     This funding opportunity announcement (FOA), issued by the Office of the Director (OD), National Institutes of Health (NIH), invites applications from entities/institutions in Institutional Development Award (IDeA)-eligible States to participate as the Data Coordination and Operations Center (DCOC) in the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) IDeA States Pediatric Clinical Trials Network (ISPCTN). The DCOC will support the Clinical Sites of the ISPCTN to conduct multicenter clinical trials research, assuring the participation of children living in rural or underserved communities located in IDeA states, and build pediatric research capacity for IDeA states to support the conduct of clinical trials of relevance to rural or underserved children in IDeA states. The DCOC and the Clinical Sites, together, will form the ISPCTN.    The ISPCTN is the intervention part of the ECHO program and supports its overall mission: to enhance the health of children for generations to come. The award will support clinical trial pediatric research in the 5 focus areas of the ECHO program: pre-, peri-, and postnatal outcomes; obesity; upper and lower airways; neurodevelopment; and positive health.

Analyzing existing data sets may provide researchers an efficient and cost-effective method for answering critical research questions. Researchers may conduct secondary analyses of survey, program evaluation, or administrative data. Data sets from primary research and evaluation may also be candidates for secondary analyses.     The purpose of this forecasted funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to provide competitive grant funds for up to 5 years for projects authorized by the Child and Family Services Improvement and Innovation Act (Pub. L. 112-34). This Act includes a targeted grants program (section 437(f)) that directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to reserve funds for regional partnership grants (RPGs) to improve the well-being of children affected by substance abuse. These targeted grants will be awarded to regional partnerships that provide, through interagency collaboration and integration of programs and services, activities and services that are designed to increase the well-being of, improve permanency outcomes for, and enhance the safety of children who are in out-of-home placements or are at risk of entering out-of-home placements as a result of a parent's or caretaker's substance abuse.

    The Fund recognizes that young investigators may find it difficult to remain in pediatric research because of a lack of funding. Therefore, the purpose of this program is to encourage the development of medical research in child health by awarding small grants to new researchers, helping them gain a foothold in this important area. The goal is to fund applicants who will go on to be independent investigators. The Fund will make up to 30 awards total with two funding cycles (15 awards each). The Fund is open to a wide variety of research topics. We do not focus on a particular ​disease, but all our funded projects deal directly with children's health. In the Early Career Award program, the Fund is particularly interested in applicants that show great potential to impact that field of children's health through medical research. Both an applicant's aptitude and inclination toward research are considered. The quality of the mentor and the mentoring relationship are also considered to be important predictors of success.

    The American Psychological Association is accepting applications for its Elizabeth Munsterberg Koppitz Fellowship program, which is designed to nurture excellent young scholars for careers in areas of psychology, such as child-clinical, pediatric, school, educational and developmental psychopathology. Through the program, one-year grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded to support graduate research projects and scholarships in child psychology. To be eligible, applicants must have completed doctoral candidacy at the time of application (documentation required) and demonstrated research competence and area commitment. In addition, IRB approval must be received from their host institution before funding can be awarded if human participants are involved.
