The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage developmental and exploratory research focused on understanding and addressing disparities in surgical care and outcomes, in minority and health disparity populations. The goal is to better understand and explore effectiveness of clinical intervention approaches for addressing surgical disparities, while employing multi-level strategies at the institutional and systems level.

While the goal is to better understand and explore effectiveness of clinical intervention approaches for addressing surgical disparities, this initiative will also seek to identify multi-level strategies at the institutional and systems level.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage innovative health services research that can directly and demonstrably contribute to the improvement of minority health and/or the reduction of health disparities at the health care system-level as well as within clinical settings.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NCI R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Curriculum or Methods Development. Applications are encouraged that propose innovative, state-of-the-art programs that address the cause, diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, or the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.

The NEI uses UG1 cooperative agreement awards to support investigator-initiated large-scale clinical trials, human gene-transfer and stem cell therapy trials, and other complex or high resource- or safety-risk clinical trials. These projects are multifaceted and of high public health significance requiring clear delineation of study organization including roles and responsibilities and require careful performance oversight and monitoring. For purposes of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the proposed study must be intended to evaluate interventions aimed at screening, diagnosing, preventing, or treating vision disorders, or to compare the effectiveness of two or more established interventions.

The foundation awards grants for research focused on issues faced by care providers that, when implemented, will improve health, nutrition, and/or developmental outcomes for infants and young children. Projects can address the etiologic mechanisms of disease; new, improved, or less invasive diagnostic procedures; the reduction or elimination of side effects; the alleviation of symptoms; new, improved, or less invasive therapies or treatments; dosage or dosing requirements or mechanisms for drugs, nutrient supplementation, or other therapeutic measures (under or overdosing); and preventative measures.

The Communities Building Healthier Environments for a Stronger Nation Initiative ('Communities Initiative') intends to demonstrate the effectiveness of community-based networks in improving health outcomes among racial and ethnic minority and/or other disadvantaged populations. This program seeks to improve health outcomes through the establishment of integrated networks that collaboratively employ evidence-based disease management and preventive health activities; build the capacity of communities to address social determinants and barriers to healthcare access; and increase access to and utilization of preventive health care, medical treatment, and supportive services. The Communities Initiative specifically targets the unmet healthcare and supportive service needs of racial and ethnic minority populations at highest risk for poorer health outcomes. Health services provided under the Communities Initiative will not be denied to any person based on race, color, or national origin. Populations at highest risk include, but are not limited to, individuals who are newly diagnosed and lack a medical home; individuals who experience difficulty in adhering to a prescribed medical treatment plan; individuals with a chronic disease that is not well managed; and individuals that are unstably housed. Specific health areas to be addressed by the Communities Initiative include asthma, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B or C, obesity/overweight, and mental disorders. Community health programs are required to address social determinants of health, and improve coordination of health, social, and supportive services to significantly improve health outcomes among minority and/or disadvantaged communities. AIDS United, in collaboration with the Health Resources and Services Administration's HIV/AIDS Bureau and The Fenway Institute, is offering funding through the Using Evidence-Informed Interventions to Improve Health Outcomes among People Living with HIV initiative. The goal of this initiative is to support the implementation of evidence-informed interventions to reduce HIV-related health disparities and improve health outcomes, including increasing retention in care, improving treatment adherence, and improving viral suppression for people living with HIV. Up to 24 intervention sites will receive $170,000 per year to support the development and implementation of interventions. Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program recipients or subrecipients that operate within the United States or its territories are eligible to apply. Proposals must be submitted by January 22, 2018. HIV+ alcohol users remain at high risk for medication non-adherence and rapid disease progression, medication toxicities, organ failure, and poor viremic control, leading to increased risk of transmission and premature death. Recent advances in technology and biomedical science (e.g., new pharmacological agents, alcohol and inflammation biomarkers, internet and mobile technology) open new opportunities for strengthening the quality of HIV/alcohol-related implementation research through utilization of novel technology and biomarkers. This initiative seeks to advance knowledge on implementation and comparative effectiveness of alcohol-focused interventions among HIV+ individuals. Multiple factors need to be investigated, including potentially important patient and provider characteristics, and the organizational, financial, and structural factors that facilitate or inhibit the delivery of evidence-based services for HIV+ individuals with a range of severity of alcohol use problems. The overall goal is to inform clinical decision-making to implement effective interventions that will improve prevention, care, and outcomes across the continuum of HIV and alcohol problem severity and patterns of alcohol use

The PhRMA Foundation is accepting applications for its Health Outcomes program. Health outcomes research spans a broad spectrum of issues related to healthcare delivery, from studies evaluating the effectiveness of a pharmaceutical intervention to the impact of reimbursement policies on outcomes of care. It also ranges from the development of tools to perform patient-based assessments to analyses of the ways in which results of outcomes research are disseminated to providers or consumers to encourage behavior change.

