The Environmental Studies Program (ESP) of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is offering a cooperative agreement to complete a demonstration project on Integrating DNA Profiles, Genomics and Photo-Identification data. The objective of this study is to improve the current computation capabilities for integrating DNA profiles with photo-identification records for assessment and long-term monitoring of marine mammal populations, to provide a standardized database architecture, with associated tools for primary analyses and visualization of individual genetic and genomic profiles as well as spatial-temporal records. An important component of this objective is to develop "community standards" that can be applied across multiple species, as well as multiple investigators, and that promotes data sharing and archiving. Continuation of the development of previously funded work on GeneGIS towards the development of a Web-based, collaborative collection could form a model for similar developments with other species of interest to BOEM. Section 1346 of the OCS Lands Act (OCSLA) mandates the conduct of environmental and socioeconomic studies needed for the assessment and management of environmental impacts on the human, marine, and coastal environments which may be affected by oil and gas or other mineral development. OCSLA Section 1345 authorizes the use of cooperative agreements with affected States to meet the requirements of OCSLA, including sharing of information, joint utilization of available expertise, and formation of joint monitoring arrangements to carry out applicable Federal and State laws, regulations, and stipulations relevant to outer continental shelf operations both onshore and offshore. From rangeland management to protection of cultural resources; fire suppression to energy development; trails and travel management to National Conservation Lands, the BLM values public involvement and a collaborative environment. When we facilitate activities and uses of the public lands, they are designed, permitted, and monitored with the goal of retaining or returning the land to a healthy condition once the use or activity ends. Our objective is to provide opportunities for youth (ages 16-30 years of age) to engage in BLM cultural and natural resource conservation-related projects and to increase public awareness and appreciation of those resources and recreational resource values found on public lands. These projects will provide participants with a mix of work experience, education, training, community involvement and support services, as well as the opportunity to develop citizenship values and skills through service to their community and the United States. As the young men and women gain experience in natural and cultural resource management, they will also develop an appreciation for public lands and learn about conservation-related career fields

For the purpose of conducing project and programs that strengthen and revitalize communities; provide self-esteem, educational enhancements, and employment opportunities through meaningful work experiences for youth and adults; and conserve, develop and enhance natural resources.

National Public Lands Day. This agreement will allow NEEF to coordinate activities and efforts of NPS as part of National Public Lands Day. NPS will benefit from work that will be carried out by volunteers throughout America at the various national park sites that NPS nominates into the program. National Public Lands Day has been implemented over the years by NPS, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and other federal agencies that are charged with protecting, restoring and/or managing America's natural resource base. This project will build upon a wildlife conservation partnership established between 6 ⿿sister parks⿝ and other reserves in Arizona and Sonora and Baja California, Mexico that share similar ecological communities and resources. Montane springs occur in all the parks but their hydrology and biological value are poorly understood. We will seek to better understand the dynamics, groundwater connections, and threats to springs, while engaging with our international partners to address critical conservation issues through workshops, field work, and water chemistry analysis.

The U.S. Department of State Bureau of East Asia Pacific Affairs (EAP) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for a series of small environmental awards to support local and regional small-scale environmental projects in eligible countries in the Pacific Islands region, via the Regional Environmental Office in Suva, at $24,999 or less per award. Since FY 2007, EAP and the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) have worked together to award and administer small environmental grants in the EAP region. These awards are funded through EAP regional foreign assistance funds, and managed by the OES Regional Environment, Science, Technology, and Health (ESTH) Officer for the Pacific Island states posted to Suva.Projects should address one or more of the following environmental areas of focus:* Food security: agriculture and/or fisheries* Sustainable economic development* Adaptation to changing environmental conditions, e.g., coastal management* Waste management, including marine litter* Air quality* Maintaining biodiversity and healthy ecosystems * Creation and/or management of marine protected areas * Environment or health-related education (particularly for underserved groups)* Capacity building for scientific research on environmental issues* Deployment of new technology for application to environmental issuesProjects may propose activities targeted through this solicitation in the following countries: Fiji; Kiribati; Marshall Islands; the Federated States of Micronesia; Nauru; Palau; Samoa; Solomon Islands; Tonga; Tuvalu; or Vanuatu.Projects

This cooperative partnership will allow the BLM and the recipient to more efficiently and with greater cost effectiveness, make their individual contributions in science-based monitoring and management of air resources and exchange data through a joint work effort. The recipient is committed to outreach and service to the citizens of Wyoming. The independent nature of recipient will enable honest and transparent engagement with citizens concerned with air quality impacts. Collected data will directly relate to informational needs related to the CD-C Record of Decision or other airshed management issues that the BLM must address. If this program is supported, it will enable the recipient to perform fundamental education and outreach activities. Outreach objectives are a core part of the program and ensure that the recipientâ¿¿s research is open to all and not just for research or regulatory purposes. This is important as it is designed to include the public and their need for independent and relevant information.

