Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.

The program's goals are to support psychology's efforts to improve areas of critical need in society, including but not limited to innovative scientifically based clinical work with serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, incarcerated or homeless individuals, children with serious emotional disturbance (SED) and adults with serious mental illness (SMI); and to encourage early career psychologists to devote their careers to under-served populations.

We seek applications from independent investigators who can devote a substantial portion of time to this effort. While we will not require a minimum Principal Investigator (PI) effort, we expect the PI to commit to a level of effort that reflects a leading role in the project. We encourage applications from researchers who are not currently working on autism, but who have expertise that could be brought to bear on this complex disorder. We will also accept collaborative grants involving multiple investigators.

The $20,000 grant supports "exceptional individuals working in the area of serious mental illness," including but not limited to schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and paranoia (delusional disorder). The American Psychological Foundation provides financial support for innovative research and programs that enhance the power of psychology to elevate the human condition and advance human potential both now and in generations to come.

The objective of the Social Behavioral Research Grant is to provide seed monies to junior investigators working on various disciplines of social science examining risk factors affecting lung health including: Psychosocial research Behavioral research Health services and health policy research Epidemiology / Biostatics research Public Health Education research

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) is seeking proposals to provide independent, objective analysis of scientific and technical topics of relevance to the Air Force and national defense. The activity would include refining areas of interest provided by the Air Force into organized, rigorous studies concerning, for many scientific and technical fields, determining the state of the art, projecting trends, utilizing science and technologies for national defense purposes, and identifying promising or necessary areas of additional study. This announcement solicits proposals for up to five (5) years of performance and up to $25M of funding, dependent on the needs of the Air Force and the availability of funding. All proposals must be unclassified, but work under any award may be classified.

The National Research Action Plan (NRAP) responding to Executive Order 13625, Improving Access to Mental Health Services for Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families (August 31, 2012), lays out a framework to ensure that Government funding agencies work together to further our knowledge and diagnostic/therapeutic capabilities with regard to post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), TBI, suicide, and related injuries by following longitudinal cohorts of Service members and Veterans. The DoD and VA ORD meet this directive through continued collaboration on and coordination of research efforts in the areas of TBI and PTSD. Additionally, recommendations from the DoD Blast Injury Research Program Coordinating Office's November 2015 International State of the Science Meeting (Does Repeated Blast- Related Trauma Contribute to the Development of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)?) included pursuing longitudinal studies to evaluate links between blast-related TBI with CTE. While a number of longitudinal efforts are ongoing, the DoD and VA seek to pursue a mechanism to collaboratively streamline and continue longitudinal studies of mTBI in active duty and Veteran populations. The objective of this effort is to solicit a single Consortium of a large longitudinal study and supporting sub-studies to analyze a large TBI cohort to include Service members, Veterans, and relevant populations.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for an Early Psychosis Intervention Network (EPINET) National Data Coordinating Center (ENDCC) to support and extend the work of regional scientific hubs described in companion announcement RFA-MH-19-150. The ENDCC will lead efforts to (a) harmonize early psychosis common data elements, standard measures, and uniform data collection procedures across multiple early psychosis Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) clinics within regional networks; (b) build informatics infrastructure and pipelines necessary to gather and store de-identified, patient-level data collected across all regional clinics; (c) develop data analysis, presentation, and reporting tools to facilitate timely quality improvement and program evaluation efforts across regional networks; (d) identify innovative CSC assessment, intervention, and quality improvement practices for broad dissemination; and (e) and make national CSC data available for practice-based research to improve early identification, diagnosis, clinical assessment, intervention effectiveness, service delivery and health outcomes in early psychosis. The ENDCC will combine regional datasets into a national repository of early psychosis common data elements, clinical measures, assessment and intervention strategies, and de-identified person-level data from patients receiving CSC services. Data assembled by the ENDCC will facilitate large-scale, practice-based research to improve early identification, diagnosis, clinical assessment, intervention effectiveness, and health outcomes in clinics offering evidence-based care to persons in the early stages of psychotic illness.