This Small Research Grant (R03) will support important and innovative projects focused on basic science approaches to elucidate neurodegenerative mechanisms/pathways of Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD). Proposed projects should ultimately aim to improve the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and/or care for individuals with AD/ADRD. The program seeks (i) to facilitate the next generation of researchers in the United States to pursue research and academic careers in neuroscience, AD/ADRD, and healthy brain aging and (ii) to stimulate established researchers who are not currently doing AD/ADRD research to perform pilot studies toward developing new, innovative AD/ADRD research programs that leverage and build upon their existing expertise. This notice announces the opportunity to apply for funding under the Ryan White HIV/AIDS (RWHAP) Program Part A Planning Council and Planning Body Technical Assistance (TA) Cooperative Agreement. The goal of this cooperative agreement is to provide comprehensive technical assistance to RWHAP Part A Planning Councils and Planning Bodies (Planning Councils/Bodies) to enable them to enhance their abilities to successfully meet legislative responsibilities. In an effort to meet goals and legislative responsibilities, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) will engage an organization with national reach to provide Planning Council- and transitional grant area (TGA) Planning Body-related technical assistance to recipients, jurisdictional leadership, and Planning Councils/Bodies support staff. Comprehensive site visits conducted by the HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB) Division of Metropolitan HIV/AIDS Programs (DMHAP) for each of the 52 RWHAP Part A jurisdictions have identified a critical need for an ongoing, comprehensive technical assistance mechanism for Part A Planning Councils/Bodies. This technical assistance and support will enable them to enhance their abilities to successfully meet legislative requirements, strengthen their role in providing essential engagement of people with HIV, and increase the involvement of prevention and care and treatment providers in the RWHAP Part A planning process. The recipient of this cooperative agreement will offer a full range of technical assistance delivered through both in-person and virtual methods, including but not limited to creating and updating resource guidance tools.

Once established, type 1 diabetes (T1D) requires daily insulin administration and episodes of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia are common. As a result, patients with T1D without adequate control may suffer devastating acute complications such as life-threatening hypoglycemia and ketoacidosis and long term complications including accelerated cardiac and peripheral vascular diseases, nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, amputation and premature death. Studies such as the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) and the UK Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) have shown that long term microvascular and macrovascular complications can be reduced through tight blood glucose control. However, the increased risk of hypoglycemia that is associated with tight control and the limitations of current glucose control technologies make tight control difficult to achieve. Thus, there is a need for tools to help more people with T1D to safely achieve and sustain tight blood glucose control and reduce burden of care.

This NOFO has two components, A and B. Component A (Natural Experiment Research Centers): To support a 5-year multi-center network of independent research centers to evaluate innovative, health system and non-health system-based natural experimental approaches to alter the diabetogenic characteristics of US communities. Applicants will select one of the following two tracks: Track 1 Evaluation of population-level programs or policies that affect population-level risk factors for type 2 diabetes (such as diet or physical activity, as well as other health behaviors; glucose; prediabetes), or Track 2 Evaluation of programs or policies aimed at improving care and management of diabetes, and the risk for diabetes complications. Component B (Coordinating Center): To fund a Coordinating Center (CC) to provide organizational, logistic and communication support to enhance the efficiency, productivity, and public health impact of the Natural Experiments research centers that are funded as part of Component A.

The opioid epidemic has disrupted public safety and significantly increased the burden on state and local law enforcement, substance abuse treatment delivery systems, mental health systems, child welfare and foster care, and the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems. Through this program, OJJDP is helping states and communities develop a data-driven, coordinated response to opioid abuse-related challenges that impact youth and community safety. Funding under this program may be used to support programs and services to youth and families impacted by both opioids and other substance use disorders.

The research projects will focus on Health Promotion: * Strategies for habit change: prevention of obesity and promotion of physical activity. * Patient education. * Physical injury assessment. * Health management: clinical quality and safety. In this call, special attention will be given to the projects which, while taking into account the previous topic lines, incorporate aspects related to COVID-19 such as: reducing infections, self-care and the culture of self-protection, relationship between previous health status (lifestyle) and morbimortality, COVID-19 and mental health, etc.