Design and implement stream restoration measures to restore these streams to their natural state. These measures could include installing erosion control measures, re-grading and replanting native and non-invasive species to restore the natural shallow water habitat and slow the flow of water through the stream. Specifically, the work shall create shallow non-tidal wetland habitat which uses native non-invasive plant species to reduce further erosion and a decrease in water quality. Native plantings shall primarily be used to establish erosion controls due to ground disturbance that will be inherent within this project.

Projects must seek to preserve and protect outdoor places where we all live, work and play. Projects should be innovative and creative. Projects should have clear goals and measurable objectives. Projects that introduce new audiences to the outdoors through responsible outdoor participation will receive special consideration. Project leads must be able to share program successes through social media, interact with KEEN social networks, share high-resolution photos and create an impact report upon project completion. Grants from $2500 - $10,000 awarded to U.S. nonprofit organizations or equivalents outside of the U.S.

The Sustainable Environments Program seeks to create just and sustainable communities in four ways: Sustainable Transportation Networks & Equitable Development Patterns We support clean, affordable, equitable, high-quality and efficient transportation and land use development that better connects critical services, jobs, schools, housing and other regional destinations. Urban Water Management We support efforts to capture storm water and slowly release it into the existing network of drains, pipes and sewers, or reuse it where it falls to cultivate natural green spaces. Regional Food Supply We support ways to make it easier to get local, sustainably produced food from our farms to the markets closest to where it's grown, and to better connect food producers and consumers. We seek organizations that: -Promote meaningful collaborations and an integrated approach to infrastructure solutions (i.e., ways in which transportation, energy, water, and food systems can be combined); -Focus on infrastructure decisions that better meet the needs of historically underserved communities including low-income communities and people of color; -Promote long-term solutions and leverage strategic infrastructure investments; -Highlight, especially through communications, the multiple benefits of next generation infrastructure.

Wildlife Acoustics' mission is to support efforts in conservation and environmental stewardship. We want to enable those involved in animal biology, research and conservation to do their best work easily and quickly. To that end, Wildlife Acoustics has established a grant program to support bioacoustics research efforts from chiropteran, avian, terrestrial, amphibious and marine wildlife, to everything else in between.

The Japanese American Confinement Sites Grant Program provides financial assistance to organizations and entities working to preserve historic Japanese American confinement sites and their history, including: private nonprofit organizations; educational institutions; state, local, and tribal governments; and other public entities, for the preservation and interpretation of U.S. confinement sites where Japanese Americans were detained during World War II. The authorizing legislation for the Japanese American Confinement Sites Grant Program identifies up to $38 million for the entire life of the grant program for projects to identify, research, evaluate, interpret, protect, restore, repair, and acquire historic confinement sites in order that present and future generations may learn and gain inspiration from these sites and that these sites will demonstrate the Nationâ¿¿s commitment to equal justice under the law (Public Law 109-441, 120 Stat. 3288; as amended by Public Law 111-88). Projects funded through the Japanese American Confinement Sites Grant Program must benefit one or more historic Japanese American confinement sites. The term historic confinement sites is defined as the ten War Relocation Authority sites (Gila River, Granada, Heart Mountain, Jerome, Manzanar, Minidoka, Poston, Rohwer, Topaz, and Tule Lake), as well as other historically significant locations, as determined by the Secretary of the Interior, where Japanese Americans were detained during World War II.

Background: The BLM routinely requires assistance to implement prescribed fire projects. These projects are utilized to reduce accumulations of hazardous fuels, improve wildlife habitat, and reduce the negative effects of wildfire. The BLM would like to continue to utilize a qualified recipient for prescribed fire projects on BLM managed lands. Due to time constraints and rules and regulations inherent to prescribed fire operations, the recipient must be red carded at the appropriate levels for the assigned projects, and should be a close, available resource. The goal is to develop a good working relationship and understanding of the roles and responsibilities required to implement and manage prescribed fire operations. Objectives: Select parcels of BLM, Montana lands have been identified as candidates for fuels reduction treatments. The objective is to effectively and efficiently treat these parcels in accordance with BLMs policy and standards and the National Fire Plan. Public Benefit: Reduce accumulations of natural and activity fuels on BLM managed lands across Montana as determined by the NEPA process. The projects will efficiently reduce the risk to the public and natural resources from wildland fire.

