Arts & Humanities Research Council funding | Royal Holloway, University of London - 0 views

    Students may apply to TECHNE for a doctoral award by submitting a TECHNE  application through Royal Holloway. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 19 February 2014. If you are interested in applying for a TECHNE award, the first step is to speak to a prospective supervisor or the Director of Graduate Studies in the relevant department. It is not possible to submit an application directly to TECHNE: you must apply through one of the member universities. Overseas students are not eligible for AHRC awards, and EU students are eligible for fees only. Two types of studentships are available: Doctoral Awards - circa 35 awards per annum for students who are applying to undertake PhD study.  This includes those who are applying initially as an MPhil student with the intention to upgrade to PhD study. Rates for 2014/15 are  £15,863 for maintenance and £3,996 for fees (three years full-time or part-time equivalen for five years). Students who apply for a TECHNE award will be considered automatically for a College Scholarship. Research Preparation Masters Studentships Three highly competitive studentships are avalable for students who need to develop expertise in a new subject area or to acquire acadmic skills before undertaking a doctorate. Particular consideration will be given to those with substantial experience of practice who need to acquire theoretical skills.  NB it will be necessary to re-apply for a doctoral award.  Rates for 2014/15 are £11,681  for maintenance and £3,796 for fees (full time).  Any difference between College fees and the AHRC fees award is waived. If you think you may be eligible please speak to the Director of Graduate Studies in the relevant department.

Organization for Autism Research - 0 views

    Our Graduate Research Grant Competition offers grant awards of $1,000 for students conducting autism research as a requirement in pursuit of a master's degree and $2,000 for students who are doctoral candidates or post-doctoral students. This competition is a one-step application and review process. The proposals are due in February annually. The RFP sets the specific due date. OAR announces its grant awards in May. International students and students outside the U.S. are eligible to apply. Since 2004, we have awarded 149 grants totaling over $269,970 to graduate students in the U.S. and abroad. We fund studies that will likely produce practical and clearly objective results that may aid parents, families, professionals, and people with autism to make more fully informed choices that will lead to healthier and happier lives. Graham Foundation Carter Manny Awards | - 0 views

    Founded in 1956, the Chicago-based Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts provides project-based grants to individuals and organizations and produces public programs to foster the development and exchange of diverse and challenging ideas about architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society. Projects may be drawn from the various fields of inquiry supported by the foundation, including architectural history, theory, and criticism; design; engineering; landscape architecture; urban planning; urban studies; the visual arts; and other related fields. The foundation offers Carter Manny awards in two categories, including a research award for a student at the research stage of the doctoral dissertation and a writing award for a student at the writing stage of the doctoral dissertation. The research award is acknowledged with up to $15,000 and the writing award is acknowledged with up to $20,000. Ph.D. students who are presently candidates for a doctoral degree are eligible to apply. Students must be nominated by their department to apply for the Carter Manny Award. The award is open to students officially enrolled in schools in the U.S. and Canada, regardless of citizenship. The foundation will begin accepting applications on September 15, 2017. Applications must be received no later than November 15, 2017.

    Humanities Connections grants seek to expand the role of the humanities in the undergraduate curriculum at two- and four-year institutions, offering students in all academic fields new opportunities to develop the intellectual skills and habits of mind that the humanities cultivate. Grant projects focus on connecting the resources and perspectives of the humanities to students' broader educational and professional goals, regardless of their path of study. Through this new grant program, NEH invites proposals that reflect innovative and imaginative approaches to preparing students for their roles as engaged citizens and productive professionals in a rapidly changing and interdependent world. Grants support the development and implementation of an integrated set of courses and student engagement activities focusing on significant humanities content. A common topic, theme, or compelling issue or question must link the courses and activities. The linked courses (a minimum of three) may fulfill general education or core curriculum requirements but could also be designed primarily for students in a particular major or course of study. The Humanities Connections program gives special encouragement to projects that foster collaboration between humanities faculty and their counterparts in the social and natural sciences and pre-service or professional programs in business, engineering, health sciences, law, computer science, and other non-humanities fields.

