14 PH/TBIRP Community Partners in Mental Health Research Award (CPMHRA) is to address Section 706 by supporting research on the causes, development, and innovative treatment of mental health, substance use disorders, TBI, and suicide prevention in members of the National Guard and Reserves, their family members, and their caregivers. The focus of the CPMHRA is on research only; proposed projects should NOT include other treatment, education, and outreach efforts. Research projects should be carried out by or in collaboration with community partners. Community partners as referenced in Section 706 are private non-profit organizations or institutions that engage in (1) research on the causes, development, and innovative treatment; (2) identifying and disseminating evidence-based treatments; and/or (3) outreach and education for mental health, substance use disorders, TBI, and suicide prevention in members of the National Guard and Reserves, their family members, and their caregivers.

The Society for Military Psychology (Division 19 of the American Psychological Association) announces its annual competition for Division 19 Student Research Grants. The purpose of the Division 19 Student Research Grant program is to assist graduate/undergraduate students of Psychology with costs associated with conducting research. Up to two (2) Student Research Grants of $1500 each will be awarded in fall 2014. This annual award will be presented to students whose research reflects excellence in military Psychology. The award winner(s) may request up to $750 in dedicated travel funds to aid with APA Convention attendance. While it is Division 19's goal that Student Research Grant award recipients receive the award at the annual convention and/or present their findings to Division 19 members, APA Convention attendance is not required.

The Science of Science & Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program supports research designed to advance the scientific basis of science and innovation policy. Research funded by the program thus develops, improves and expands models, analytical tools, data and metrics that can be applied in the science policy decision making process. For example, research proposals may develop behavioral and analytical conceptualizations, frameworks or models that have applications across a broad array of SciSIP challenges, including the relationship between broader participation and innovation or creativity. Proposals may also develop methodologies to analyze science and technology data, and to convey the information to a variety of audiences. Researchers are also encouraged to create or improve science and engineering data, metrics and indicators reflecting current discovery, particularly proposals that demonstrate the viability of collecting and analyzing data on knowledge generation and innovation in organizations. Among the many research topics supported are:examinations of the ways in which the contexts, structures and processes of science and engineering research are affected by policy decision, the evaluation of the tangible and intangible returns from investments in science and from investments in research and development, the study of structures and processes that facilitate the development of usable knowledge, theories of creative processes and their transformation into social and economic outcomes, the collection, analysis and visualization of new data describing the scientific and engineering enterprise. The SciSIP program invites the participation of researchers from all of the social, behavioral and economic sciences as well as those working in domain-specific applications such as chemistry, biology, physics, or nanotechnology. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite applications for support of drug abuse doctoral dissertation research.

The annual award is designed to fund the development of creative initiatives that address prevention, early intervention, and/or treatment for mental and behavioral health disorders among college students. The goal of these initiatives is to reduce the risk of mental and behavioral illness and injury among college students and to enhance both individual and community health as a strategy to support student learning. One $3,500 grant will be awarded at the 2015 ACHA annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, in late May 2015.

The broad research agenda includes basic research, as well as clinical studies that will ultimately impact physical and mental health and the quality of life for people with disabilities who are involved with equine-assisted activities/therapies (EAA/T). Basic research collects foundational data used to develop or refine theories. Clinical or applied research tests theories that direct practice or have a direct effect on the persons in the activity or therapy. HHRF exists to fund and support research projects that measure quantitative or qualitative evidence for EAA/T.

his funding opportunity announcement (FOA) supports the development and testing of pragmatic strategies for assessing the quality of the delivery of psychosocial interventions (defined here as provider-delivered behavioral, cognitive, interpersonal or other psychosocial/psychotherapeutic approaches) for the treatment or prevention of mental health disorders.  Specifically, this FOA supports (1) the initial development of pragmatic tools and strategies to assess the quality of delivery of psychosocial interventions and (2) psychometric testing of the assessment strategy to examine the feasibility, reliability, validity, and utility of the approach for prospectively assessing the quality of psychosocial intervention delivery in a practice setting.  The goal is to support the development and testing of assessment tools and strategies that are both psychometrically rigorous (i.e., reliable, valid and strongly predictive of therapy outcomes and associated with other "gold standard" metrics of quality) and pragmatic (i.e., feasible for use in community practice settings and useful for advancing efforts at training, supervision, quality monitoring, and/or quality improvement).

NIJ's New Investigator/Early Career Program provides support for non-tenured assistant professors to conduct applied research on topics relevant to NIJ's Office of Research and Evaluation (ORE) including justice systems, violence and victimization, and/or crime control and prevention. The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that address the needs of Syrians survivors of torture and other gross human rights violations (GHRV), including released political prisoners and their families. Projects should focus on the mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), medical, legal, and human rights documentation sectors, with specific attention focused on issues faced by recently released political prisoners and other Syrian survivors of gross human rights violations.

To that end, the foundation is seeking applications for research focused on the effectiveness of group psychotherapy. Grants of up to $15,000 will be awarded based on the importance of the research to the field, the seniority of the investigators, and the number of research applications received. Funding can be used to support the basic costs of research (e.g., supplies, research equipment, photocopying, postage, computer services, statistical consultation, and research assistant salaries); investigator salaries and travel expenses will not be funded. (Equipment purchased for use with a research project is to be donated to an institution at the completion of the project.)

The National Research Action Plan (NRAP) responding to Executive Order 13625, Improving Access to Mental Health Services for Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families (August 31, 2012), lays out a framework to ensure that Government funding agencies work together to further our knowledge and diagnostic/therapeutic capabilities with regard to post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), TBI, suicide, and related injuries by following longitudinal cohorts of Service members and Veterans. The DoD and VA ORD meet this directive through continued collaboration on and coordination of research efforts in the areas of TBI and PTSD. Additionally, recommendations from the DoD Blast Injury Research Program Coordinating Office's November 2015 International State of the Science Meeting (Does Repeated Blast- Related Trauma Contribute to the Development of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)?) included pursuing longitudinal studies to evaluate links between blast-related TBI with CTE. While a number of longitudinal efforts are ongoing, the DoD and VA seek to pursue a mechanism to collaboratively streamline and continue longitudinal studies of mTBI in active duty and Veteran populations. The objective of this effort is to solicit a single Consortium of a large longitudinal study and supporting sub-studies to analyze a large TBI cohort to include Service members, Veterans, and relevant populations.