OMH will support community level suicide prevention studies that address individual, relationship, community, and environmental risk factors for suicide. Priority Populations include American Indians and Alaska Natives, tribes and geographically isolated communities. The initiative will also support implementation of evidence-based interventions to demonstrate the effectiveness of protective factors for suicide prevention. Grantees under this initiative will also publish and disseminate the successful strategies and promising models to AI/AN and geographically isolated communities. The Youth Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Initiative is expected to result in: an increase in protective/resiliency factors among youth; an increased number of youth linked to needed behavioral health/mental health services; a decrease in the number of youth reporting depressive symptoms; and a decrease in suicide risk behaviors among youth. This initiative aligns with HHS Strategic Goal 2: Protect the Health of Americans Where They Live, Learn, Work, and Play.

The mission of the American Psychological Association is to advance the creation, communication, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives. In partnership with the International Union of Psychological Science, APA is inviting applications for the APA-IUPsyS Global Mental Health Fellowship Through the program, one psychologist will be given a unique opportunity to contribute to the work of the World Health Organization (WHO), in the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, providing him/her with exposure to and involvement with global mental health policy and implementation, as well as the opportunity to contribute to the more effective use of psychological knowledge and research in this arena.

Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) is updating the trans-NIH Strategic Plan for Women's Health Research. NIH is publishing this Notice to solicit input from the basic, clinical and translational scientists as well as advocacy and patient communities on topics under consideration for the next strategic plan. ORWH was established in the Office of the NIH Director by the Public Health Service Act to (a) identify projects and multidisciplinary research related to women's health; (b) encourage research on sex differences and promote coordination among research entities; (c) assist NIH efforts to include women as subjects in clinical research; and (d) develop opportunities and support for women in biomedical careers. These efforts will continue to be part of the office's core mission. ORWH is tasked with the development of a trans-NIH strategic plan for women's health research that promotes allocation of NIH resources for conducting and supporting these research efforts across NIH Institutes and Centers.This Request for Information (RFI) seeks feedback on 3 cross-cutting themes and goals under consideration for the next trans-NIH strategic plan for women's health research. These themes will stimulate new research areas, priorities, and approaches to help put science to work for the health of women.

The goals of the annual program are to encourage psychologists to assume a leadership role for psychology in the area of serious mental illness; encourage the training of future psychologists to become leaders in the field; and provide funding for recipients so as to ensure that psychologists work to advance understanding and treatment for those who are affected by serious mental illnesses.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) announces the availability of funds for the fiscal year 2018 Direct Services for Survivors of Torture (DS SOT) grant program. The purpose of the DS SOT program is to increase access to strengths-based, trauma-informed services that assist survivors of torture and their families in the healing and recovery process. Under this grant program, direct services are provided to persons who have been tortured on foreign soil under the color of law. The program offers holistic and integrated services including medical, psychological, legal, and social work. All of these services are provided either directly by the grantee or indirectly through partner organizations or affiliates.

First Nations began investing in Native youth by launching the Native Youth and Culture Fund (NYCF) in 2002 to partner with tribes, Native nonprofit organizations and Native community groups working in rural and reservation-based communities and seeking ways to preserve, strengthen and/or renew Native cultures and traditions among youth. First Nations believes that Native youth represent the future of Native communities, and that their health and well-being determine the future health and well-being of a community overall. By investing in youth and giving them a sense of place and tradition in the community, a community ensures that it will have bright and capable future leaders.

Established in 1931, the Rockwell Fund seeks to promote positive community change in the greater Houston area. To that end, the fund is accepting applications from community-based providers and health centers working to increase the availability of and access to physical and behavioral healthcare for uninsured and underinsured populations; advance an innovative approach to community health; address the social determinants of health; and/or leverage existing resources to expand their reach. For organizations or programs focused on substance abuse, the fund is interested in interventions that target the co-occurring conditions of mental health and substance abuse.