The Medici Archive Project - Florence offers five Short-Term Graduate Fellowships - 0 views

    The Medici Archive Project (MAP) wishes to provide graduate and doctoral students from diverse disciplines with the opportunity to have exposure to original source materials and training in their use. For this reason MAP is offering five short-term fellowships sponsored by the SAMUEL FREEMAN CHARITABLE TRUST (SFCF) for graduate students in any field of the humanities or social sciences who are in the early stages of their dissertation work. The SFCF fellowships have been developed to enable students working on their dissertations to conduct primary research using the Mediceo del Principato and other collections housed in the Archivio di Stato in Florence. This scholarly residence will be of considerable benefit in helping the students to gain the necessary skills, experience and confidence to continue independent academic research in the later stages of their graduate trajectory. While undertaking primary research for their dissertation in the Florentine state archives, the Fellows will benefit from the supervision of the MAP Staff, academics drawn from a variety of disciplines who are experts in archival research, paleography and the digital humanities. The Fellows will also have the opportunity to expand their academic networks through contact with the many international scholars who regularly visit and collaborate with MAP. Finally, Fellows will be enrolled in the annual MAP Archival Studies Seminar. The fellowships last for an uninterrupted period of two-and-a-half months, taking place at any point between 1 January 2014 and 15 July 2014. The SFCT Fellows will undertake their dissertation research on-site in the Archivio di Stato. The candidates will have the following qualifications: a completed M.Phil (or equivalent) in any field of early modern humanities and fluency in English and Italian.

Karma for Cara Foundation Invites Applications for Youth Service Project Grants | RFPs ... - 0 views

    The Karma for Cara Foundation was established by 21-year-old Cara Becker and her family while Cara was being treated for leukemia. Created in Cara's hospital room, what began as a couple of blood drives grew quickly, and the foundation now supports young citizen leaders nationwide. To that end, the foundation is inviting applications for its micro-grant program. Through the program, grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to students 18 years of age and under to complete a project that benefits their communities. Grants are intended to serve as a bridge between ideas and action, helping young citizen leaders execute and magnify their initiatives to help repair the world. Examples of fundable projects include transforming a vacant lot into a community garden, rebuilding a school playground, or helping senior citizens ready their home for winter. The foundation requests that applicants applying on behalf of an entire class or student group designate a maximum of three student leaders to be the main points of contact for the project. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

Next Generation Humanities PhD Planning Grants - 0 views

    In recent years, research published by Humanities Indicators, among others, has revealed that humanities PhDs pursue careers in many different professions-both inside and outside academia. Yet most humanities PhD programs in the United States still prepare students primarily for tenure-track professor positions at colleges and universities. The increasing shortage of such positions has changed students' expected career outcomes. NEH therefore hopes to assist universities in devising a new model of doctoral education, which can both transform the understanding of what it means to be a humanities scholar and promote the integration of the humanities in the public sphere. Next Generation Humanities PhD Planning Grants support universities in preparing to institute wide-ranging changes in humanities doctoral programs. Humanities knowledge and methods can make an even more substantial impact on society if students are able to translate what they learn in doctoral programs into a multitude of careers. Next Generation Humanities PhD Planning Grants are designed to bring together various important constituencies to discuss and strategize, and then to produce plans that will transform scholarly preparation in the humanities at the doctoral level. Students will be prepared to undertake various kinds of careers, and humanities PhD programs will increase their relevance for the twenty-first century. Grantee institutions must provide funds raised from nonfederal third parties equal to the grant funds released by NEH.

    Applications are invited for a partial studentship on the Buckingham University MA in Decorative Arts and Historic Interiors starting September 2014. Generously funded by the Leche Trust, the bursary, worth £7500, will cover 82% of the course fees for EU students and 55% for international students. Priority will be given to applicants with excellent academic qualifications seeking, or currently pursuing, curatorial careers in museums or the built heritage. The bursary is also open to part-time students currently working in the field, who can take the course as a form of in-service training over two years. This unique one-year MA in French and British Decorative Arts and Historic Interiors provides sounds vocational and academic training, first-hand study of furniture, silver and ceramics in the context of historic interiors, numerous study trips to museums and historic house collections, (including a study week in Paris) and placements in museums and heritage institutions.

