The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA's) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) and Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) are accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2015 Cooperative Agreements to Benefit Homeless Individuals for States (CABHI-States) grants. The purpose of this jointly funded program is to enhance or develop the infrastructure of states and their treatment service systems to increase capacity and provide accessible, effective, comprehensive, coordinated/integrated, and evidence-based treatment services; permanent supportive housing; peer supports; and other recovery support services to: * Individuals who experience chronic homelessness and have substance use disorders, serious mental illnesses (SMI), or co-occurring mental and substance use disorders; and/or * Veterans who experience homelessness/chronic homelessness and have substance use disorders, SMI, or co-occurring mental and substance use disorders. As a result of this program, SAMHSA seeks to: 1) improve statewide strategies to address planning, coordination, and integration of behavioral health and primary care services, and permanent housing to reduce homelessness; 2) increase the number of individuals, residing in permanent housing, who receive behavioral health treatment and recovery support services; and 3) increase the number of individuals placed in permanent housing and enrolled in Medicaid and other mainstream benefits (e.g., Supplemental Security Income/Social Security Disability Insurance [SSI/SSDI], Temporary Assistance for Needy Families [TANF], Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program [SNAP]).

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2018 -Treatment for Individuals with Serious Mental Illness, Serious Emotional Disturbance or Co-Occurring Disorders Experiencing Homelessness (Short Title: Treatment for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness). The purpose of this program is to support the development and/or expansion of the local implementation of an infrastructure that integrates behavioral health treatment and recovery support services for individuals, youth, and families with a serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance or co-occurring disorder (i.e., a serious mental illness [SMI] and substance use disorder [SUD] or a serious emotional disturbance [SED] and SUD who are experiencing homelessness. The goal of this program is to increase capacity and provide accessible, effective, comprehensive, coordinated, integrated, and evidence-based treatment services, peer support and other recovery support services, and linkages to sustainable permanent housing. To achieve this goal, SAMHSA will support three types of activities: (1) integrated behavioral health treatment and other recovery-oriented services; (2) efforts to engage and connect clients to enrollment resources for health insurance, Medicaid, and mainstream benefits (e.g. Supplemental Security Income (SSI)/Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), etc.); and (3) coordination of housing and services that support sustainable permanent housing.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Young Faculty Award (YFA) program aims to identify and engage rising stars in junior faculty positions in academia and equivalent positions at non-profit research institutions and expose them to Department of Defense (DoD) and National Security challenges and needs. In particular, YFA will provide high-impact funding to elite researchers early in their careers to develop innovative new research directions in the context of enabling transformative DoD capabilities. The long-term goal of the program is to develop the next generation of scientists and engineers in the research community who will focus a significant portion of their future careers on DoD and National Security issues. DARPA is particularly interested in identifying outstanding researchers who have previously not been performers on DARPA programs, but the program is open to all qualified applicants with innovative research ideas.

The Army Research Laboratory is in the process of developing a new initiative in the area of Cyber Security. The Society of Pediatric Psychology (SPP) is pleased to announce its Targeted Research Grant program. This annual program was established to fund research projects that will contribute to priority and emerging areas in the field of pediatric psychology, and that will allow investigators to collect pilot data to aid in securing additional major grant funding. For the 2013 award cycle, the priority areas identified are: Technology ( eHealth interventions and information and communication technologies)Health care cost-offset researchPrimary care-focused practice or interventionsStudies of novel measurement/assessment strategies (e.g., validation of new questionnaires focused on patient-reported outcomes)Another novel or emerging research area in the field of pediatric psychology. Applicant must demonstrate or document why this area is novel or emerging. SPP will award up to two grants in the amount of $20,000 each to cover one year of funding to those research proposals demonstrating the greatest merit and potential for success. Although priority will be given to young investigators (within seven years of PhD), investigators at any stage of career are encouraged to apply for this funding. For example, a mid-career researcher who is moving into a new emerging research area would be eligible to apply. Only sole principal investigator (PI) applications will be accepted. DARPA Defense Sciences Office (DSO) wants to identify and pursue high-risk, high-payoff research initiatives across a broad spectrum of science and engineering disciplines and to transform these initiatives into important, radically new, game-changing technologies for U.S. national security. The current overarching office themes include accelerating scientific discovery, exploring fundamental limits, and expecting the unexpected. In support of this mission, the DSO Office-wide BAA invites proposers to submit innovative basic or applied research concepts in one or more of the following technical areas: Mathematics, Modeling and Design; Physical Systems; Human-Machine Systems; and Social Systems. Each of these areas is described below and includes a list of example research topics that highlight several (but not all) potential areas of interest. Proposals must investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances. DSO is explicitly not interested in approaches or technologies that primarily result in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice.

Leidos will match high-scoring, unfunded National Institutes of Health (NIH) proposals with private biomedical foundations and/or industries seeking to fund promising research. Foundations will have access to peer-reviewed research proposals that directly relate to their funding priorities, industry will have access to a rich pipeline of early stage and translational research proposals that align with its priorities, while applicants with strong research proposals will be provided with a second opportunity to secure funding. The foundations, industries, applicants, and NIH all will benefit from this synergy.

The National Science Foundation is announcing its intentions to build upon the success of previous Early Concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGERs) in the area supported by the Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC) program (see solicitation 13-578: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2013/nsf13578/nsf13578.htm) and to accept additional EAGER proposals that encourage novel interdisciplinary research resulting from new collaborations between one or more Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) researchers and one or more Social, Behavioral and Economic Science (SBE) researchers. (Research teams with a history of collaborating together should instead submit directly to the SaTC solicitation.) The proposed research should fit both the Trustworthy Computing (TWC) and the Social, Behavioral and Economic (SBE) Sciences perspectives within the SaTC solicitation.

In 2009, the Children Support Center (CSC) was founded in Kabul, the first center of its kind created to identify and protect Afghan children living in prison with their incarcerated mothers. Since 2011, INL has supported CSCs in Afghanistan and protected over 1300 children of incarcerated women across the country. The CSCs provide comprehensive alternative care that includes safe and secure housing, access to education and tutoring, psychosocial counseling, vocational training, medical services, recreation, exposure to cultural activities, and quarterly prison visits to see their mothers. To continue supporting this integral program, the U.S. Department of State has allocated $950,000 over a three year period for a CSC to protect children of incarcerated Afghan women living in Herat and surrounding provinces.

This program will provide funding to support reentry strategies that address treatment services for youth with co-occurring substance abuse problems and mental health disorders, reentry services for gang-involved youth, and training and technical assistance to improve community supervision practices for juveniles who are placed on probation or are being released from secure confinement. This solicitation will provide grants under the following categories. The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces a Request for Statements of Interest (RSOI) from civil society organizations to promote and protect the human rights of marginalized populations. This request is seeking programs that take an intersectional approach to addressing violence and discrimination targeting marginalized populations, which undermine societys collective security, and programs that provide marginalized populations with tools to prevent, mitigate and recover from violence.
