    This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) supports Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant applications from small business concerns (SBCs) that will develop and/or validate devices or electronic systems that can: 1) monitor biologically- or behaviorally-based processes applicable to mind and body interventions or 2) be used to assist in optimizing the practice or increasing the efficacy of mind and body interventions The applications should: 1) lead to the development of new technologies, 2) adapt existing innovative technologies, devices and/or electronic systems, 3) repurpose existing devices and electronic systems, or 4) conduct testing of single or combined components of an integrated, long term, automated, wearable monitoring, stimulation device or electronic system in order to monitor or enhance the mechanistic processes or functional outcomes of mind and body interventions For the purposes of this FOA, mind and body interventions are defined as non-pharmacological approaches that include mind/brain focused interventions (e.g., meditation, hypnosis), body-based approaches (e.g., acupuncture, massage, spinal manipulation/mobilization), or combined mind and body meditative movement approaches (e.g., yoga, tai-chi, qigong).

    The Mind, Machine and Motor Nexus (M3X) program supports fundamental research at the intersection of mind, machine and motor. A distinguishing characteristic of the program is an integrated treatment of human intent, perception, and behavior in interaction with embodied and intelligent engineered systems and as mediated by motor manipulation. M3X projects should advance the holistic analysis of cognition and of embodiment as present in both human and machine elements. This work will encompass not only how mind interacts with motor function in the manipulation of machines, but also how, in turn, machine response and function may shape and influence both mind and motor function.

    One Mind is inviting applications for its Rising Star Research Awards program, which seeks to fund early-career investigators who have demonstrated productivity and innovation in a scientific field that can be applied to the study of neuropsychiatric disorders such as anxiety, addiction, bipolar disorder, depression, posttraumatic stress, schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury, suicidality, and other serious psychiatric illnesses. To that end, grants of $300,000 over three years will be awarded in support of research proposals on any of a wide range of neuropsychiatric conditions. Studies focusing on bipolar disorder are of special interest, including applications that would advance therapeutics ranging from biomarkers to promising therapeutic modalities (e.g., neurostimulation). Examples of relevant research include those with potential to identify new biological mechanisms and therapeutic targets; develop new or refine existing models and research tools; identify or validate biomarkers; evaluate the effectiveness of therapies, including pharmaceuticals, electroceuticals, digital therapies, or cognitive and behavioral health interventions to prevent the onset of or promote recovery from neuropsychiatric disorders; characterize similarities and differences between two or more neuropsychiatric or neurotraumatic disorders to advance personalized medicine; improve understanding of how comorbid conditions such as cancer and diabetes, as well as other neurological and non-neurological disorders, interact with neuropsychiatric disorders and impact diagnosis, prognosis, and treatments; promote or restore brain health by conducting bi-directional and/or iterative translational research using existing clinical data or new data from small pilot clinical studies in combination with relevant preclinical or computational models; or advance digital health, telehealth, or other innovative approaches to increasing access to mental health care.

    This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), utilizing the U24 grant funding mechanism, encourages applications for a collaborating Data Coordinating Center (DCC) application that accompanies an investigator-initiated multi-site clinical trial (Phase Ill and beyond) application submitted under PAR-18-117 (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-18- 117.html}. The DCC application must be specific to the collaborating Clinical Coordinating Center (CCC) application. The objective of the DCC application is to propose a comprehensive plan that provides overall project coordination, and administrative, data management, and biostatistical support for the proposed clinical trial. Both a DCC application and a corresponding CCC application need to be submitted simultaneously for consideration by NCCIH.