    To honor a long-time member and past president of the Society for Reformation Research, the society offers the Miriam Usher Chrisman Travel Fellowship of $2000 every other year in odd-numbered years to doctoral students who need to travel abroad to do research for their dissertations. The award competition is open to all students of European studies, ca. 1450-1650, whose dissertations deal with religion or the Reformation in some significant way. All geographic and confessional concentrations are eligible, and students just beginning their archival research as well as those finishing are encouraged to apply.     The Office of Citizen Exchanges of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announces an open competition for a cooperative agreement to support the exchanges and building of lasting ties between high school students from countries with significant Muslim populations and the people of the United States. The agreement will also fund exchanges for American youth that will immerse them in the cultures of several selected countries with significant Muslim populations while living and attending high schools abroad. Public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) and public institutions may submit proposals for the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Overseas Components to: (1) recruit and select international students from designated countries (referred to herein as "inbound" participants) and American students (referred to herein as "outbound" or "YES Abroad" participants); (2) identify host families and schools and provide programs and support to American participants in approximately thirteen countries overseas; (3) provide orientations to all groups; (4) coordinate travel and logistics; (5) liaise with U.S. embassies and natural families; and (6) provide follow-on alumni programs that promote civil society, leadership, and mutual understanding. Pending the availability of funds, ECA intends to award one cooperative agreement for approximately $17,250,000.

    Deadline is April 15, 2013 for the Hanes Walton Award for Quantitative Methods Training which provides scholarships for recipients to attend the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research at the University of Michigan. Scholarship recipients will receive a waiver of Program Scholar fees to attend the four and/or eight week ICPSR Summer Program. The scholarships are designed to encourage faculty and graduate students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), as well as women and minority graduate students and faculty at other institutions, to attend the Summer Program.     Founded in 1979 in honor of LIFE Magazine photographer W. Eugene Smith, the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund seeks to honor and support documentary photographers who embrace the ideology of the fund's namesake and whose work eschews conventional, mass media-driven work in order to spur dialogue and reveal the multifaceted nature and tenacity of the human spirit.  To that end, the fund is accepting applications for the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography, the W. Eugene Smith Grant for Student Photographers, and the Howard Chapnick Grant. W. Eugene Smith Grant -  Grants of up to $35,000 will be awarded to photographers whose proposed project uses compelling photojournalism to express an issue of concern reflective of the human condition. The W. Eugene Smith Grant for Student Photographers has similar parameters but is designated for current students. A grant of up to $4,000 will be awarded through the program. Howard Chapnick Grant - A grant of up to $5,000 will be awarded to an individual who is not a photographer but instead works in a related field that reinforces the impact of photojournalism (e.g., research, education, photo editing).     THE FELLOWSHIPS:  The American Research Institute in Turkey will offer ARIT fellowships for research in Turkey for the academic year 2014-2015.  Grants for tenures up to one academic year will be considered; some preference, however, is given to projects of shorter duration.  ARIT operates hostel, research, and study facilities for researchers in Turkey at its branch centers in Istanbul and Ankara. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:  Scholars and advanced graduate students engaged in research on ancient, medieval, or modern times in Turkey, in any field of the humanities and social sciences, are eligible to apply.  Student applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation by June 2014, and before beginning any ARIT-sponsored research.  Non-U.S. applicants who reside in the U.S. or Canada are expected to maintain an affiliation with an educational institution in the U.S. or Canada.   Scholars who have completed their formal training may also apply for ARIT fellowships sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities.  For questions of eligibility, please check with the ARIT office in Philadelphia.

This award includes a $500 travel grant to present the paper at PAHA's 2013 Annual Meeting. The candidate for the award must be a graduate student at the time of the application or nomination.