The American Psychological Association works to advance the role of psychological knowledge for the benefit of society by leveraging high-quality research, improving research standards and application, and disseminating knowledge through its networks. To that end, the association currently is accepting applications from early-career psychologists who are researching serious emotional disturbance in children. In partnership with the John and Polly Sparks Foundation, the program seeks to advance science-based research in this area with the potential for broad-scale applicability nationwide. Through the program, APA will support research focused on early interventions as well as treatment. Eligible candidates must have a degree from an accredited university and be no more than ten years postdoctoral.

The John Templeton Foundation works to catalyze discoveries relating to the deepest and most perplexing questions facing humankind and supports research on a wide range of subjects, from complexity, evolution, and emergency to creativity, forgiveness, and free will. In support of this mission, the foundation is accepting applications for its Academic Cross-Training Fellowship. With the intent to help equip recently tenured philosophers and theologians with the skills and knowledge needed to study big questions that require substantive and high-level engagement with empirical science, the fellowship will provide up to $220,000 over three years to support systematic and sustained study in an empirical science such as physics, psychology, biology, genetics, cognitive science, neuroscience, or sociology.

With this solicitation, NIJ seeks applications for funding of multidisciplinary research projects addressing three topics: 1) The impact of fatigue and stress on officer performance. 2) Enhancing strategies for officer interaction with mentally ill individuals. 3) Advancing Resiliency for the Forensic Workforce- Understanding the Impact and Management of Stress, Burnout, and Vicarious Trauma. This solicitation supports the U.S. Department of Justice’s priority of protecting officers and other public safety personnel. This solicitation also supports the following five objectives of the NIJ Safety, Health, and Wellness Strategic Research Plan 2016-2021 (August 2016): 1) Objective I.2: Support development, and promote strategies, policies, practices, and technologies that enhance the safety of criminal justice personnel. 2) Objective I.4: Develop policies, strategies, and technologies to promote safety in criminal justice interactions with the public. 3) Objective II.1: Promote research to improve the physical and mental health of individuals working in the criminal justice system. 4) Objective II.2: Study both trauma and suicide among criminal justice employees. 5) Objective II.4: Promote science-based tools and strategies to monitor physical and mental health.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2018 Statewide Consumer Network Program grants (Short Title: SCN). The purpose of this program is to improve efforts to address the needs of adults with serious mental illness (SMI) by developing and/or expanding peer support services, peer leadership, and peer engagement strategies statewide. The population of focus is adults with SMI, including those who are underserved and under-represented (e.g., consumers from ethnic, racial, and cultural minority groups); veterans; individuals who are chronically homeless; individuals with co-occurring disorders (COD) ; sexual orientation and gender identity minorities; and individuals who have been involved in the criminal justice system. It is expected that this program will increase access to and quality of mental health services for adults with SMI; increase the sustainability of consumer-operated organizations; and enhance state capacity and infrastructure to support the recovery of adults with SMI and their families. The SCN grant program builds upon prior work of SAMHSA to establish recovery-oriented, consumer-driven services for adults with SMI.

: The purpose of this program is to improve access to treatment and support services for youth and young adults, ages 16-25, who have a serious emotional disturbance (SED) or a serious mental illness (SMI), hereafter referred to as serious mental disorders. It is expected that this program will improve emotional and behavioral health functioning so that this population of youth and young adults can maximize their potential to assume adult roles and responsibilities and lead full and productive lives.Youth and young adults with SMI or SED between the ages of 16-25, including those with intellectual developmental disabilities, may not be working, in school, or in vocational and higher education programs. Some face the additional challenge of experiencing homelessness, or being in contact with the juvenile or criminal justice system, thereby increasing the likelihood of admissions to hospitals, mental health, and/or correctional facilities.
