The End TB Strategy envisions a world free of tuberculosis (TB)-zero deaths, disease and suffering due to TB by 2035. This requires reducing the global TB incidence from >1250 cases per million people to <100 cases per million people within the next two decades. Each year, an estimated 10 million people develop TB disease, and an estimated 1.6 million TB people die from TB - the leading cause of death from any infectious disease. In 2017, 90% of all estimated new TB cases were adults (15 years of age or older), and 9% were persons living with HIV (PLHIV) with 72% living in Africa. Despite being preventable and treatable, large gaps in detection and treatment of TB cases remain; of the estimated 10 million new TB cases in 2017, only 6.4 million TB cases were officially reported.

DoD Gulf War Illness, Research Advancement Award - 0 views

  •
Applications must articulate how results will lead to a clinical impact for Veterans with GWI even if a clinical impact is not an immediate outcome. All applications must focus on features of GWI and Veterans of the 1990-1991 Gulf War affected by GWI. It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator (PI) to clearly and explicitly articulate the project's potential impact on GWI. The types of activities supported include, but are not limited to, expansion of limited data on candidate markers, mechanistic targets; therapeutics and interventions; validation and advanced research on druggable mechanistic targets, identification and development of leading compounds, and collection of preclinical data for repurposing an existing approved drug or for new Investigational New Drug (IND) application submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Applicants proposing to test FDA-approved drugs in animal models for efficacy must explain why preclinical testing is required prior to clinical pilot trials in humans

DoD Gulf War Illness, New Investigator Award - 0 views

  •
The FY19 GWIRP New Investigator Award supports investigators new to the field of GWI research at different stages of career development. This award enables such investigators to compete for funding separately from investigators with established programs of GWI research. The New Investigator Award aligns to the Discovery or Qualification phase as outlined in Section II.A.2. Previous experience in GWI research is allowed, but not required. However, applications naming a Principal Investigator (PI) with limited background in GWI research are strongly encouraged to include collaboration with investigators who are experienced in GWI research and/or possess other relevant expertise to strengthen the application. The application should describe how the collaboration(s) will augment the PI's ability to address the research question.

DoD Peer Reviewed Alzheimer's, Innovations in Care and Support Award - 0 views

  •
The intent of the FY19 PRARP InCASA is to support innovative research that improves the quality of life and care for individuals living with the common symptoms of TBI and/or AD/ADRD and/or their families and care providers, as related to the PRARP's mission (see Section II.A, Program Description). The proposed work should innovatively challenge existing research paradigms or exhibit high levels of creativity within the contexts of the PRARP's mission and vision. This can include innovations and research for symptom reduction (e.g., cognitive, behavioral, function, mood), resiliency factors, increasing or maintaining independence, and support for families and care providers. The research innovations for the FY19 PRARP InCASA are expected to benefit the military, Veteran, and civilian communities. FY19 PRARP InCASA applications should be Innovation- and Impact-based.

Public Health and Health Systems Partnerships to Increase Colorectal Cancer Screening i... - 0 views

  •
This announcement provides funds to recipients to partner with health systems and individual primary care clinics to implement evidence-based interventions (EBIs) to increase colorectal cancer (CRC) screening uptake among applicant defined populations age 50-75 years that have CRC screening rates lower than the national, regional, or local rate. Recipients will: 1) establish partnerships with health systems and primary care clinics to implement at least two of four EBIs recommended in The Community Guide (client reminders; provider reminders, reduction of structural barriers, and provider assessment and feedback); 2) establish partnerships with organizations that provide expertise to support the implementation of EBIs in primary care clinics; 3) conduct a formal assessment of each clinics capacity/readiness to implement EBIs; 4) utilize the clinic assessment to select appropriate EBIs to implement; 5) provide resources to partner clinics to provide and support completion of follow-up colonoscopies after a positive or abnormal screening test; and 6) collect and submit high-quality clinic-level data including baseline and annual CRC screening rates.

Opioid Affected Youth Initiative | Department of Justice - 0 views

  •
The opioid epidemic has disrupted public safety and significantly increased the burden on state and local law enforcement, substance abuse treatment delivery systems, mental health systems, child welfare and foster care, and the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems. Through this program, OJJDP is helping states and communities develop a data-driven, coordinated response to opioid abuse-related challenges that impact youth and community safety. Funding under this program may be used to support programs and services to youth and families impacted by both opioids and other substance use disorders.

Reducing Public Exposure to Indoor Pollutants | EPA - 0 views

  •
EPA's Office of Air and Radiation announces competitive funding announcements for projects and programs relating to air quality, transportation, climate change, indoor air and other related topics. EPA is soliciting applications from eligible entities to conduct demonstration, technical assistance, training, education, and/or outreach projects that seek to reduce exposure to indoor air contaminants by advancing national policy and systems-level initiatives. Applications should clearly articulate a plan to produce results that have implications and/or benefits on a national level. This RFA is not intended to fund small-scale local projects. Applications should also address one or more of the following EPA Indoor Air Program priority areas: Radon, Indoor Environmental Asthma Triggers, or Comprehensive Indoor Air Risk Reduction. EPA will not consider any applications under this RFA that are exclusively designed to conduct scientific research. However, applications may include research components as a foundation for demonstration, technical assistance, training, education, and/or outreach projects. NOT-MD-21-007: Notice of Intent to Publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement for Resea... - 0 views

  •
The goal of the NOSI is to develop strategies and interventions to address vaccine hesitancy, uptake, and implementation among populations who experience health disparities in the US. The NOSI will solicit research to help understand and address misinformation, distrust, and hesitancy regarding vaccines (e.g., SARS-CoV-2, human papilloma virus, pneumococcal, influenza, hepatitis B, and herpes zoster) that target adults in the United States and territories, especially among populations who are at increased risk for morbidity and mortality due to long-standing systemic health and social inequities and chronic medical conditions. The program will solicit community-engaged research to: 1) evaluate innovative interventions (e.g., expand reach, access) to facilitate vaccination uptake in clinical and community contexts; and 2) address the barriers to increasing reach, access, and uptake of vaccinations among health disparity populations.