The goal of the NFWF Northern Rockies: Great Migrations and Crucial Corridors Program is to work with local partners to ensure a future for the impressive wildlife of the region by helping to secure landscape connectivity, improving wildlife habitats on both public and private lands, and ensuring safe passage for migratory species across highways and other man-made barriers.

The Organic Farming Research Foundation is dedicated to fostering the widespread adoption and improvement of organic farming systems in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. To that end, OFRF provides funding for research on organic farming and food systems and the dissemination of these research results to organic farmers and the greater agricultural and research communities. One-year grants of up to $20,000 are available for research projects related to any production, social, economic, or policy-related topic of concern to organic farmers and/or ranchers. Priority areas include soil health, innovative weed control, management of emerging insect and disease issues, and livestock health. Projects must involve farmers or ranchers in project design and implementation and must take place on certified organic land, ideally on a working organic farm or ranch. Applicants should articulate how the proposed research project will foster the improvement or adoption of organic farming systems, as well as ways in which organic farmers or ranchers can use the proposed results in their operations. Research projects must include strong education and outreach components and contain measurable objectives.

The Fellowship Program expects to award at least three new Ph.D. Fellowships in 2018 to students who are interested in careers related to marine ecosystem and population dynamics, with a focus on modeling and managing systems of living marine resources. The emphasis will be on the development and implementation of quantitative methods for assessing marine ecosystems, for assessing the status of fish, invertebrate, and other targeted species stocks and for assessing the status of marine mammals, seabirds, and other protected species. Fellows will work on thesis problems of public interest and relevance to National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) under the guidance of NMFS mentors at participating NMFS Science Centers or Offices. The NMFS-Sea Grant Fellowship in Population and Ecosystem Dynamics meets NOAA's Healthy Oceans goal of "Marine fisheries, habitats, biodiversity sustained with healthy and productive ecosystems".

The Fusion Energy Sciences (FES) of the Office of Science (SC), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), herby announces its interest in receiving applications to carry out experimental research in magnetic fusion energy sciences on long-pulse overseas stellarator facilities, namely Wendelstein 7-X (Germany) and the Large Helical Device (LHD - Japan). The research should be related to the planning, execution, and analysis of experiments concerning the topical areas described below. The FES Burning Plasma Science: Long Pulse portfolio supports U.S. researchers who work in collaboration with foreign scientists to explore critical science and technology issues at the frontiers of magnetic fusion research. These collaborations take advantage of the unique capabilities of the most advanced overseas research facilities.

Given the time and resources spent on the Phase I and II studies and the upgraded and newly installed stations, as well as the importance of the UB Network for consumptive use estimates in the Upper Colorado River Basin, the parties want to ensure the stations will continue to be operated and maintained to an agreed level of standards, and that all collected data will be made available to any and all users in a consistent format. This scope of work addresses the operation and maintenance, data quality control and assurance, and serving of the resulting data for the 2 new climate stations within the state of New Mexico in the Colorado River basin. Tasks 1. The contractor will operate and maintain the 2 new stations according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards appropriate for operation and maintenance of this network (ASCE-EWRI 2005). Teleconnections with the home laboratory will allow daily examination of the sensor outputs. When a significant problem is identified, a site visit will be arranged, to correct the issue within seven (7) days. a. The contractor will provide documentation describing their maintenance procedures and logs of past maintenance upon request. 2. The contractor will ensure each station's sensors are calibrated or checked against standards annually according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards appropriate for calibration (ASCE-EWRI 2005) a. The Coastal Program is a voluntary, incentive-based program that provides technical and financial assistance to coastal communities and landowners to restore and protect fish and wildlife habitat on public and private lands. The Coastal Program is not a conventional grants program, in that it does not solicit projects through a request for proposals. Instead project work plans are developed strategically, in coordination with partners, and with substantial involvement from Service field staff. Projects must advance our mission, promote biological diversity, and be based upon sound scientific biological principles. The Coastal Program - Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funding is available to coastal areas within the U.S. portion of the Great Lakes basin which includes parts of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.

NIST is soliciting applications from eligible colleges and universities in the U.S. and its territories, nominating undergraduate students to participate in the SURF Program. The SURF Program will provide research opportunities for undergraduate students to work with NIST scientists and engineers, to expose the students to cutting-edge research and promote the pursuit of graduate degrees in science and engineering.
